6 out of 7 people recommend staying here
Villa Casa Helena, is in my opinion the 'perfect retreat' but also not a million miles away from anything you would need. The villa itself is very well equipped with all the basic essentials you need for a holiday. The owners have thought of just about everything from swimming towels to a lemon squeezer for the fresh lemons on the tree in the garden! The pool and BBQ area are superb and had endless use during our 10 day stay. I would recommend a car, only really because walking to and from the restaurant (quite hilly) in 35 degrees is a little extreme! The nearby towns of Pego and Denia have everything you need to stock up and also Denia has a lovely port and excellent bars and restaurants.
Communication from Laura - the owner, both before and after our stay was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Casa Helena, the villa and the surrounding gardens are beautiful and kept to perfection, coupled with a view to die for I would say you could not fault it!
Thank you! :-)
Our party of 2 adults and 2 children aged 3 and 9. Pros: - The unique selling point of Casa Helena is the west facing views across Monte Pego. This view is very pleasant and made up a little for the lack of mod cons such as internet, microwave, dishwasher, fully working TV and air con. There is a good supply of towels, sheets and other basics and I was reliably informed that the washing machine is good.(although see second last paragraph apparently not!). The property is in good clean condition. There are a good number of novels at the villa to keep you occupied. The outside BBQ is excellent and was well used. Monte Pego itself is basically a modern built estate on the side of a small mountain. There are two local restaurants and a bar. But a car is essential even for a trip to the nearest bar as the walk is steep. The area is however very quiet &ndash almost eerie as only about a third of the properties are simultaneously occupied. This, we thought, was a plus but may put others off. Cons:- We were initially disappointed by the lack of an information pack at Casa Helena. Trying to find our feet was a chore. Our main problem was the lack of internet which was originally advertised with the villa and was a key requirement on our shortlist. To cut a long story short the logging on to neighbouring wifi without permission does not constitute having internet (the neighbours have since changed their password). We were not happy about this as you expect to get what you pay for and the owners attitude was that we should enjoy the views rather than worrying about connecting to the &lsquonet. Or purchase daily internet ourselves...Thanks for the advice but it would be more useful if the villa was accurately described in the first place. At the time of writing this review it is noted that internet facilities have been removed from the description. All of the beds are quite frankly awful. My partner slept with the sun lounger cushions over her bed for 12 days. Smaller issues were: The TV would not work properly. Both my partner and I speak passible Spanish so local TV would have been useful. The telly was however capable of showing DVDs. The cooker &ndash only three rings worked and it constantly tripped the electric. Only a bottle of Rioja could turn the noise from one of the bedroom ceiling fans off&hellip Showers &ndash none of the shower head holders hold the showerheads properly meaning you have to shower one handed for the most part. Outside - there were a lot of wasps about during the day &ndash probably nests nearby. And at night (inevitably) a lot of mozzies too so we weren&rsquot able to enjoy the evenings as much as we wanted to. There was an issue with the sewer we were told on arrival and a bad smell in the villa was apparent when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction. The pool area is essential however it is over-looked from a higher property to the rear (east) and from other neighbouring properties to the north and south. I would advise potential renters to check out Google Earth images if privacy is important. It did sadly mean that my skinny dipping had to be confined to night times only! In addition to the mis-selling of the villa, when we returned to the UK we discovered that the owner had submitted an insurance claim for a &ldquobroken washing machine door&rdquo. We would ordinarily dispute this claim. However it is no skin off our noses because we paid a non-refundable damage waiver...but anyone who rents out Casa Helena and does not pay a damage waiver would do well to photograph everything before they leave. Overall: We have been holidaying in Spain for many years and feel that this villa is over-priced when comparing it to other similar properties. We do not feel that its main selling point (the view) justifies the rate given the lack of mod cons. Unfortunately the villa is not the oasis which we hoped it would be although it is adequate and the view is a definite feature. We will be returning to the Denia area again as the region offers a lot for the whole family but, sadly, not to Casa Helena.
Our family of two adults and two children aged 13 and 14 had a wonderful time at Casa Helena. The house was pretty much as advertised and communications with the owner and local agent very pleasant and helpful. Yes there were a few small utiltiy issues whilst we were there but nothing that was a major problem or wasnt sorted as quickly as it could have been. We found the house very comfortable, and unlike another reviewer encountered less insects than previous visits to Monte Pego. In fact we had more bites on arriving home, than the whole time in Spain.
Having no telly or internet was a plus for us far better things to do with our time, like enjoying the lovely pool, nearby beaches and generally being busy doing nothing.
The local restaurant (Cafe Residential) is in easy walking distance (just round the corner), and the Cova bar is a bit further but still a reachable walk. Free wifi is available there for those who need it.
All in all an excellent time and we would certainly return.
We have just returned from a lovely 2 week Holiday in Monte Pego. Before the Holiday , the owner ,Laura, was really helpful answering all the questions we had about amenities, directions and the like.
The Villa itself was lovely and clean, with high ceilings to keep the rooms cool with fans in all the bedrooms for those warm evenings... as we went during high summer the temperature was really hot!.
The pool was really good which we used every as well as the patio and BBQ areas.. Fantastic views and sunsets each evening.
Great Value for money.. close to really nice Denia , which is a must visit.
Thanks to Laura ( and Ken next door) for help during the stay...
Whole family loved it...Would go again! :)
Casa Helena is a beautiful villa in a stunning location. Close to the beaches but far from the crowds to provide perfect relaxation. The views are super overlooking the mountains to the West. The villa is clean and well equipped with a lovely pool. The neighbour who looked after the property was extremely helpful and gave us some super recommendations of things to do and see in the area. We particularly enjoyed the Christian vs Moors festival in Oliva and a visit to the castle at Xativa as well as driving up the historic valley running from Pego.
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday with our three children and would defintely consider returning.
