This gorgeous old cortijo which stands serenely amongst the olive and orange trees below the village offers private pool, peace and quiet, fabulous views and an interior to die for.
Set in a horseshoe shaped valley below the village of Válor, Las Cañadas is a three bedroomed cortijo with private pool, lounge, dining room and two terraces within it's own spacious grounds.
This traditionally built house remains cool and airy throughout the summer although wood is provided for the open fire for those booking later in the season who may experience cooler evenings.
The solid wood kitchen is full of character and offers ample storage. It is well equipped with pots, pans and everything else you require to cater for yourselves including an electric juicer so you can make the most of the plentiful oranges (in season). The adjacent dining room has french windows onto the terrace and farmhouse style furniture.
The spacious living room with french windows leading onto the terrace also has three further large windows making it an extremely light and airy space. The built in shelves are stocked with books for you to browse and a selection of games. An ipod dock is also provided and there is wifi throughout the property.
On the first floor is the exceptionally large master bedroom with super king sized bed and adjacent sitting area complete with comfortable sofa. This room opens onto a vine covered pergola offering direct access to the pool.
The large family bathroom offers bath with shower over, washbasin, wc and bidet with morrocan style cupboards for towels.
The top floor is approached via an idyllic shaded terrace with cane suite and fabulous views. Stable style doors lead to an attractive double room and a dual aspect twin, each of which has their own separate entrance from the terrace. A second shower room with wash basin and wc is shared by the two bedrooms on this level.
The ground floor terrace has dappled shade from the well established vines and offers an outdoor dining area for 6 people with a gas . The perfect place to absorb the stunning views whilst relaxing in a peace and tranquility which has to be experienced to be believed.
The cortijo is approached by a track which can be slightly bumpy in places so we do recommend a car with good ground clearance such as a Renault Kangoo or similar. Alternatively, we can meet you in the village, which is less than 10 minutes walk away, and transport you and your luggage to the house.
The Moorish village of Válor perches on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada gazing out over the valley and the market town of Ugijar. An unspoilt traditional Spanish village popular with Spanish tourists. Situated two hours from Granada and one hour from the coast, culture, countryside, beaches and skiing are all within easy reach.
With a population of just under 1000 the village has 8 bars, all of which serve free tapas and some of which offer a full menu. There are 2 small supermarkets, one with its own bakery, which sell all essential shopping items including fresh meat, fruit and veg. You will also find a pharmacy, bank with cash machine and a gift shop selling local cheeses and pottery. The travelling market visits on the 4th and 19th of every month with a few stalls selling clothing, plants, nuts & olives etc. For a wider range of shops and a bustling twice monthly market, the town of Ugijar is just 6 kilometres away. The village pool is open during the months of July and August and there are numerous fiestas throughout the year, the largest of these being Moors and Christians in September when the villagers re-enact the taking of the Alhambra complete with horses and musket fire.
Just a 20 minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to the equally charming villages of Mecina Alfahar and Nechite. With their olde worlde feel you can almost imagine you’ve stepped back into the last century.
You are surrounded by magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada and Contraviersa mountain ranges with numerous opportunities for walking and mountain biking on your doorstep. For the more adventurous, Mulhacen is close at hand.
Popular with Spanish tourists but as yet relatively undiscovered by other nationalities, Válor is an extremely friendly pueblo blanco and an ideal place to observe and enjoy the traditional Spanish way of life.
We stayed at las canadas for 8 nights in august and found the time just flew by. Ginny and Terry met us at post office within 5 minutes of us contacting them and we never looked back. We were myself my wife and 4 boys ages 7 , 5, 4, & 2 and i can tell you everyone loved it .
Cant wait to go back in July next year hopefully for 14 or 21 nights next year.
Also Terry and Ginny were very helpful with any problems / questions we had and i feel they actually improved our experience of Valor

Just returned from a lovely week at this property with beautiful views and peaceful location. The property is spacious, well equipped and the 5 of us including 3 teenagers had a truly relaxing holiday, the pool was a big hit with the kids. The outside space was brilliant there are plenty of loungers and chairs around the pool. The terraces ,where we ate most of our meals under the vines, have amazing views over the Sierra Nevada and will be a long lasting memory!
The advice given in the description regarding the track should be heeded when booking your hire car as the track is very bumpy.
We certainly recommend Las Canadas and hope to return ourselves .

We have just returned from the most fantastic week at Las Canadas.
The property itself far exceeded my expectations in both decor and location - it was stunning! The little touches such as the wine and food that were left for us and the comfortable furniture on the terraces really made the difference to our stay. There was even a lilo for the pool and candles for us to use.
Ginny and Terry were fantastic throughout booking and our stay, nothing was too much trouble for them and they were friendly and professional.
This is the perfect place for a tranquil retreat with fantastic views, I would recommend this property whole heartedly.
You are free to roam the 10,000 square meters of land and help yourself to fruit from the numerous trees. A juicer is provided for the abundance of oranges, but we also grow pears, pomegranates, figs, mandarins, sharon fruit, almonds and walnuts. The land is arranged on numerous terraces with lots of shady secret nooks and crannies for you to find. The front terrace with bbq offers a comfortable and tranquil spot to relax and take in the panoramic mountain views and is beautifully shaded by the old vine in summer. The upper covered terrace has the same fantastic views and has a comfortable wicker suite to relax in.

We are always on hand if you have a problem or require information but we also try to keep our distance and leave you to enjoy your privacy if that's what you prefer. Hope to see you soon!
