2 bedroom Apartment, sleeps 4, 3 min walk to beach

Situated in the East of Almería, which has all the flavours of the Mediterranean Coast. Garrucha was created around a fishing port, where boats fished under the protection of the "Torre de la Garrucha" ("Garrucha Tower") which was located by the sea, next to the "Alfolí" (Salt store), where today we can find the Town Hall. That typical Nasrid building was made with adobe walls; it was probably built as a refuge for the Muslim fishermen when they were attacked by the Christians who came from Lorca (Murcia). This tower was destroyed by the earthquake of 1518.

Being traditionally fishing village, Garrucha was called "the small San Sebastián", the big port for the mines which once had Vice-consuls from ten different countries after the expansion of the shipment of silver, iron and lead in the middle of the 19th century.

Garrucha was the centre of antique historical remains, which go back about 5,000 years. A natural port which supplied several armies, exported esparto grass and marble, and always had a good fish catch. The active Garrucha was attacked by pirates, and reached its golden age under the shelter of such mining wealth, as well as being chosen as the summer residence by those families enriched thanks to the mining industry.

At turn of the 20th century, Garrucha was enjoying a feverish economic and social life: casinos, ballrooms, and tennis club gave to the village the glamour so different from the

Garrucha Now
Garrucha is located between the beaches of the nearby picturesque village of Mojacar and the town of Vera. Running the length of the town is a beautiful palm tree lined promenade with a marble balustrade. The beach below is one of the main features of the town. As well as a fishing port the town boasts a small yacht marina. Every evening the fishing boats make their way back to Garrucha and the daily fish auction, which is held each evening in the port. This can be a colourful and exotic event and is a great favourite with children and adults alike, as shark, swordfish and squid are sold off alongside more familiar fare such as mackerel and sardines. Exploiting this wonderful daily catch a great many restaurants line the promenade, with colourful displays of fish and shellfish, a feast for the eye as well as the palate.

Surrounding Attractions
Car hire is recommended, if you would like to explore the surrounding area and visit the nearby deserted beaches and the lovely mountains to the north of Mojacar. There are many, many places of interest to visit for some really interesting day trips. Granada, for example, with its legendary palaces and gardens, is only two and a half hours drive away.
Almeria in the south east corner of Spain is one of the sunniest areas in the whole country with an average of about 340 days sunshine in the year. The nearest airport is Almeria which is approximately 45 minute drive away. Alicante airport is about two hours and Malaga is about three and a half hours.

This apartment has One double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom. There is a pool and garden area. On the outskirts of Garrucha, only 10 min walk to shops.

The apartment was lovely and exceeded our expectations on all levels. It is a good size, well equipped and ideally situated for the beach and everything else that Garrucha has to offer. The pool and garden are well kept and never busy. The icing on the cake was the excellent support from the couple who take care of the apartment on the owners behalf. We would definitely reccommend this accommodation to others.

The apartment was everthing it claimed to be online. Clean, simple and all we needed for a good holiday. The local beaches are so good that you don't need to go elsewhere (unless you have small children perhaps as the beach shelves rapidly) and the swimming pool was perfect - bigger than I expected and with a shady lawn to take a nap out of the sun. I really liked being able to walk to the local shops in a morning while my lazy family stayed in bed. Many holiday rentals in Spain seem to be in some large complex with no easy access to a bakery etc so this one is quite unusual. Then in the evening it was fun to eat out, enjoy a bottle of wine and be able to walk home along the sea front. It was lovely to see masses of people out at midnight and not a single unpleasant scene. With so much to see in the surrounding area our stay was simply not long enough but we got a taste of, and for, Spain and I hope we will be coming back some time.

We were very satisfied with the property, it was clean and had all we needed. The swimming pool was a great amenity and was practically our own private pool! The air conditioning in the bedroom was a bonus! The SKY box on the TV was also appreciated, for entertaining the kids in the hot afternoons, and to listen to the radio. Overall the property was excellent, and we would recommend to our friends.
August 26th - September 4th 2010. Our (My brother and his wife) seventh visit to Garrucha and our third visit to this apartment. We are all well into the senile or senior catergory or whatever you prefer to call late sixties early seventies!! As on previous occassions we were more more than satisified. Very nice simple clean apparment. Excellent quite (at least when we were there) location within very easy walking distance of the sea, harbour, restaurants and town centre. Well looked after by the owners local representatives. We will probably go again next year (how boring!!!) and so what better reference.
The apartment is fantastic with plenty of room for a family of four. Clean and bright with everything you need. The pool is lovely and clean and never crowded. The area is great, the market is a must and very easy to get around with all the buses. We are already booking again for next year.
The flat was as described and location wise it was great. My only negative was that we needed to give it a clean as it was quite dusty. The pool was clean and a nice place to chill and escape from the spanish sun. Aircon that doesnt eat euros would be good, although i understand why it is pay-as-you-go, we would have had it on all night! A good place to stay, thanks.
Owner reply:

We have had to have PAYG air con as the bill was horrendous as clients tended to leave it on with doors and windows open. Having the PAYG also means we can keep the overal cost of the rental down.Garrucha is in a location of Spain that is the driest area, and there can be a little bit of dust in the air that settles. It can be noticable on the cars especiallly when the wind blows from the coast from Morocco.

superbly accessorised (TV/DVD/Music) and possibly the best location ever. Quiet street but only 2 minutes walk to everything.
Although we went to Garrucha out of season we had a lovely time. The apartment had all we needed and was very comfortable.
We had a very easy journey from Almeria airport to the Apartment in Garrucha. On arriving we found the apartment very clean and everything that we expected was there, including a DVD player for use when we wanted to chill out after a lovely day exploying the area or spending the day on the beach, which is only a 5min walk away. The pool was great and never overcrowded. All in all a great apartment every thing at hand and an excellent base to explore the area from.
Hi,Was meaning to send you a quick e-mail to say thankyou and we had a very nice week in Garrucha. The weather was very hot and we had a lovely time with a tan to prove it!The apartment was great, a little warm at times but really well situated, great size and very comfortable and clean. The pool and garden area was really nice and not very busy during the day.We were mainly going out to Spain to get an idea of the area with a view to buying a villa/apartment and Trisha from N&T was very helpful with information about places. We really liked the area, particularly up towards Vera Playa and Villaricos so will definitely being heading back!Thankyou again we had a lovely holiday - only extra things I'd mention would be some coffee mugs! (there appeared only to be one metal one!)kind regardsCharlotte (23-29 Aug 2005)Note: Missing polished stainless steel mugs now replaced.
Hi Mark Received your letter today and our deposit cheque, thank you. The apartment was great and ideally located for us to get to see everyone we needed to - solicitors, bank, agents, etc. We gave it a good clean before we left and trust that N&T services had little to do after we left other than the laundry. You asked for some feedback on your apartment and the only negative thing is that the little heater was insufficient to heat the whole apartment. Unfortunately the week we were there temperatures were not far off freezing at night. Trish (N&T) did provide a blanket for each of the beds and these made the difference when we were sleeping. Other than this one issue there is nothing to fault and we all had an enjoyable stay. By the way it was only on our last day that we discovered the road at the top which takes you out halfway down the hill into Garrucha - until then we had been going to the bottom of the hill and turning left to get to Garrucha, Vera, etc. sometimes a hair-raising experience. Again thank you for renting the apartment to us. Paul Henshaw (21-28 Feb 2005).Note: Additional Halogen heater and blankets now provided)
