A truly rural holiday in the hills of the Sierra de Aracena. Great food, stunning scenery, fabulous walking trails, friendly locals and bars. and a beautiful fully equipped village cottage. Just relax
The local area around Aracena is special. The mountains of the Sierra are all around and the pantano or lake adds to the scenery. The countryside is exquisite and for those who love Spain, the special qualities of the area wll not be missed. There are short, medium and long walks, easy, hard and testing walks, but all take you into the Sierras and end with a local tapas! We have walked many Senderos (mostly old mule trails) across the hills, where the black pigs stroll through the oak trees behind the drystone walls and you can reach up and pick the fresh figs.Or if you prefer, take a half or full day horse ride through the mountains, its great fun. In the villages family run bars offer freshly prepared tasty Spanish meals and snacks. In our village there are 7 small bars which serve the best local pork you will have ever tasted as well as home grown salads and vegetarian tapas. So take a flight to Seville from . London Gatwick or Stansted and Dublin, to Faro or Malaga from London, Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, East Midlands or Liverpool or Jerez with Ryanair, and you can enjoy the best of rural Spain in just a few hours.
We love Spain and want to ensure you cannot wait to return.
In July and August we offer the opportunity of having breakfast and dinner in your cottage - traditional fresh Spanish food, with a small choice of dinner 5 days a week. You can even learn how to cook typical Spanish food. Please see further details below
Where to go
Aracena is a small provincial town with the obligatory town square where you can sip coffee or something stronger and watch the world slip by timelessly. There is a superb castle on the top of the hill and the grutas or caves underground. Or take a trip to Seville and you will find you will not have enough time to see the city. The cathedral, the third largest in the world is breathtaking and a ride around the city in a horse drawn cart will take you to the Plaza de Espana and through beautiful gardens in the city centre. Isla Magica is a fun trip for adults and children alike. AND you can shop till you dro p......! Or with your car, take the time to travel the Sierras and find small unspoilt villages where the locals are friendly and the tapas so fresh and tasty.
Where to eat and drink.
July and August – real opportunity to enjoy real Spanish cooking
If you want to relax and forget about cooking and washing up during your stay here in rural Spain, why not take advantage of eating quality Spanish food in your own cottage. In July and August we are offering you the opportunity of inclusive daily Spanish breakfast and evening meals for five nights of a week. Freshly cooked from all fresh ingredients prepared in traditional the Spanish style. The local pork here is amazing and tastes and looks more like good quality beef than the pork you are able to buy in the rest of Europe. Each pig in our region lives wild among the tall cork acorn trees and roots around for the abundant acorns that give them their unique flavour. Or try the famous tortilla made with fresh vegetables and truly free range eggs. Each night you will be offered a small choice of alternative Spanish dishes, served with local bread, free from additives and freshly grown salad.
Solomio in whiskey – a juicy pork fillet marinated in whiskey, garlic and thyme and served on a bed of caramelised apple, accompanied by tomato, onion and oregano salad and Spanish potatoes
Gambas en ajo – fresh large prawns seasoned and cooked in garlic butter, served with fresh green salad and Spanish omelette
Berejenas San Jacobo – A speciality aubergine or eggplant dish cooked with goats cheese and local jamon. (Jamon can be omitted for vegetarians). This dish is particularly tasty with home made tomato salsa and roasted potatoes Spanish style.
All topped off with custard fruit or perhaps Spanish rice pudding
You choose which menu and which days you would like to sit back and have dinner prepared just for you. We can handle most dietary needs, so just let us know in advance what you prefer or perhaps would like to try.
The cost of renting the house and enjoying the catering for any week in July and August is £400 for two people and £470 for three people.
Corteconcepcion has 7 bars and three restaurants as well as two small supermarkets. The food in one of the restaurants is to die for and there is another restaurant on the road to Corteconcepcion that is only open at weekends and is always packed to the gunnells. The region around Aracena is famous for the black jamon which is exported worldwide. Cured and sold in the village you really must try some and you'll never be satisfied with ham slices again.
Aracena has many varied and reasonably priced tapas bars as well as some sensational restaurants for secial occasions.
The choice in Seville is outstanding but we can give you good recommendations.
Outstanding property in an outstanding unspoilt part of Spain. Tremendous hosts who became family friends by the end of the holiday.

Spent an amazing week in this idyllic corner of Spain. Fran and Mike are just the best hosts ever and their little cottage is the most wonderful place to stay. If you want to chill out and slow down the pace of life here is where you need to be. Thanks Fran and Mike for your help and advice, we arrived as strangers and left as friends. Look forward to coming back again soon.

The owners went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible, meeting us on arrival with cold beer/wine and providing some basic groceries and fresh veg from their own garden, as well as excellent advice and information on how best to explore the area. The accommodation is full of character, and is fitted and decorated to a good quality standard. It was spotlessly clean on our arrival. We stayed 3 nights in October 2011, paying just £125 which I considered to be outstanding value for money. It makes a perfect base to explore the local area.

So many good reviews have gone before it is difficult to find something new to add.
I would describe Fran & Mike as the perfect hosts. The property is very comfortable. The food in the area is wonderful, especially the local pork which is a must try. The scenery is outstanding. The weather is warm. There is some splendid wildlife and lovely walks. I guess you could say what more do you want. Clearly not for those who want partying and nightlife. But if you like good, healthy living and the outdoors this is superb.
This is a part of Spain that the tourists seldom see and is described as the real Spain. So different to the vision of crowded beaches and drunken louts. So refreshing to see such contented and friendly people who stick to their traditional values.
If you want to understand Spain this is a good place to be and Fran & Mike will help a lot to increase your understanding.
In summary I had a wonderful time and have already booked to go again.

This was exactly what we were looking for. A chance to discover "real" Spain, not somewhere where everything is the same as at home but the sun shines.
The actual property was larger than it appears in the photos and the quality of the equipment was great. The hosts (Fran and Mike) were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much bother. The Spanish lessons were a big help
The village is great, you will receive a wonderful welcome from the locals, especially if you try to speak Spanish. Walking around the national park you can go through the whole day and only meet one or two people.
If you want nightclubs, John Smiths, Fosters, and a fast pace of life this is not the location for you.

A wonderful property in a wonderful town. The owners were more than hospitable and we really enjoyed the insights into the area which they provided. We look forward to returning to Evaristo Perez someday soon!

Had a great time, the description of the property did not do it justice. The little extras really made it for us, the welcome basket, the dvds, the books and the charming terraced area and BBQ were used almost nightly. Will definitely come again.
Two bicycles available for those who want to explore.
The kitchen is fully equipped and has granite work surfaces. The charming lounge is cool in summer and toasty in the winter with a log burning stove. Outside there is a private terrace with BBQ, sun loungers, table and chairs and has lights for lazy summer evenings when the nights are warm
Less hot in the summer than Seville, it cools nicely at night to allow a good nights sleep.
