Villa overview - owner's description

Traditional Majorcan two bedroom villa with a large terrace with private pool, barbecue and parking. Located in the beautiful small town of Porto Petro.

We feel that this lovely harbour side fishing village is maybe one of Mallorca’s best kept secrets. Less than an hour’s drive from Palma Airport and neighbouring the sophisticated and cosmopolitan resort of Cala D’Or, Porto Petro has retained its small town feel and the contrast of fishing boats now bobbing alongside some of the more opulent motor boats and yachts only adds to its appeal..
Bordering the harbour side, authentic Mallorquin and seafood restaurants spread their tables out towards the harbour in easy and understated manner. Pine covered hillsides climb out of the bay with the houses and apartments of a largely local population hidden away amongst them.
Over the years, this little town with its harbour side restaurants and two lovely small beaches has absorbed an increase in tourism, without succumbing to it totally. It is also a stopping place on the route between Cala d’Or and Cala Mandrago and the little train that plies its way between the two stops in the town – to the greater convenience of those staying in the port who would rather not take the 30 mins walk to this beautiful bay.
Naturally, the train also makes for an easy way of hopping into Cala d’Or, which for those with teenagers, offers the promise of a little livelier entertainment whilst still remaining more relaxed than other better known resorts.
Cala Mandrago Natural Park, 5 mins away by car extends inland from two large bays, divided by a rocky promentary with pleasant coastal path between the two. Each has golden sand beaches with foot paths disappearing amongst the pine trees bordering the beach. Water birds such as coot, redshank and black-necked grebe nest on the area.
Passers-by are often totally unaware that Porto Petro has two lovely small sandy Calas of its own, and although there is now a sizeable select hotel on the outskirts, the beaches remain remarkably uncrowded.
There is a scuba diving centre in the town and a glass bottom boat makes a relaxing trip along the coast on a regular basis. Vall d’Or Golf Club is only 15 mins drive away.

Porto Petro is a small resort just South of the more well known resort of Cala D'Or on the Southeast coast of Mallorca. Porto Petro was originally a fishing village, but it is gaining popularity among tourists because of its lovely harbor, beaches and proximity to the Mondrago Natural Park. Hotels in Porto Petro are located near the beaches - Calo des Homos Morts and Calo de sa Torre and there are a some hotels just outside the resort towards Mondrago around Cala Barca.
Activities in Porto Petro

Cruises: You can catch a boat trip along the amazing coast of south east Mallorca. The Glass Bottom boats cruise to the idylic harbour of Cala Figuera

Mini train to Mondrago: There is mini train connection to the nature park of Cala Mondrago, which is a great place to hike in beautiful landscape and relax on the beast beaches of Mallorca. Cala Mondrago is a popular attraction in Mallorca and if you're staying in Porti Petro we recommend you to visit Cala Mondrago.

Fantastic property! Very comfortable beds, great clean pool. Very quiet countryside & pleasant surroundings. Super local area. The owner is very helpful & responds promptly when contacted. All in all a wonderful two week experience.

Absolutely fantastic – couldn’t fault it! We certainly hope to stay at Sullastre Verd again and Porto Petro is a beautiful village, don’t want to say too much about that though, want to keep it a secret!

We thought the villa was excellent value for money, it met all our expectations. It was very private, if we hadn’t left the villa we wouldn’t have seen anyone all week – except for the owner when he had to open the villa for us, because we had locked the keys inside – he came straight away.

I would certainly recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet, peaceful holiday away from the rabble. As my brother-in-law said “I didn’t think places like this still existed”. Brilliant!

From Epalinges

Sullastre Verd is situated in a quiet corner of Mallorca near to several very good sandy beaches (like Playa Mondrago) and good supermarkets in Cala Dor. The huge covered veranda makes a pleasant living area and the pool is big enough to swim and to have fun (the switch for the pool lights is in the house in the little room between the two small bedrooms. This is also where the electricity trip-switch is when you need to re-set it.
The villa is very isolated (great for privacy & skinny dipping) and at dusk you can watch the bats flying around and listen to the owls calling (“Eeek” not “Twit-a-woo”). Rabbits hop around most of the day in the large grounds - barren stony fields are the norm in Mallorca – grass is very rare and only really seen on the golf courses. Mallorcans in that areas have a passion for hunting so do expect to hear quite a lot of shotgun fire early in the morning (and lots of scared pigeons hiding in the trees). There are metal bars on every window which can be initially off-putting but does mean that you can leave the windows wide open when you are out and at night.
Ok, the bad side… the beds are TERRIBLE !! We loved the villa and the pool but we will not go back unless they have put in reasonable beds. The garden furniture is a bit better but overall the villa is sadly let down by not having comfortable furniture to sit or sleep during your holiday. Some of the electrical appliances are also a bit scary, just unplug and put away the worst of the bedside lights etc. For that price I would also like to have seen air conditioning, the villa is hot at night in summer we left the fans on all night in every room to try to cool down.
To finish on a high note, yes we have a great couple of weeks there is a second hand book shop in Palma (“the trading place”), swimming in the pool, making sand castles on the beach and watching the octopus & fish in the warm Mediterranean seas.

From Uk

We have just returned from a lovely week at this villa 1st week Sept 09. It is in a great location - 15 mins walk from PP, very peaceful and private. The pool was great a good size and very clean. The villa was spotless and well equiped.

Negatives - the beds all need replacing, very uncomfortable and noisy!!!! The sofa ended up being the best place to sleep.

Would be helpful if there was some information for new arrivals, ie places to visit, map of area etc It would also have been nice if there had been a few essentials left ie dishwasher tablets etc

Overall it was a great holiday and we would go back if there were new beds!!!!!

Property lovely and peaceful and good location with everything we needed - may be a change of towels and bedding would have been nice over the 2 wks but we managed - would use this property again." Extra information

Porto Petro is located within the resort of Cala dOr and is made up of hotels and tourist apartments. Since the 15th century there was a trading port here, which was used for exporting Santanví stone and importing wheat. There was even a customs office to control maritime trade, but at the end of the 19th century its trading function fell by the wayside and it was reduced to a fishing port. It is now a colourful port and is home to the Reial Club Nàutic de Porto Petro (Royal Sailing Club) most of the boats here are pleasure craft and this is the departure point for boat trips along the coast to the Cabrera Natural Park. Construction of the first buildings here started at the beginning of the 19th century and in 1959 the tourist transformation started with the building of the Hotel Nereida,
