Villa overview - owner's description

Traditional three bedroom villa with private terrace, private pool and barbecue. Located in the village of Soller in a very picturesque location.

Sóller is an attractive town on Mallorca's north-west Coast.
Situated some 3 Km. inland from its port, 'Port de Sóller', the town lies in a large, fertile, bowl-shaped valley. Sóller shares its valley with the village of Fornalutx and the hamlet of Biniaraix, the combined population is around 13,000, and the valley is famous for its orange groves and terraces of ancient olive trees. The village of Deià is just down the coast.
Sóller and the port are about half an hour's drive from Palma Airport, and have good connections with railway, tram and bus services. The valley and its surrounding mountain range, the 'Serra de Tramuntana', a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a favourite destination for people from all over the world, especially those who enjoy walking, nature, ecotourism, swimming or simply a peaceful rest away from the hustle and bustle of the better-known tourist traps.
The local language is Mallorcan, a dialect of Catalan, and everyone speaks fluent Spanish as well. It is not uncommon for people to speak at least a little English and/or French. It is polite to say 'Bon dia' (Good day in Mallorcan) to people you meet away from crowded areas.
The 'Serra de Tramuntana' is a much loved destination for walkers, but please be careful. The main risks are fire and the weather. A local business that offers guided walks and bicycle rides is Tramuntana Tours

Forest fires have caused the loss of some of the most beautiful and ecologically important forested areas, fire, in the mountains, is prohibited - please respect this.

Several people, some of them quite experienced walkers, have lost their lives in the mountains. The most common cause is sudden changes in the weather. The island of Mallorca may be relatively small, but the mountains are as high (and as treacherous) as any in the UK.
Having said this, there is no reason not to walk in the mountains, just a real need to be well prepared, to be aware of the weather, and to stick to the paths. It is also a good idea to carry a mobile phone and a whistle.

We loved our time in Soller and would consider returning to this town and maybe this villa. It was a very cute looking house, well situated near the town with a pool. Very close proximity to the tram stop which takes you to Port de Soller. A 15 minute walk to the beautiful town centre of Soller (try to catch the market there on Wednesdays). The whole area was charming and felt very "Spanish", not like resorts overrun by English tourists or catering for only for English tourists. Beautiful views around the villa of the mountains. Whilst we were there we didn't really experience any insects (mosquitoes/ants etc.). Nice breeze some days from the mountains. There was a lovely healthy food shop selling veg/fruit and other essentials very close by, as well as a small supermarket and a bakery. We found no need to do the usual Carrefour 'big shop' we've needed at other Villas. For this reason, the closeness of the town and the tram service to the port/beach, we found we didn't really need the hire car we had. Although we'd planned to visit Deia and other local places, we found the driving too much of a challenge (narrow roads edged by high walls, hair-pin beds etc.) in the large people carrier we had. The main roads from Palma and to Port de Soller were good.

The villa doesn't have aircon but this didn't pose such a big problem as we've experienced in other parts of Spain. However, more portable electric fans are needed to service all of the bedrooms, the ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms wasn't quite sufficient. Pool terrace quite small but sufficient - however, needed more sunbeds/seating for a family of 6. Currently only 4 sunbeds. Wouldn't say it was suitable for young children, there are flights of concrete steps outside to the pool and to the third bedroom (which is on the 1st floor but via an exterior set of steps). The outside eating space was lovely, and we spent a lot of time there. Kitchen was a little dated (typically spanish), the equipment was ok, good fruit juicer/coffee percolator. However, it lacked multiple shelves in the oven for baking and baking dishes (we bought disposable ones from the local pound shop). Comfortable living room with plenty of seating for 6, we managed to change the language on the TV so we could watch a few English programmes - but a DVD player would have been useful. The bathroom was new and well equipped, lovely big shower. Good facilities for washing and drying clothes. Overall a good villa and very good value for money.

The villa is set in a picturesque location in Majorca with astonishing views and a quaint square a short walk away. Most impressive, was the owners accommodation.

We were overall satisfied with the renting.

However we would like to add a few coments:
1) Hot water was missing both at wc and in kitchen
2) The drain in the shower (garden) was more or less blocked
3) Ants were frequent in bathroom and sleeping room
4) Please observe as well that the sunbeds were quite old, and som of the sewings might need a review.
5)The most disturbing factor was the burning and especially the smoke coming from the citrus plantation next to the chicken breeder. It is difficult to understand the legacy of this kind of burning of dry grass in city area - and especially during a dry season.

For any questions or alike please dont hesitate to contact me for explanations or any questions.
Yours sincerely

as first time villa renters we were not dissapointed. The villa had a good sized pool and was 50 yards from the tramline to port soller. All the facilities were fine and the village was excellent. The views from the villa were superb and surrounded by orange and lemon trees no neighbours overlooking was a bonus as well. The only non positive comments i could make are A/C would be good at night for sleeping but open the shutters and you get a decent breeze and possibly some english speaking channels on the tv otherwise great holiday. Will definitely be doing this again.

From Cambridge

I endorse the above review the villa was very comfortable and the surrounding mountains were beautiful. The swimming pool was lovely, it seems to be salted rather than chlorinated which was fine.I would recommend it to a friend. Three suggestions -there are one way roads in Soller so get a good map from the tourist information we found the directions slightly confusing. The best milk is from the Tabac shop on La Lune Street. As Mallorca is very dry in peak season you might need ant spray as and when but it is not a problem.
