Casa Moreana, Monte Pego, Alicante

Casa Moreana is located on Monte Pego- a development for luxurious living in a scenic beauty spot on the Costa Blanca, overlooking the coast and nearby beaches. But car hire is essential for all holidays

Getting there could not be easier. Regular flights from British, Irish and continental airports go to Alicante and Valencia and Murcia airport an extra 45 minutes drive away.
The villa has a stunning relaxing, unobstructed view over a valley and near by hills/mountains. Its patio area gets the sun all day long, and there is a covered “veranda”, with table and seating for 6, for shelter should the sun become too intense.

Situated 95 km from both Alicante Airport and Valencia Airport it can be reached in under an hour from either airport using the Auto via (AP7). The villa, pool and surrounds are COMPLETELY PRIVATE and the only noise you regularly here is that of crickets.

There is a STUNNING LOCAL BEACH (4 minutes away) which is safe, wide and 18 KM long and never crowded. It is a childrens paradise, indeed it is paradise and has always maintained its BLUE FLAG status. There is a multitude of beach sports and activities, and the facilities are excellent. The Red Cross Life Guards, are on duty most of the year most of the time. Every water activity you can think of from para-gliding to scuba diving to surfing is located locally, and all takes place is a deep blue sea with a salty taste of vitality. I challenge anyone to find better beaches than those located within a few minutes of Casa Moreana. Indeed to be fair the entire coast has excellent beach facilities, including a few naturist beaches. The nearest (authorisied) to Casa Moreana being 15 minutes away.

Casa Moreana is away from the madding crowd but within a few minutes drive of all the action. The atmosphere in the area is laid back and relaxing. Indeed the air is so pure that for the first few nights you may sleep like a log. The night sky itself shows the heavens in all their glory as only light industry is located in the area and pollution is minimal. Yet despite this idyllic environment the road network is excellent, (even quite minor roads) and getting around is a pleasure and a stress free experience.

To quote the comments book “What a beautiful area, the quietness and beauty of the mountains and the sea” and another “Beautiful scenery in a quiet setting. Plenty to do and see within one hours driving.” In point of fact the scenery is breathtaking, and unspoilt. A flat nature reserve, (with boating and fishing), contrasting with mountains, valleys, seas, orange groves and rice paddy fields. Cap de la Nao, Altea, Guadalest, Moiraira, Penyal d’Ifac, are all for different reasons worth a visit and within easy reach. There is a narrow gauge railway from Denia to Alicante, which in a travel review in the Irish Times was rated as the best journey in Europe to take. I can vouch for the fact that the views from the railway are unrivaled in Europe, and that includes my own country Ireland.

FIESTAS are frequent in towns in the area and you would be unlucky not to have one nearby during your stay. The fiesta of The Three Kings in Xabia on 6th January and the Easter Passion ceremonies in Pego are not to be missed. Also of great interest are the Moors and Christian, Festivities, which often last a day or two in each local town in July and August. This festivity rotates among the towns so that for the entire summer there is a fiesta somewhere. The running of the bulls into the sea in Denia also takes place in summer.

The FISH MARKETS in Xabia, and Denia are worth visiting, you will get fresh fish, just landed- grill it, or barbeque it outside and consume “con un copa vino blanco seco o dos”

Tennis is on site and there are three championship golf courses nearby (15/20 minutes) one of which held the Spanish Open.
GOLF on the Costa Blanca is a 365 day a year experience.

Within the urbanization is a commercial centre with , three EXCELLENT restaurants, two bars, inter-net café, tennis and padel courts, and a children’s play area. The two restaurants serve mouth- watering food and are highly recommended. In July and August a barbecue is held each Friday, in the Resturante Monte Pego, booking is recommended, as is attendance, AT LEAST ONCE.

El Verger, Ondara, and Pego (founded in 1488) are close by, small enough to be intimate, but large enough to have all facilities you might need, video rentals, tapas bars, restaurants, taxi services, laundrettes, excellent hair- dressers, patisseries, and GOOD supermarkets, (in Mercodona Supermarket, Pego the display of fish and seafood is staggering), there are two good bodegas in Ondara even fishing rods and tackle can be bought locally.

There are authentic Spanish villages particularly Pego which has a beautiful square, shaded by trees where the older gather to exchange their news and gossip, and the young strut their stuff for the pleasure of potential suitors. In Pego there are lovely water features and a magnificent church, and a spectacular church of ease, Local Authority buildings and its own soccer team. Pego also has an excellent Health Clinic.

