Lovely apartment, glorious setting

Overview

The Costa Tropical is a very appealing area that has long been known to Spanish holidaymakers and is now starting to attract more foreign visitors. The town of Almunecar maintains its authentically Spanish character while welcoming international holidaymakers, a key factor in our familys decision to invest here. We spend as much time here as possible!

The Costa Tropical runs from Nerja to Motril and is characterised by rugged cliffs falling to the sea, a variety of beaches and a sub-tropical climate that supports avocados, mangoes and bananas.

A variety of holidays can be enjoyed at our apartment, including relaxing by the pool, visiting nearby beaches, water sports, horse riding, scuba diving, golf and walking in the countryside. Spains premiere ski resort is available in the winter and spring.

This may be the best climate in Europe. Compared to the rest of the Spanish south coast, the Costa Tropical is particularly mild in the winter and relatively cool and comfortable during the summer. There are more than 320 sunny days each year. Daytime highs range from 16 C in the winter to 29 in July and August, with lows of 8 in the winter and 20-22 in the summer.

The magnificent city of Granada with its spectacular Alhambra palace is only 40 minutes away by car, with high quality skiing in the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains from December to April. Skiing in the morning and the beach in the afternoon can be an option in the spring. Seville, another great destination, can be reached in 3 hours.

Gorgeous and peaceful setting
New in 2007, the apartment is in the community "Fuentes de Almunecar" (Fountains of Almunecar), perched strategically on a hilltop overlooking a spectacular coastline and backed by ranges of hills. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with lush sub-tropical vegetation, trees, fountains and waterfalls. Residents are Spanish, British and a sprinkling of other nationalities.

There are two communal pools, one an infinity pool, and wonderful views along the coast and out over the Mediterranean. Both pools are no more than a two minute walk from the apartment. While one of the two communal pools has a daytime lifeguard, neither of the pools is securely fenced and young children need to be supervised. The Infinity pool is open from 15th June to 15th September. The Panoramic pool is open all year weather permitting.

The centre of Almunecar has a classical Spanish atmosphere and has so far avoided being dominated by tourism. The Moorish and Phoenician architectural heritage shows up in the winding passages and cobbled squares of the old quarter as well as the prominent castle. The town also has several markets, some very good restaurants, a bird park, several beaches and a water park, all easily reachable from the house. Modern supermarkets, banks and other facilities are also available.

A car is needed to reach the property and to get around, particularly on warm summer days when the walk back from the nearest beaches or the centre of town can be a challenge. Driving in this part of Spain is not hard, the roads are in excellent condition and places are clearly signposted. In the house we provide a range of books, maps and suggestions for both driving and walking tours.

Almunecar can be reached easily by car from two airports: Malaga or Granada (each 60 mins). There is a wide choice of car hire options from these airports (we can provide suggestions if needed).

On arrival, our guests are provided with extensive information on local attractions and our favourite beaches, restaurants, shopping, night life, sports, sightseeing destinations, etc., many of which we have discovered by staying in the area for extended periods. Our local manager maintains the property and, if requested, can arrange activities and excursions.

The apartment
The 2-bedroom apartment has a total indoor area is about 85 m2. There is one full bathroom plus a WC. The interior is roomy, contributing to a light and open interior. Four adults are very comfortable here, plus there is a sleeper sofa in the living room that could suit two children. The apartment is fully equipped throughout with new furniture, fixtures and fittings. The furniture was imported from Denmark.

The rooftop terrace is very large, quiet and partly shaded, with excellent views of the coast and hillsides. It is an ideal place to enjoy a relaxing meal or sunbathe. The terrace is equipped with a dining table, chairs and sun beds.

Air conditioning and heating ensures that the apartment is comfortable year round.

Please do not bring your pets.

A beautiful town house, set on a hillside in the pretty Fuentes de Almunecar. It had everything we needed, and was very clean and tidy with modern decor and furnishings. It had amazing views of the sea one side and the Sierra Nevada mountains the other. These views can be seen from an exceptional roof terrace which was very spacious and had a table and chairs, sun loungers and a barbecue area. It had a lovely lounge and dining area and two large bedrooms. We had a very enjoyable stay at this town house and will be returning in the future to see even more of this beautiful area of Spain

We had a wonderful holiday with our two children aged 11 and 8. The apartment was clean and very well equipped. The roof terrace was great for family meals and for relaxing at various times of the day. The location was ideal for the smaller pool, which was a very short distance away and was well maintained.

