Villa overview - owner's description
Superb 2 bed, 2 bath, airconditioned, detached villa with heated private pool on the exclusive Polaris World golf resort - La Torre. Great facilities in villa and on resort.
We have put a lot of thought into trying to provide everything you will need for a great holiday
This property is a superb, 2 bed, 2 bath detached villa on the La Torre golf resort, built in 2007. In addition to a terrace and a large rooftop solarium for catching every hour of sunshine, the villa has the added advantage of a 7m x 3m private pool - essential for cooling down in the summer heat or for keeping the children amused! The pool can be heated (at extra cost). The safety fence around the pool offers peace of mind for parents with small children. Sun loungers and pool toys are provided, as is a BBQ and outside furniture on the terrace and rooftop solarium.
Also provided for the use of guests are mountain bikes ( 2 adult and 2 junior - junior bikes suitable for approx. 16 yrs and 10 yrs old) - handy for getting around the resort (although the supermarket, town centre and golf clubhouse are within easy walking distance). You might use the bikes to get to the tennis courts - you will find tennis racquets in the villa which you are welcome to use (4 adult and 1 junior) . If you don't want to pay the airline charges for taking your golf clubs to Spain we also provide 2 full sets of right handed golf clubs. (One gents, one ladies)
Inside the villa all the accommodation is at ground floor level. The main bedroom is a king bedroom with fitted wardrobes and an en-suite shower room (shower, wc, basin/vanity, bidet and heated towel rail).
The second bedroon is a twin room, again with fitted wardrobes. The large main bathroom is right next door, with a shower over the bath, shower screen, wc, bidet, storage unit and heated towel rail.
Also in the lounge you will find an armchair, coffee table, reading lamp, TV unit and shelves full of books and DVDs. A 32’’ LCD TV with Digi-box provides >30 English language channels for English speaking guests – plus a selection of other language channels. A Wii console and a selection of Wii games are also available for your entertainment. A DVD player and a CD player are also provided. The dining table has an extending leaf and can comfortably seat 6 (6 chairs provided!).
A travel cot is provided for babies (please provide own cot bedding). A high chair is also provided.
We have fitted air conditioning in the lounge/dining area and in both bedrooms. The air-conditioning in each room is individually controlled. (Many Spanish villas do not have aircon in bedrooms - beware - you will need it in the summer months.)
Central heating is provided for the cooler months of the year.
The kitchen is fully equipped with oven, hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and a wide range of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pans etc. We have stayed there many times ourselves now and have added to the equipment as we determined what is needed to live comfortably in the villa. You should also find lots of extras that are often missing from self-catering accommodation – including some of the basic supplies that you usually need to dash out to the shop for (like dishwasher tablets, washing tablets, cloths, salt and pepper etc!). You'll also find a cool bag, a cool box, a beach mat and folding chairs for your day at the beach.
Next to the kichen is the utility room, with washing machine, iron, ironing board, clothes airers etc
The lounge/dining room has a vaulted ceiling - giving a great feeling of space.
Please note that bath towels, hand towels, tea towels and bed linen are provided. We do ask that you bring your own swimming towels for use outside please.
There is parking for 1 vehicle on the drive at the front of property and ample space for more parking is available on the road.
The La Torre Golf Resort
La Torre is a superb resort with plenty of facilities.
Golf - The 18 hole golf course with par 68 has the following specifications:
• 5.354 metres of golf trail
• 3 lakes.
• Natural surroundings in harmony with the area.
• Driving range & Putting green.
• Club, Pro-shop.
• Golf School.
(There are plenty of other golf courses in the area to try!)
Tennis - There are two tennis courts on the resort. There is a booking system in place but there is no fee. Tennis racquets and balls can be found in the villa.
There are many large communal pools on La Torre (with accompanying childrens pools). The nearest is less than a 5 minute walk.
In the town centre, a 5 minute walk from the villa, you will find a number of restaurants plus an Irish Pub & the Golf Clubhouse (bar and a pro golf shop)
We’d advise reserving a table in the restaurants during high season – you will find the phone numbers in the info file in our villa. We’ve eaten at the Italian many times and had excellent food each time. Please note that not all the restaurants remain open for the whole year.
The resort is beautifully landscaped and dotted around the resort are children’s play areas.