Denia (called after the Roman Goddess Diana (8 minutes away) is a bustling town with a regular population of 41,000 people, which swells to 120,000 in summer. It is a sea- side resort with a fishing port, night- life, historic sites and all the attractions that a Mediterranean town has to offer. Denia was founded, by the Romans and re built as a strong trading port by the Moors. Indeed it was one of the Moors last strongholds in Spain. Its trading history and fortifications are quite impressive. From Denia one can go on Day trips to the Balearic Islands, jet skiing, deep- sea fishing, glass-bottomed boats and the like. The town has its old quarter, (for the more retiring) to its disco scene (generally well behaved). Balmy summer nights, beautiful pier walks, fine tree lined avenues, first- rate bars and restaurants, to suit all types.

Many authentic attractive villages are within easy reach, and getting off the tourist track is comparatively easy.

Near and in these villages are many beautiful restaurants, which can dish up a delightful gastronomic experience, and generally at a fraction of British or Irish prices. The Gastronomy of the area is renowned, fresh seafood and fish being a great treat. Steaks are also recommended, as is lamb. One restaurant in Ondara is famous locally for its steaks and tapas (booking is usually necessary). The on site Café Residential Swiss is 100 meters away and is a must do experience. The children and indeed the adults will love being spoilt in a setting, with panoramic views over the local countryside and Mediterranean, book early and get an outside table it is well worth the effort. A Swiss Rosti is a treat everyone deserves now and again.

For the new experience adverse individuals you can obtain British/Irish type food, in El Verger, Denia, Ondara and in a multitude of places. There are restaurants to suit and to cater for all budgets and tastes. (The caretaker and brochures in the villa will assist you in this regard).

Local markets are held in El Verger, Pego, Olivia and other nearby towns on a weekly basis. Full details are available in the villa.

Casa Moreana - What to do, Where to Go
Much is written about the superb climate on the Costa Blanca. Generally speaking the summers are slightly cooler and less humid than the Costa del Sol, with the winters drier, less windy and sunnier. The climate is so perfect that the World Health Organisation has proclaimed that the Moriara, Xabia, and Denia peninsula of the Costa Blanca has “One of the most environmentally perfect climates in the world”.
It would take a much bigger web site than at present at my disposal to outline all the things to do when based in Monte Pego. From musical recitals to general relaxing, to flying lessons in Area de San Antonio- the place is awash with activity, but the villa is quiet.
Located nearby are:
· Superb beaches for swimming and water sports, or for relaxing and just sun bathing. Caution with the sun, especially for the first few days, cream off well as de-hydration or sun- burn can spoil a holiday.
· Diving and scuba diving. (There are lots of scuba diving schools for both the experienced and novice). Some can give you international accreditation under the PADI schemes.
· Fishing- both sea and coarse. Fishing is a Spanish pastime and many Spaniards can be seen on the beaches fishing for hours on end all year long.
· Boating. The local town of Pego hires rowing boats on its nature reserve. There are serious boat hire facilities in Denia, Xabia, Moraira, Altea, and other resorts all within 45 minute drive. You can also hire paddle boats and canoes.
· Snorkelling, and scuba diving- there are many schools one of which a previous client recommended. (see
· Surfing. Surf- boards can be hired on the front in Denia.
· Sail Boarding- Sail boards can be hired on the front in Denia.
· Canoeing/Kayaking facilities care available in Denia, Xabia, Calpe, and Moraira.
· Hiking (beautiful secluded mountain tracks). There are recognised routes though farmers do not generally mind you crossing their land. Indeed you can pick the oranges or local fruit as you go. Pego Co-Operative, to which most of the local farmers belong sells produce in Dunnes Stores and in some British stores.
· Biking (cycling is a local pastime). There are designated cycle paths starting from the entrance to the urbanisation.
· Golf (3 championship courses within 15km). The caretaker is a member of the local golfing society and can assist you, he may even play you as a guest of The Pego Golfing Society..
· Crazy golf is located in the near by Bella Vista Club. ·
Paragliding. There is a school in summer, which operates on the local beach. Courses generally have to be pre-booked, as demand would appear to be heavy.
· Go-Karting. There are many tracks ranging from very junior to the best in Spain in Moirara. (The Spanish Champion comes from the region)
· Terra Mitica and Aqualandia theme Parks (45 minutes away).(see A great day out for a family.
· Museums- I recommend going to Guadalest some 45 minutes away. In summer go early to avoid the tour buses, Guadalest attracts a huge amount of visitors. A stronghold in the mountains of the Moors, in its day, it is well worth the visit. Denia Castle is also worth going to, and has fantastic views for those who make it to the top.
· Local caves with stalagmites and stalactites. Used as arms dumps during the Spanish Civil War. 15 minutes away in Benidoleig. The tempature in the caves is constant all the time.
· Fitness Centre- there is one in the Bella Vista Club (short membership available) and another in Ondara both 15 minutes away.
· Petanca In Pego (a sport conducted in the South of Ireland, France and parts of Spain).
Boat trips to see dolphins. The trips leave from the harbour in Denia and go a few times a day.
· River boating, from Pego on the marshlands. The tourist office Pego issue the tickets, which are at a nominal price.
· Quad biking. There are organised trips from Denia and recognized courses under supervision. See Denia Quads.
· Cliff climbing.
· Hunting*