Quality of apartment has exceeded our expectations! It was more spacious, finished to higher standards and better equipped. I think we missed an iron but Carol provided us with one very quickly, maybe it is good idea to keep one at the apartment? The location and views from the terrace are stunning! We will definitely recommend your place to our friends.

The description of the property were very good and accurate on the Website. "Our kids were excited and had all their belongings in place in 30 minuttes". Improvements: Driving direction were not good enough. We found the area, but the street name and number were not to be found. We needed to phone the site manager to guide us the last 1000 meters.

The description of the apartment is a perfect match to the actual experience !! We would be pleased to return to this apartment again, and to vist the very nice city of Almunecar.

If you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway, this is the place. The condo is very comfortable, with all the facilities of home. The terrace is gorgeous, we spent a lot of time there reading. You can barbecue and have a nice romantic dinner on the terrace. There are two pools on the property. One is very close to the apartment with great views of the ocean and the mountains. The infinity pool is about a 5-8 minute walk if you cut through the other condos and it has amazing breathtaking views. Most of our time was spent by the pools. Hassle free parking is available. We also liked the idea of a welcome basket, we didnt have to worry about food on our first day there. Almunecar is a 10 minute drive, and Granada is about 1 hr. The drive to Granada is very beautiful. If you go to Granada, we highly recommend the dinner and Flamenco show in Sacramento. Overall, we had a great stay!

This house has a unique and spectacular view, which has given us a fantastic holiday in Almuñecar again this year. The house is clean, bright and stylish decorated and contains exactly the things that you need. The house has kitchen on the ground floor and terrace in the second floor that benefits your strength and conditioning :-) All in all some fantastic environment for a wonderful holiday.

A beautiful apartment on 3 floors. The top floor was the roof terrace. Well stocked/clean. Peaceful & scenic. Only bug bear would be the noise of the underground car park door clanging open & shut. I think residents used the main doors to get to their cars rather than use the pedestrian door. You definately need a car as the walk to the village is a good 20 mins and probably 2 hours back! We never did this as it was too hot! Very pretty villages in The Alpujarras but dont bother with Trevelez - highest village in Spain - its a dump & not worth the long jouney. Calpaveira ( I think thats how you spell it) & Bubion were very very pretty as was Frigiliana. Would come again - maybe in Spring next time. Oh, & the walk back from the Infinity pool is hard work - a total of 172 steps to our apt!!! Needless to say we spent our pool time at the other pool. Very quite & clean. A wonderful holiday.

Very bright and spacious property. Both pools were lovely and well maintained. The welcome pack of food is very useful, especially given the location away from shops.

Spacious, well appointed, in an excellent urbanisation & extremely well equipped. The air-conditioning was much welcomed as were the two fabulous pools. We very much enjoyed our stay at the property. It is however a short drive from Almunecar & a car is a must. There would be no point in trying to walk down the steep hill to the town in the height of summer, cos you just wouldn't get back! Also, bring you own dvds, for a night in. If ever in the area in the future, we would happily rent this property again. Professional service from the owner & managers at all times. Cheers!

We were very happy with our stay in this villa. The property and its amenities and inclusions felt spick and span and brand new. Everything was exactly as decribed in the property summary on the villa website, so if you read that, you will have a very good idea of what the villa is like. We had a late Saturday arrival, so opted for the welcome hamper and were more than happy with its inclusions. The managers responded very quickly and efficiently to the couple of requests that we had and although friendly gave us all the space we needed to enjoy our holiday. There is a large TV and a sound system, but you may wish to bring your own DVDs or CDs as there was only one DVD at the property. Be aware that the villa is on a fairly steep hill, so you will definitely need a car to get around and the residential complex is quite large although it was very quiet when we were there. The pools were superb, but they are only officially open from noon to 8pm. The infinity pool in particular is a joy with its glorious view down the coast. We particularly enjoyed the villa's rooftop terrace and happily had many of our meals up there. It has a lovely view in all directions (although slightly hampered by rooftops in some places). I was personally a little disappointed with Almunecar itself - but I think that this was just a matter of individual taste. Although it does have a historical quarter and is not anywhere as touristy as the Costa del Sol, it was still a little too touristy for me. But Nerja is nice and the villa is superbly located for day trips to Granada and into the mountains, which we took full advantage of.

About the owner
We love Almunecar and the Costa del Sol and have been coming here for several years. We usually visit as a winter break from our home in Norway although this is a great year-round destination and we have even enjoyed some mild and sunny Christmas weather here. When we first started coming our children were young teenagers, now they are young adults and they still enjoy the area and want to keep coming back.
