Estepona is a charming town with a village feel on the Costa del Sol that caters well for the sun-seeking tourist. A villa in Estepona gives you easy access to beautiful beaches, several well regarded golf courses as well as the historic town itself. The historic old town is charming: the cobbled streets are full of bars, restaurants and quaint shops. La Rada beach, the closest to the town, is a nearly 3km long stretch of sand and is fronted by a wide promenade dotted with cafes, restaurants and bars.
You can find mountain biking, horse riding and hiking in the nearby mountain of Sierra Bermeja. More than twenty kilometres of coastline means that renting a villa or apartment in Estepona ensures you can enjoy leisurely swimming in the Mediterranean as well as more active pursuits such as diving, kite-boarding or sea-kayaking. Or take a day trip to see the endemic Barbary Apes and incredible views that the Rock of Gibraltar has to offer.
The summers in Estepona are hot, with temperatures frequently over 30 degrees, and being bordered by both the sea and the mountains, the town has a micro-climate offering 325 days or more of sunshine per year. You will be spoiled for choice of beaches in Estepona. La Rada beach in the town centre is the most popular and has correspondingly good facilities, including a number of chiringuitos – beach bars that serve delicious paella, fresh fish and other food. El Cristo beach is just outside the town but ideal for families and sun worshippers both, as it’s in a sheltered cove with long hours of sunshine, and the sand slopes gently into the blue sea.
Estepona is easy to get to: Gibraltar Airport is the closest, just 45 kilometres away, and Malaga Airport, which offers a greater number of flights, is only 80 kilometres away. Car hire is easy from both these airports, as is booking a transfer, and taxis are usually available but do check in advance for strikes.
