Villa overview - owner's description

The Simmons Raffo Villa is situated amongst pomegranate and olive groves close to the village of Valverde, an easy, twenty minute drive south by car from Alicante airport and only 5km from the beach

The villa is situated on a private road close to the village of Valverde, an easy, twenty minute drive south by car or taxi from Alicante airport and only ten minutes from the nearest beach at the sea side town of Santa Pola - the minute we walked through the villa gates, we fell in love with the sense of peace and spaciousness of both the house and the garden and everyone who has visited it so far, has felt the same way.

One of the things that attracted us to this part of the Costa Blanca is that visitors to the area are mainly Spanish - more paella than fish and chips and the coast offers miles of beautiful, sandy beaches, yet both Elche and Alicante are close enough for an evening in the city.

The villa has been renovated over the last thirteen years to provide a very high standard of accomodation and is just as perfect for a couple as it is for a family. With garden walks, a boule court, plenty of space for just being quiet and excellent space for al fresco dining, it will surprise and entrance you from the moment that you arrive.

We now have a brand new 40" Smart TV with FreeSat (BBC and Channel 4 HD channels), Wireless Broadband Internet connectivity, DVD player (and a big pile of DVD's), iPhone or iPod player and loads of music CD's for your pleasure

It is perfectly possible to spend a week in the villa and not feel bored - sunbathing by the large, private pool, relaxing in the shade under the palm trees in the garden, or, as the sun sets, walking the gravel paths through the orange, lemon and pomegranate groves that surround the villa.

However, if you like to go out, the surrounding endless sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca, the old towns in Alicante and Elche, the Moors and Christian Fiestas with their colour and passion and the warmth of a summers evening in a bar or restaurant are not to be missed.

We hope that you too will enjoy your stay and feel the benefit of a well deserved holiday because of the care and attention that we have brought to our villa.

The villa is built on two levels - downstairs has just been completely redecorated and is completely open plan with airy, cool places to escape the noon-day sun and a lovely large lounge with bar and wood burning stove (for winter visitors)

Upstairs, there are two double and two twin air conditioned bedrooms and two bathrooms including a gorgeous ensuite master bedroom with french doors opening onto the large balcony overlooking our large garden and from which you can see the surrounding countryside and mountains and get a peak at the sea.

The pool and gardens
The large, secluded, 10 metre pool has a tiled surround, providing adequate space for sunbathing, lunching or sitting in the shade with a cool drink at the end of a fabulous day..

The huge garden is stunning this year with a grassed area, many palm trees, two barbecue areas and plenty of places to relax, hide away, read a book, commune with nature or socialize with your friends and family. And don't forget lunch in the pergola, specially placed to offer table and chairs in a shady, cool spot.

It is perfectly possible to spend a week in the villa and not feel bored - sunbathing by the large pool, relaxing in the shade under the palm trees in the garden, or, as the sun sets, walking the gravel paths through the orange, lemon and pomegranate groves close by. And yet it is just fifteen minutes from some wonderful sandy beaches with perfectly safe swimming and great beach cafes.

More than perfect!
Beautiful house and a spectacular and huge garden.
We had a terrific time!
:-)

From Stoke-on-trent, United Kingdom Aug 2008

The whole family (2 adults and 5 children aged 16-2) all had a fabulous time at the villa which suited them perfectly. The pool was big enough for everyone to swim together and the water was unbelievably warm. The villa was well stocked with everything that we needed and the large garden was great.
We were not aware of dogs barking at night which some previous guests had mentionned. We did not feel that we were isolated, but the villa is well off the tourist route. We didnt even see another Brit when we went into the towns of Santa Pola and Elche. The owners Michael and Julia were very helpful, phoning us before we arrived to give us some advice.
We would strongly recommend the villa to anyone who wants to have a great place to stay in Spain. It is ideal for a family such as ours.

From Stockport, United Kingdom Jul 2007

Great place to stay, we had four parents and four kids, we stayed first week in October and pool area was very quite, wed had the place to ourself. 12 minute walk to bus stop and local resturants. Only concern was that the cost of eating out was quite high.
Great for golf and swimming.
we all had a great time.

The Villa was lovely, comfortable with a lovely kitchen, the pool very important as the beaches in Santa Pola are not great, the car is needed as there is not immediate amenities in the vicinity.
It was a very welcomed touch to have a basket with goodies at our arrival as on the Sunday finding a supermarket open was a bit of a task.
I would recommend the villa!

This was the first time I had ever been on a villa holiday and it exceeded my expectations.

As a mum with a toddler, I did not want a long onward journey from the airport before arriving at the accommodation and this villa was perfect for that. It was only a 20 min drive from Alicante airport which was ideal for us.

The villa was relatively easy to find. We had a sat nav, but Michael and Julias directions were spot on. If you havent driven in Spain before, the technique for crossing the carriageway takes a bit of getting used to! I would advise swotting up on the Spanish driving etiquette before you go. I agree with other reviews that you will need a car at this villa as there is nothing that you could walk to safely nearby. As this villa does give you a taste of authentic Spain, be prepared to brush up on your Spanish and/or take a phrase book!