*A licence in some cases has to be obtained from the local authority or the local tourist office. This is a formality in which we will assist you if necessary. A small fee is usually payable to the local authority.

Had a lovely stay at this villa, pool was great with some lovely views and the weather was fantastic. The on-site management team who looked after the property, Steve and Ashley were friendly and welcoming which made our stay all the better. Tried the local Swedish restaurant (only 5 minutes’ walk) and it was excellent (15 euro for a main meal). There is also an onsite patisserie van, owned by a French guy who sells fresh breads and lovely cakes daily. If you thinking of venturing out and about, it’s well worth visiting Javea, which has one of the best kept beaches in this region and is surrounded by fantastic restaurants’. All in all a lovely holiday.

Another superb family holiday at Casa Moreana, with a super location, pool & accommodation. Although it was our 2nd visit, we are still finding great places to visit using here as a peaceful haven to return to - a car is a must but well worth it. Yet again, Caretakers / neighbours Steve & Ashley were excellent hosts and constantly help to make the holiday even more special to match whatever we fancied doing. A perfect, practical & peaceful villa near Pego! Look forward to returning in the future.
Owner reply:

thanks Stuart - you were all over the place like a rash!!let us know when you are coming again and we will sort out a new itinery for your stay.( nice words in the visitors book too)Steve , Ashley and the Kinsella family

The villa was lovely, great views, friendly neighbours, easy access and parking. comunication prior to holiday was excellent, had a really great time!
Owner reply:

Thank you all six of you. I am delighted you had a great time- as you had the recent floods to contend with.We really care for our visitors- we try harder. Mary and I love the villa and it gives us a great kick when we hear that another client has enjoyed their stay in what is one of the nicer corners of the world. You are welcome back any time. Ben Kinsella

Great spot. Secluded but the beach was only a short drive. The private pool is perfect for children learning to swim.
Owner reply:

Blake,Delighted you and your young family enjoyed what is probably one of the best "corners" of the world. We try harder and I was delighted to hear of another who has learned to swim in my pool. Thanks for the 5 out of 5You know you are welcome back anytime.Ben & Mary

Owner reply:

This is a well kept, clean and organized villa. We thought very highly of the services, and found the owner to be extremely friendly and helpful in every way. It was our first excursion to that part of Europe, and found the owner's directions and suggestions to be of great assistance. Our only regrets were to do with the weather. It didn't cooperate while we were there, but of course that didn't reflect upon the owner. I would reccommend this property to anyone, as it is tastefully decorated, clean, and well furnished. As well it is favourably situated, away from hustle and bustle.
Owner reply:

Brian & Rose,We try harder, that is why you thought highly of the services- Mary and I love the area, and the house, it took us three years to find it. Every time you go it gets better. To be of assistance is just part of our deep need to see you the client satisfied. You were very unlucky with the weather apparently the worst for decades- as you rightly point out we can do a lot BUT.We would welcome you back anytime.Ben Kinsella

Stayed Saturday 10 February 2007
We thought the villa was lovely but some pictures would be cheery. Bathrooms ok but no shelves or hooks, shower heads need attention. Comfy bed, lovely settees, efficient kitchen (garlic press please) and wonderful balcony/verandah giving uninterrupted view of the surrounding hills. (Pool to cold to venture in in Feb!!) We loved the area and appreciated the help of Steven and Ashley next door. The weather was unbelievable and there were plenty of places to explore both close at hand and further afield. It was useful having a very good restuarant within walking distance and a wide choice of local places a short drive away. We would definately return, we had a great holiday.
Owner reply:

Brenda,There is a saying in Ireland "the door is always on the latch" or ás Gailge "Céad Mile Failte" meaning you are welcome anytime.I have taken on board ALL your constructive comments and improvements upgrades to these small matters have ALREADY been effected. A Garlic press has been purchased, and will be there for your next visit.Along with the above improvements a new windbreak goes in this week making the villa ABSOLUTLY PRIVATE- for those who need absolute privacy around the pool.Thank you for your constructive comments and hopefully we will see you and your husband in Monte Pego soon.Oh a new video has been ordered as I understand you believe the original does not do the villa justice. I hope you like Ashley's taste in pictures.Hope to see you soon again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Moreana and will definitely be looking to stay there again. The layout of the villa and pool is excellent. The location and the villa's design made us feel safe and secure and Stephen and Ashley, the neighbours who look after the property, were very helpful and friendly. All in all a very enjoyable holiday with the added bonus of glorious sunshine. In March!
Owner reply:

You know the way-anytime you are welcome. Ben Kinsella

We have just returned from a glorious week spent at villa Moreana which exceeded all of our expectations. We receieved a warm welcome by Stephen and Ashley who obviously work very hard to maintain the property to the highest of standards and also gave us good advice on local attractions and amenaties nearby. The pool was well maintained and larger than expected and the veiws are amazing especially at night. There is a safari park 5 mins away and go karting for the kids entertainment nearby, A trip to the waterfalls (Took aprox 20 mins) is a must as the fresh water makes for a refreshing dip in the spanish heat there are also some fabulous beaches nearby. Local supermarkets provide a good selec tion and are about a 5 min drive from the villa but you really get a feel for Spanish life around the town as it is not commercialised at all. We would not have changed a thing about our hoilday and hope to return in the future. Thankyou Steven and Ashley for everything.
Owner reply:

we sent a private e-mail to you are more than welcome to return and we enjoyed your company as neighbours for a week.we do try our best to please everyone and suceed most of the time.see you and yours very soon.hasta luegoSteve, Ashley and the Kinsella family

As a family we found this villa to offer everything you need to cater for all. The air conditioning whilst not essential is an excellent comodity for those humid nights, not all villas have a/c. The location of the villa is perfect for a relaxing break, however close enough to amenities if needed. A car is necessary for a holiday here. We would definately recommend this villa to families.
Owner reply:

Thank you for your kind words. In a competitive environment, your views and comments are appreciated. We try to make Casa Moreana a home from home. It is not by accident that we have everything - we try harder.

Fantastic villa in a lovely location, which allowed us to explore the local areas. All the facilities at the villa were excellent, particularly the pool & the availability of inflatables etc for the children to use. The villa & pool are maticulously kept by Stephen & Ashley (the caretakers) who live next door & who are both extremely friendly & informative which adds to make the holiday even better. We will be returning and would recommend it wholeheartedly as a relaxing & enjoyable holiday for all the family.

thanks Stuart for your responses, we know we will see you next year

Driving directions to property were complicated. House situated on a large housing estate on a mountain side. I would think that a vast majority of the houses are owned br ex-pats from around Europe. Many British, German & French. House was clean and tidy. Pool was not very clean. Water was cloudy with small amounts of algae growing in grout joints. I dont think the pool would have been cleaned if I hadnt said something to the care-taker. Pool is not as secluded as stated. House is on a mountain-side, so the neighbours above can see into the pool area. Very small area for sun-bathing on sunbeds. The house is advertised as being able to sleep 8 people. There is no way that 8 people could sun-bathe on the patio unless they sat in chairs. My party consisted of 4 but there were only 3 useable sunbeds. Walking distance to Swiss restaurant but you definately need transport for all other amenities. Approximately 15 minutes drive to nearest beach.

As much as we try we cannot please all the people but nearly all love my villa and its surroundings.

Ben, We would like to start by thanking you for the wonderful flowers and champagne that you left us. That was very kind and thoughtful of you. The villa was absolutely beautiful, clean and conforting. The view from the terrace was gorgeous and the pool really came in handy on those really hot days. We loved how we were so close to the beaches and shopping centres and there were so many restaurants to choose from. The Cafe Residential is a must to go to. The food there was incredible. Wed also like to thank Stephen and Ashley for being so helpful and welcoming. They were great for giving us directions to the popular attractions. Thanks again for making our honeymoon a fantastic one! We will definitely recommend your villa to our friends and family.
Owner reply:

Thank you, what can I add we do try harder.

We had a great time at Casa Moreana. Lovely location and you can do as little or as much as you want to in the surrounding area. Mr Kinsella was very helpful when we had a problem with our flights! Definately highly recommended1