The supermarket on La Torre resort has a wide range of goods at reasonable prices. (Wine can be particularly cheap!) It is literally a 2 minute walk from the villa.
Internet access and computer terminals are available in the golf clubhouse. Alternatively if you have a laptop etc you can access the internet in the villa via Wi-Fi (free).
Activities available in the surrounding area include diving courses, boat trips on the Mar Menor, yacht charters, windsurfing, jet skiing, canoeing, orienteering, sailing tuition, hiking, sightseeing trips, deep sea fishing, mountain biking, horse riding, rock climbing.
We have learned to sail (dinghies) and windsurf in Murcia - the water is lovely and warm! We have also chartered skippered yachts for an afternoon's sail on the Mar Menor.
If you would like further information please ask.
The surrounding area
Welcome to Murcia - rugged mountains, rolling green fields, golden sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Murcia enjoys an annual average temperature of 20 degrees C and nearly 3000 hours of sunshine. Murcia is a region lapped by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor, a great salt-water sea lagoon, with its salt marshes, ecosystems, islands and unique flora and fauna. The Costa Cálida (the warm coast) is the name given to the 155 miles of coast in the Murcia region, which stretches from the natural salt lagoon of the Mar Menor in the east to the fishing town of Águilas in the west. The two seas offer sparkling clear waters, luxuriously long and sandy beaches, and enchanting little bays. With a variety of Blue Flag beaches to choose from on the Costa Cálida, just 20 minutes from our villa, all you can do is relax!
The Mar Menor Area
This area is known as the market garden of Spain. It is predominantly flat, like a bowl flanked by the mountains of the Sierra de Carrascoy (a protected regional park) and the Calblanque regional park and open to the Mar Menor and Mediterranean sea to the West. At the north end of the Mar Menor is the Salinas regional Park which is a wildlife refuge.
The regional capital - Murcia City, is known as the “Baroque Capital of Spain” for its wealth of fine buildings. It is shopping heaven with many up market shops and department stores. There is a magnificent Cathedral, a beautiful monastery, gardens and parks.
The second city of Murcia, Cartagena, is a port city and has been a port since pre-Roman times. The front is a broad promenade with restaurants and bars overlooking the marina and port. There is a good shopping area here and it starts in the Calle Mayor, a pedestrianised street adjacent to the palace near the front. There are Roman remains scattered through the city including a Roman amphitheatre. Several festivals are held here during the year. The most notable of these is a Roman vs Carthaginian fiesta which re-enacts of the battles that took place here in years gone by.
Caravaca de la Cruz
This is one of the Worlds 5 Holy Cities (including Jerusalem and Rome) and is situated in the heart of the beautiful Murcian countryside. At its centre is the magnificent church that is surrounded by the Knights Templar Fortress. Caravaca is a fascinating place to explore and is just one hour from the coast. It is also famous for its week long wine horse fiesta held in May with events culminating in the racing of horses, with magnificent jeweled mantles, from the fortress to the streets below, an amazing spectacle.
South from Murcia the motorway takes you past the town of Alhama de Murcia with its Moorish castle, Roman spas and beautiful church. Continue south to Totana which again has a beautiful church and an enormous market every Wednesday. Both of these small towns are on the edge of the stunning Sierra Espuna Regional Park - a paradise for walkers with dedicated trails criss-crossing the mountain area which is covered in pine trees. On the southern edge of the Sierra Espuna is the sleepy medieval village of Aledo with its Moorish tower and church on a rocky promontory. Between Aledo and Totana is the La Santa Monastery which has been restored and turned into a hotel. Further south we arrive at Lorca. This is a large town with a lot of history. It has been fought over several times in the wars between the Christians and the Moors. It has an excellent shopping area but is most famous for its large fortress which dominates the town. It is possible to tour the fortress with an English speaking guide. Lorca has a fabulous fiesta at Easter.
Returning to Murcia and taking the motorways inland (westward) we discover the Ricote Valley. This region is famous for its unspoiled scenery with apricot and plum orchards, vineyards, olives, cereal crops and even rice growing in the fields between the mountains. Archena is a small town with large church on the central hill. However it is most famous for its hot springs which have been in use since Roman times. Further inland is Jumilla which is a major wine producing area with its own wine fiesta!
