Location of Alfaz del Pi

The second most populous colony of Norwegians abroad is settled in Alfás del Pi, a place that owes its name to the Arabic inhabitants of the 8th century who gave the name of al-fas "fertile land" and to the native Valencianos that ended it with Pi "pine" in memory of the tree in the main square, symbol of the independence of Polop.

The most populated area is located on the foothills of the Sierra Helada, but for leisure and free time people fill the 4km of coastline, especially the area of Albir, whose 500-metre long pebbled beach offers all kinds of services and restaurants where you can taste their famous rice, meat and corn balls, while enjoying the great views of the Bay, the town of Altea and the Rock of Ifach.

Landscape and surroundings of Alfaz del Pi

The Sierra Helada and the beach of Albir have a history of great civilizations that passed through it: Iberians, Romans, Arabs ... Leaving important archeological remains and place names in the region of Alicante. One of the major Roman sites can be enjoyed at the foot of the lighthouse, a walking excursion recommended in summer to enjoy the countryside and its sheer cliffs, the sun and the coves of crystalline water that the Mediterranean has to offer.

Things to do in Alfaz del Pi

Albir is culture and entertainment, the promenade on the beach has the Walk of Fame autographed by all the actors honored in its film festival in July. Classical music in turn, is the protagonist of the Roman Baths of the Museum of the Roman town of L'Albir in the days of August, and avant-garde art is present at the Museum Foundation Frax at the foot of the beach.

Windsurfing, jet skiing, sailing and a great number of sports to enjoy in groups or individually thanks to the great sporting facilities and clinics that the village of Alfas has. Available to those who want to stay fit, offering athletics tracks, gyms, tennis courts and several football fields, which will keep all sporting enthusiasts occupied.

The Costa Blanca/Valencia region

Welcome to this exhilarating and enchanting part of Spain. This region stretches from Valencia ( the city that invented paella, is home to Formula 1 and Americas Cup racing) in the North to Alicante (a bustling, bright port and holiday city with vibrant night life) in the south.

Along the White Coast of the Costa Blanca you will find some of Spain's most popular beach resorts including Javea, Denia, Moraira, Altea, Benissa and Calpe offering blue flag beaches, excellent sports activities, lovely marinas and fishing ports surrounded by restaurants and bars serving some of the best of Spain's traditional cuisine.

The World Health Organisation has designated the northern Costa Blanca as possessing one of the finest climates found anywhere, and the EU has awarded many of the beaches in the area the prestigious "blue flag" for water quality and cleanliness several years running.

The coastline boasts some of the Spain's finest beaches, as well as pleasant natural features such as La Albufera – a freshwater lake famous for it's bird life, eels, flat bottomed boats and surrounding paella restaurants – and charming towns such as Altea – one of the prettiest little pueblos on the Valencian coastline – as well as the tourist Mecca of Benidorm with it's superb beaches and fantastic nightlife.

Alfaz

Alfaz town centre is a five minute drive from the villa. Everything you might need for your holiday, is available. There are banks where you can be attended in English, Norwegian, German, French and of course Spanish. There are lots shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, hairdessers and beauticians. The local Friday morning market is ideal for clothes, souvenirs and fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables. Also in the centre of Alfaz is the Casa de Cultura (cultural centre) where there are often shows, fiestas etc. The centre is the hub of the town where everyone congregates. Next door to the cultural building is the sports centre with gym and tennis facilities. Whilst Alfaz is a favoured residence for all Europeans due to the climate, and although isvery cosmopolitan, it still retains a very Spanish feel.

Alfaz has a beautiful cobbled beach at the quiet but upmarket town of Albir, which is a ten minute drive away, or a local bus can be taken from the town centre of Alfaz down to Albir. From Albir you can walk along the prom to the harbour and yacht port of the picturesque old Spanish town of Altea where you relax in one of the fabulous sea side cafes. Altea is rightfully known as 'A Jewel in the Valencia Region'. This picturesque town looks out over the sea across one of the most delightful bays on the Mediterranean. Overflowing with history, over the centuries Altea has welcomed (or been conquered by) Iberians, Romans, Moors and Christians, all of whom have contributed to the special culture of these coastal lands. The Old Town, with a walk through the cobbled streets and past the designer boutiques and craft shops up to the 'Domed Church' plaza at the top, should be on everyone's itinerary. In the Plaza the cultural and leisure centre of Añtea is the magnificent Church of the Virgen del Consuelo (Our Lady of Solace). Altea's peacefulness and tranquility have made it a paradise for artists and craftsmen.

The thriving tourist metropolis of Benidorm is only a short fifteen to twenty minutes drive from the villa -with the four great theme parks, Terra Mitica, Terra Natura, Aqualandia and Mundomar, being ideal to keep the family content.