The inside of the villa is spacious and comfortable. The decor is rustic with a traditional Spanish feel. The welcome pack on arrival was a really nice touch too. The villa is extremely well equipped and just about everything you could need is there, you might just have to hunt around a little for it! Incase you get a rainy day, the villa is well stocked with books, dvds and board games. The villa is maintained and monitored regularly by the site manager, pool attendant and gardener.

The pool was a great size although it does get quite deep quite quickly, so I had to keep quite a close eye on my toddler. The gardens are a real strength of the villa. Massively disproportionate to the inside space, a lot of care and attention has clearly gone into the grounds, providing peace and tranquillity in a beautiful backdro p, just what is needed when you are trying to escape the madding crowd. We fired up the barbecue many times and enjoyed alfresco dining every day, a luxury not afforded often living in the UK!

We stayed local and if we went into town, it was into Santa Pola. The beaches tend to get busy quickly during the day (we went in high season), but we went in for a meal one evening and that was fantastic. We ate at the Porto Bella Restaurant overlooking the boats in the marina which was a fantastic backdro p. Restaurants tend to open quite late compared to here, but I was pleasantly surprised how welcome children are. Walking along the seafront of an evening was lovely, the place had a very family-friendly feel.

Other reviews have referred to noise. There were a few times where dogs barked and you could hear the animals and loudspeaker in the nearby safari park, but to me it was negligible. The main culprit of noise seemed to be the insects (maybe crickets?!) that lived in the trees!

Michael and Julia (the owners of the villa) will get in touch with you before you go with lots of useful information about the villa and the local area. This is really helpful if you arent familiar with the Santa Pola/Elche area.

The guest book at the villa itself reveals the many groups of people that have not only enjoyed their stay at the villa but that have returned several times. I am already regretting not booking a two week stay!

I would recommend this villa to anyone .

"Would highly recommend to everyone" A beautiful property set in a peaceful location, what more could we want. We didnt want for anything during our stay apparent from food (although the welcome basket kept us going) and with the supermarket only a short drive away this was not a stress. I stayed with my husband and 1 year old and also my parents, there was ample space for us all. There is always a part of the outside terrace in the shade and in the sun so it suited us all. We enjoyed walking through the garden and our little girl enjoyed smelling the oranges and lemons. We eat our dinners in different locations outside as all areas were lit and felt safe and cosy. The local village is lovely and the shop has a bakery and butcher if you didnt want to drive into Santa Pola. We loved Santa Pola and enjoyed the restaurants and beaches, it was very clean and just had a good atmosphere about it. We will defiantly be looking to stay again in the near future and would recommend to anyone. "Beautiful Villa in Great Location" Not a stereotypical Spanish new-build villa. Classy authentic villa with lovely large gardens in a great location walking distance from the Safari Zoo. I would recommend this to anyone looking for five star accommodation in a beautiful setting. "Authentically Spanish, comfortable and roomy villa with stunning gardens and gorgeous pool" There were 6 of us and the villa met our needs really well. The gardens, fantastic pool and the house afforded us all plenty of space to be together or separate according to what we felt like doing. The villa is in traditional finca style, cool and roomy with a superb kitchen and lovely open plan dining and sitting areas. Bedrooms are comfortable with lovely views from the huge balcony of the master bedroom toward the sea. Just 10 minutes drive from the villa Santa Pola is a lively town with a working harbour and some fantastic bars and restaurants. There was a festival while we were there and we were treated to wonderful Spanish street food, fireworks and the extraordinary pageants that go on into the early hours. Some of our party were beach fiends and spent most of their time at Gran Alcant, one of several glorious beaches about 20 minutes drive from the villa. We enjoyed day trips to Alicante (check out the wonderful contemporary art museum), the amazing Palmery at Elche and the historic castles in the area before returning home to barbecue freshly caught dorada from the Santa Pola fish market. There is so much to see and do locally but also the villa is so peaceful this is a perfect place to gather together and simply relax. We all had a great time, I highly recommend it!

It was more than adequate for our two families - eight adults in total. We were delighted to receive a welcome basket which contained enough food to provide our first meal (bread, olives, wine etc) and this meant that we could have a quick swim before setting off to the local supermarket for provisions. We found that the shop in Valverde catered for most of our culinary needs (the bikes were well used for this purpose). We all loved the pool which was warm and clean. There were ample sunbeds and picnic areas in the substantial grounds. It was also great to have English TV for the duration of the Olympics. It was fun to explore the area (you would not guess that you are only 20 minutes from an airport). We found some great beaches and towns. This is not a tourist area though, in the main, and some knowledge of the Spanish language is vital in my opinion. The restaurants in the old town of Alicante were excellent as were the two in Valverde. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday market in Santa Pola. I would recommend speaking with Michael or Julia if you are considering renting this villa. They are passionate about the place and are genuinely interested in their guests enjoying it as much as they do. 26th August 2012 “Perfect in every way” When we first looked for a holiday home in this area we wanted a quiet location away from the mainstream villa complexes and touristy beach bars etc. This villa is in a perfect location, 15/20 mins from picking up the car at Alicante airport, 10 mins from Santa Pola town/harbour (not an "all day english breakfast restaurant" to be seen) but in a rural quiet area that you would think was miles from anywhere. The outside of the property is a major selling point, well matured gardens, great for sitting under the palm trees in the heat of the day, the seperate pool area is well laid out with ample seating and sunbeds, two brick built BBQs, two sitting areas for eating and a garage to keep the car cool. There is everything you need for spending full days at the villa, who needs a beach! The villa itself is roomy, clean and comfortable well fitted out out, (and the kids loved the wifi, kept them quiet) the double doors in the main bedroom lead out to the large balcony which gives great views over the garden and an excellent place to sit in the early morning sunshine. We have stayed in villas in many locations around Europe and the States, this property is certainly at the top of the list. 24th July 2012