The small town of Mula with its narrow streets is nestled beneath the castle and has some beautiful churches. The Bullas is another village famous for the excellent wine from this region and contains some lovely old buildings. Further west we come to Calasparra which is famous throughout Spain for the rice that is produced nearby (reputed to be the best in Spain). The narrow streets in this small town have been pedestrianised and there are several cafes and restaurants. During September there is a fiesta here where the bulls are run through the streets (as at Pamplona).
On the edge of Calasparra is the Sanctuary, (Santuario de Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza) which is a church and monastery built into the cliff above the Rio Segura. Typical of this area, this beautiful spot is not on the “tourist trail”, neither is the nearby Cenajo Lake where mountains drop into a lake of vivid turquoise colour (comparable to the Canadian Rockies). Westward still, we come across the typical village of Cehegin with its beautiful church dominating the houses below.
The Mar Menor
The Mar Menor is Europe’s largest lagoon and is easy to explore with several villages and towns dotted around its coast.
The Mar Menor is a 130 square km inland sea which is contained by a narrow strip of land (La Manga) which separates it from the Mediterranean Sea. The lagoon is open to the Mediterranean Sea at its tip, but due to it only being 7m at its deepest point, it is much warmer than the Mediterranean – it can be as warm as a warm bath in summertime. This lagoon is ideal for all kinds of water sports and its warm, shallow water make it an ideal place for all the family.
It is surrounded by the resort villages and towns of (from the north) Lo Pagan and Santiago de La Ribera. These two towns have beautiful beaches and there is a promenade of about 4km that links the two resorts. Next is Los Alcazares, the largest of the resort towns (and the closest to La Torre) with extensive beaches of over 4km backed again by a beautiful flat promenade, The smaller villages of Los Urrutias, Los Nietos, Mar de Crystal and Playa Honda are summertime resorts all with good beaches and a small marina at each village.
To the south of the Mar Menor is the World famous La Manga Club - a renowned sports centre with three championship golf courses situated within a world class tourist complex, with a host of recreational activities.
Cabo de Palos, a typical, sleepy Spanish fishing village, is located alongside the most famous cape on the Murcian coast. The lighthouse sits above the village. From here north lies the La Manga Strip, a narrow strip of land that divides the Mar Menor from the Mediterranean Sea.

8 out of 9 people recommend staying here
We spent two very relaxing weeks in this amazing villa. Very helpful key holder met us on arrival to the resort and gave us lots of info about the resort and local area. The villa was very clean both inside and out and was perfectly located for the well stocked supermarket and restaurants. The villa comes with lots of extras including bikes, tennis rackets, golf clubs and lots of inflatables for the pool. The pool was the highlight for our two kids who spent most of their holiday splashing around. Happy kids means happy parents! If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed holiday in a beautiful villa then this is perfect. We are planning to return next year.
The villa was immaculate both inside and out and was superbly situated right at the entrance to the resort with the shop being only about 200 yards away and the hotel, resort centre and club house about another 300-400 yards away. There were also mountain bikes, tennis rackets and golf clubs in the villa for your use. I will certainly be back as this is the third villa I have been to in three golf resorts close by and this is by far the best.
The villa was nice and clean when we arrived, and had lots of tips and advice left around to make our stay more enjoyable.
The kids loved the pool, while we loved eating on the sun terrace each night. The resort is quite big, but as the villa is only around the corner from the supermarket and the bars and restaurants it is ideally placed.
If you have kids and want somewhere nice and quiet to stay that isnt too far from the beach and amenities then i would recommend staying here.
A fantastic villa, clean and modern with lots of little extras given by the owners. Owners and management company went out of their way to help. Italians in town centre lovely and a visit to many restaurants in los Alcazares a must. La Diva is very good. Would definitely recommend this villa to anyone.
myself and family stayed in this villa a couple of weeks ago, the villa is fantastic everything you need to enjoy your holiday is in the villa, we had 3 small children with us and the garden was very secure with a high fence all the way round with a gate, and a safety fence for the private pool, the villa inside is very homely and cosy,we had great communication with the owners who was always happy to answer any questions we had, we were met by andy the keyholder who was very polite and helpfull giving us lots of info about the area and when we arrived at the villa it was spotless clean, we will be recomending this villa to our freinds and family and we will be returning next year
