Marbella is a lively resort city in the Costa del Sol. This popular party destination is a playground for the rich and famous and the perfect location for a sun-drenched escape in beautiful surroundings. Marbella boasts mild Mediterranean climate, Michelin-starred restaurants, a world-class nightlife, luxury shopping brands and some of the best golf courses Europe. Temperatures in summer rarely go over 30°C, and in winter rarely drop below 12°C. Average sea temperature in summer is at a pleasant 24°C.
Marbella is just 40 minutes from Málaga airport which is less than a 3 hour direct flight from the UK and mainland Europe. Taxis from terminal three are readily available to take you right to your accommodation at costs from 50 Euros . Buses and coaches are also plentiful and considerably cheaper.
Plenty of smaller resort areas between Sitio de Calahonda and Puerto Banus to choose from for a great holiday. If you fancy yourself a night owl and are looking for a rather vibrant holiday destination, with lots of bars and nightclubs, then Marbella it is. Puerto Banus, 10 kilometres west from Marbella, is also quite buzzy. It’s the hub for celebrities worldwide during summer - big yachts, expensive cars and bling. On the other hand, Sitio de Calahonda is a quiet resort with fine sand beaches and several golf courses strewn around it.
With a 27km-long coastline, Marbella boasts 24 different beaches, many of which have received the prestigious Blue Flag Award over the years. From Capobino to San Pedro Alcantara, take your pick and relax! With an abundance of water sports facilities, stretches of golden sand and azure calm waters, Marbella's beaches are a perfect base to chill out, spend time with family, exercise, or party from dusk till dawn. Among the most popular are: Capobino, Nueva Andalucia, Alicate, Puerto Banús, Artola, Fontanilla and Nikki beach. Enjoy the full 5-star Marbella experience and live the life of luxury from one of our spacious villa rentals with private pools.
Marbella is one of the best golf destinations in Europe. With over 10 golf courses in Marbella alone and over 50 along the Costa del Sol, there’s a great variety and choice when it comes to the game of golf. Sotogrande is one of the best golf courses in southern Spain. Located under an hour from Marbella, this 18 hole course stretches its greens across 6700 metres. Marbella Golf Country Club is also an excellent choice. Natural rolling hills of the course make shots tricky and interesting, especially with risky bunkers and water hazards. Of course, you can never go wrong with Guadalmina Golf Club, which less than 20 minutes from Marbella. There are two courses here - north and south. The northern course was opened in 1973 and has a slightly less challenging layout than the southern. Both courses are in brilliant condition, and there is a restaurant and a cafe at the club.
Art lovers might appreciate a visit to Avenida del Mar, exhibiting Dalí's sculptures and temporary art and media. If that's not enough, then get your cultural fix at the Spanish Contemporary Engraving Museum in the Hospital Bazán - the most important museum of its kind and home to the exhibitions of engravings and art works from national artists such as Picasso and Miró. But Marbella still retains a traditional Andalucian charm. In the heart of the historic old quarter lies the famous Plaza de Naranja; otherwise known as Orange Square, set in a beautiful bay with whitewashed houses and orange trees embellishing its ancient streets. The town’s jewel, well worth a visit, is the 16th century Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation that stands out as an exquisite piece of architecture. Step back in time with archaeological sites like the Roman baths of San Pedro, or walk down the 300 steps leading to Casa del Rey Moro fortress and water mine, with the singing birds and lapping water providing a peaceful soundtrack. Cross the road from the Old Town and you’ll find yourself at La Alameda Park. With a large ceramic fountain surrounded by exotic plants and trees, the park is a true oasis of peace, where you can enjoy some shade from the midday sun.
With its exuberant nightlife, Marbella city and the resort are perfect for an upbeat, energetic holiday with friends. Marbella is okay for families as well but some nearby resorts, like Sitio de Calahonda or Estepona, might be a better choice. Apart from beach activities, shopping and occasional visits to fast food joints there aren’t many activities that will keep the kids occupied here. However, Selwo Aventura is an animal park north-east from Estepona. The park has quite the animal collection and they offer walking and vehicle tours of the park which kids find amusing. There is also an excellent water park in Fuengirola called Aquamijas with wave pools, water slides, play area and snack food bars.
If you’re planning on staying in the city and not venturing outside that much, then you should be fine on foot. Marbella city isn’t large and most amenities, including parks and shops, can be found nearby. Taxis and car hire are always an option if you’re planning a trip outside the city, but may cost an arm and a leg. However, CTSA-Portillo transportation company is inexpensive and has regular lines between Malaga and Algeciras. Purchasing a ‘Bonobus’ card is much cheaper than buying single tickets, and minimum recharge for the card is 5 Euros.
Marbella has plenty of places to eat and drink, from cheap fast food joints and upscale restaurants dotted along the Paseo Maritimo boulevard, to the lively port promenade where you can sip your favourite drink at one of the many luxury bars, while watching the world go by. The best restaurant in the city must be Paco Jimenez Restaurant in the old town, excellent food with a cosy atmosphere. It’s tucked away a bit but definitely worth the effort of finding it. Bogart's Tapas Bar & Restaurant in Sitio de Calahonda is inexpensive with cocktails and a great menu that includes various dishes. Breathe Marbella in Puerto Banus is an upmarket all-round venue with outstanding food and drinks, atmosphere and shows.
Let your hair down, mingle and dance the night away, with plenty of clubs, bars and venues to choose from. Most night clubs are concentrated in Puerto Banus and Marbella city, with the most popular being Olivia Valere, midway between Marbella city to Puerto Banus. There is also a great choice of bars. Crystal’s Banus is a premium karaoke bar and an excellent venue with quality drinks. The Claddagh is an Irish bar in Torremolinos with live music entertainment, great food and, most important, beer aplenty.
Since it’s a playground for the rich and famous, no wonder some of the most prestigious fashion stores can be found right here in Marbella. Forget Paris and New York, everything is here - from Louis Vuitton and Gucci to Dior and Versace. There are also some department stores and malls selling everything and anything. El Corte Ingles in Puerto Banus sells everything from haberdashery, men’s and women’s clothes, electrical appliances to jewellery, glasses and newspapers. There are also cafes, fast foods and restaurants. La Canada, north from Marbella city, is similar plus there is a cinema there.