4th January 2010“What a wonderful holiday yet again – this time over Christmas and New Year. Perfect in every way and really not that cold – the best of all on the heating side has to be the log burning fire – magic! The heat from it can be too much. Not wishing to sound too repetitive, but this villa will always hold a place in our hearts – even after America and a ‘modern, luxurious villa’. The answer lies in its location and grounds – you close the driveway gates and it’s a world all of your own. Totally private and safe. We just love this place!!”Julian Fisher

5th September 2009“Going home today and not looking forward to that after staying in this wonderful villa. The villa was beautiful and like home from home – we look forward to next year. Thank you for a wonderful time at your villa”Mo

26th September“Great food, great location and most of all – great company. Amongst many highlights were the sweetest figs from the garden that we have ever tasted, some fab wine and a great trip to Aqualandia. We’ll definitely be back”Emma and Spencer

27th June 2009“A week of total bliss! This has been the perfect holiday – between 34 and 38 C all week, sun, a beautiful castle of a villa and the most gorgeous garden! Being a keen gardener myself, I really loved the various plants, trees and flowers – most of them not found in Norway. We all loved the swimming pool, especially our two boys who could stay in the water all day. Thank you ever so much for this perfect holiday – we have loved every minute”Anne and Per Arne

5th October 2008“It’s like coming home – this is our fourth visit. Peace and serenity – pool and sun, food and relaxation. We love it all. Some great things have been added and done since our last visit – the new drive, the new kitchen and the new bathroom. The pool is as welcoming as ever and we rarely left its side. Toasted and mellow, it is with regret and sorrow that we wend our way home today”The Fishers

15th August 2008“We have had a truly fabulous time doing very little other than enjoying this exclusive bit of paradise for two fantastic weeks. Wonderful place, garden pool and surroundings. Chilled and relaxed with barbecues, bike rides, swimming, Cluedo, chess, figs and grapes, Bob Dylan, Tracey Chapman. Bliss”Mandy, Simon

7th July 2008“Thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful Spanish home – so many lovely aspects – the tranquil, cool, early mornings sitting in the garden, with the honeysuckle arch and oleander in view, the waving palm trees, particularly the distant one like a peacocks tail, the refreshing, warm swims, the constant birdsong, butterflies, sunshine and shadows – it was so special to spend this special time with the dearest ones on earth to us – laughter, discussion, debate and frivolity. Thank you for a very lovely time”Chambers of Essex

Lovely villa with excellent pool and facilities. Not too "posh" which suited us down to the ground. The only negative comment I can say is that the double beds were a bit small and very short! Villa is near to towns/village and beaches while at the same time relatively secluded. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return at the dro p of a hat.

We are very satisfied with our stay in you Villa! Two families had a great and relaxing time for 14 days. The next time we make it 3 weeks. We think you are a bit moderate in describing your villa on the Internet. Its much more outstanding than we thought it would be. Usually you are disappointed after seeing the pictures ....but we were really surprised, what a nice place! And the fact that it was so near my sisters home in Elche meant a great deal for us. My sisters son works at Rio Safari and went by after job . He also gave us free charge at Rio Safari and gave the children special treatment there. Touching the animals and so on. 4 of us was stunged by whasps, it's a good thing that you have left antihistamine cream in the villa. We broke one white wine glass and one ordinary glass but we didn't find something simular. Sorry about that. In stead we left an extra bottle of wine and a much better wine opener, hope that's ok.We are talking about renting your villa next year. In case, we'll write to you again. We have a lot of pictures from our stay and send a few with this mail.Per from Norway

Our stay at the villa was very pleasant. The villa was spacious and offered everything we needed. We really enjoyed the location as well, it was nice to go to the beach in Santa Pola and we were amazed by Elx which is a very beautiful city. We had a very relaxing vacation and our kids miss the pool a lot. Attached is a picture all of us (except from the one who’s taking the picture) in Terra MiticaInga from Iceland

We have owned and been renting our villa for ten years. Every year we invest significantly to improve and this year we have created an en-suite in the master bedroom with great new wardrobes and added TV to already existing DVD player. We have also opened up the garden and added new furniture. Why not come and see for yourself? Michael and Julia
