Villa overview - owner's description

Detached Cortijo (Villa) with Private Pool, Gardens and BBQ Terrace, With its Natural Setting, Tijo Rosa is ideal as a Retreat or for Families with Children..

Tijo Rosa is a detached 19th century cortijo, sympathetically renovated in 2004 to retain it's original charm. Set in it's own large garden offering a high degree of privacy with 360 degree views. The cortijo is located on a mountainside in a quiet rural area, yet only a 20 minute drive to the nearest beach and the large town of Motril. Whilst relaxing in your private pool the view is across the valley to the Mediterranean in the distance. the property is located 2.7 kms along an unsurfaced road, most guests use a normal saloon car. The 220 volt electrics are powered by solar panels making it ideal for phone chargers, netbooks etc but unsuitable for high-powered appliances, like hairdryers. The friendly English speaking owners live out of sight nearby and are on hand in case of problems. located on a mountainside with a view looking down the valley to the Mediterranean in the distance, 11km\20 minutes to Motril with all amenities, 18km\30 minutes to Salobrena where you will find beaches, bars, restaurants, Granada and the Alhambra Palace 1.5 hours. Ideal for relaxing, walking and birdwatching. The property is situated midway between the airports of Malaga, Almeria and Granada..

Couple from London, United Kingdom Jul 2016

We stayed here for a week in July 2016. It was brilliant. The best thing is that there's a feeling of total seclusion: although there are one or two neighbours (including Nick the owner, who met us just outside Motril to show us the way for the last 15 mins), you can't see or hear them because of the position of the house, so it feels as if you have the whole valley to yourself. There are olive trees and cactus plants around the pool and the whole thing is beautiful. It was clearly built by someone with a good eye for design.

The house has lots of character and feels traditional with wooden beams and Spanish tiles. It was very clean and everything worked fine. There's all the kitchen stuff you need, and if you're wondering what to get at the supermarket, basic store cupboard stuff is already there (salt, oil, washing up liquid, herbs etc). It's definitely worth going to the supermarket before you arrive, because you might not want to drive down the bumpy track again. We managed it ok in a very small car but it's a bit hair-raising in parts (especially if you happen to be pregnant). If you want to do lots of day trips (we didn't) it's probably the kind of track you can get used to.

The only drawback at all was the flies. There were thousands of them, and sometimes they were so bad they stopped us from eating outside, which was a shame. The house was spotlessly clean, so they must be attracted to something else in the valley. There were some fly traps set, but we would recommend bringing all the fly deterrents you can think of. The Dia supermarket on the edge of town doesn't stock outdoor deterrents. They're not the biting kind of flies, but they are really annoying, especially when they're all over your face, and we had to cover ourselves in super-strength DEET while sunbathing.

We would definitely go back there though. Just armed with more fly deterrent.

Couple from Glenferness, Nairn. Scotland, United Kingdom Jun 2016

This property is literally in the middle of no where.
After the drive up the gravel track you are overlooking a long valley right down to the sea.
Nick is a great host, there if you need him but leaves you alone to enjoy the peace and quiet if not. He was totally accommodating when we had to change things whilst there. Scooby was a great guard dog too, there to make sure no one stole the BBQ.
The wildlife, I mean birds and animals type were great to see. Walks in the hills were breath taking.
We will be back very soon!

Family from Manchester, United Kingdom May 2015

We stayed in Tijo Rosa for 10 days at the start of June as a family of 2 adults, 2 children and a baby. We were really looking forward to our holiday and were not disappointed. Nick (the Owner) met us at the agreed meeting place and took us to the villa. At first the track to the villa seems treacherous but you quickly get used to it and it gives a real sense of being off the beaten track (literally). The villa itself is charming. It has two good sized bedrooms and due to its traditional construction stays quite cool in the heat. Despite being off the grid there is ample power from the solar cells for most needs and the fridge is gas powered. The WiFi in the villa was excellent meaning we could stay in touch with home without incurring roaming charges. The surroundings of the villa are beautiful. There are hardly any other buildings in sight and nights sat out with a bottle of Spanish wine under the stars were idyllic. Our family likes privacy and tranquillity so Tijo Rosa was perfect. The nature around the villa kept the children entertained for ages.
The surrounding area offers shops including large supermarkets within a short distance, lovely beaches along the coast and fantastic churros in Motril.

We had a lovely family holiday and were sorry to leave. If you love the idea of a secluded, traditional Spanish villa in a beautiful location this villa is highly recommended.
