Villa overview - owner's description

The property benefits from not having nearby neighbours yet the house is only a 15 minute drive from the beach attractions of Almunecar. Almunecar is a friendly, authentically Spanish town with hundreds of tapas bars, restaurants, markets, and really nice people. Casa Laura is situated in authentic rural Andalucia approximately 5 kilometres inland from Almunecar.

The property has all the amenities and comfort that can be expected in a new, modern villa. The villa was designed to our specification by a local Andalucian Architectural practice. A private concrete road leads directly to the villa providing easy access, and the property is all on one level, offering disabled access throughout the house, the gardens and patio/pool areas.

The property consists of an extensive kitchen, 2 internal living areas, 3 large bedrooms, 3 designer bathrooms with a wetroom, and a further utility room. The fully air-conditioned sleeping accommodation and bathrooms are all connected along a wide collonaded corridor. This means that children can be settled down while food and drink are being prepared and cooked, while entertainment, and a general good time, is happening out of earshot of the bedrooms and everybody is happy. We can provide a bespoke grocery shop in advance of your arrival at the villa and this can be arranged upon request.

The property was specifically designed this way so that everybody can relax and have a great time. The central cooking island offers enough space for everybody to become involved and it's the focal point of the villa. To the exterior of the building there are landscaped gardens, extensive patio areas, multiple open-air dining options, a courtyard, a gas-fired barbecue and the pool. The house and pool area are bathed in sunshine from dawn until sundown. The house was specifically designed for the bedrooms to be positioned in the shade in order to offer a cool afternoon sanctuary. Newly installed air conditioning units in each bedroom guarantee a comfortable sleeping environment.

The gardens are professionally maintained and offer lemon trees, olives, as well as many many different types of tropical plant specifically chosen for the Mediterranean environment. The house is bright, light, and airy, designed for alfresco living, with all doors and windows taking advantage of cooling breezes. The house and pool area are bathed in sunshine from dawn until sundown. There are plenty of patios surrounding the house and plenty of positions to park your sunlounger. The pool is for your use only, it's complete with a shower and measures 9 x 4 metres. The pool is professionally maintained and the pool area offers breathtaking views across this authentic region of Andalusia.

Beaches are about 15 minutes drive from the villa. There are numerous beaches that stretch all along the coast, some are well developed, others offer little apart from surf and sand. All beaches are accessible by car.

I’d give this 2.5 stars out of 5 as we have had the same experience as the two reviews left by French guests.
First the good things and there are many; the villa is large and spacious, it’s certainly peaceful and secluded. The views are pretty good and the pool is fine, some might not like the fact that the shallow end is not graduated, it comes up to my chest and I’m 5’10”. There’s a barbecue outside to cook the wonderful range of fresh fish available from the municipal market in Almunecar which is a very pleasant town. It was wonderful to eat outside looking over to the mountains in the distance.
Indoors the island kitchen is large and well equipped and the living room is comfortable, there are some lovely ornaments and lots of painted ceramic bowls which go to create a very Spanish feel. There are plenty of showers and toilets and the bedrooms have air conditioning which was very well welcome.
However, there are two major drawbacks with this property, firstly the double bed in the main bedroom is unusable and the mattress needs throwing out, it’s not a question of personal preference between a hard and soft mattress; you can feel the springs sticking into your body as soon as you lie on it, not only that every tiny movement you make creates a loud creaking sound from the springs. We used the second bedroom with two single beds.
Secondly, I think the description of the villa should be more honest about how challenging the drive is. Once you leave the road in Almunecar you immediately turn up a steep narrow hill which bears left round a blind corner which is one car wide, there are several very steep sections and blind corners before you get to the last section, which leads to the villa. The final section is steep, uneven, with narrow and sheer unguarded drops; to turn into the villa you need to do a three-point turn backing out to the edge of a sheer drop before going up the very steep driveway. You don’t need a 4x4 but I’m so glad that we were lucky enough to be upgraded to an automatic – I’d have hated to do the drive in a manual car. Because the drive was so challenging we limited our visits out and certainly never went out in the dark, which is a shame because there’s a lot in Almunecar alone.
The bed problem can be sorted, the drive to the villa can’t and I think it should be made clearer that it is a challenging drive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday at Casa Laura. The villa is set in its own olive groves and commands a splendid view over the surrounding countryside. The area really is authentic Andalucia and the property has every modern convenience, ready to use, and made available. If you love cooking then the magnificent kitchen is a delight with acres of space and every utility that you could wish for. The area is excellent for birdwatching and the night sky is awesome with the Milky Way clearly visible with the naked eye. Thoroughly recommended!

Casa Laura is very well laid out and it's obvious that an architect has designed the property. The central cooking island in the huge open plan kitchen diner is at the heart of the villa. Food is prepared, drinks are chilled, cocktails are mixed in this wonderful space. Careful attention has been paid to all aspects of the property, the kitchen equipment is up to date, and there are cuipboards full of plates, bowls, glasses and other utensils. The villa is in a private olive grove with a private pool and it's very peaceful and quiet with great privacy. We stayed as a family of 6 and the space inside and outside was ample for us all. The swimming pool and large patio was a deifnite hit with the kids. I'd recommend Casa Laura as a great destination for a holiday in authentic Andalusia with the fantastic scenery of this part of the world as an amazing backdrop.

Casa Laura is a truly beautiful house in a wonderfully authentic part of Spain. The location is absolutely breathtaking and you will frequently find yourself quietly taking in the fantastic views. The house is extremely private and is set within lovely gardens. The drive up to the house is initially a little tricky but soon becomes second nature. I should note that you most definitely need a car if staying in this house/ part of Spain. The house has every amenity you could possibly require - in particular the kitchen terrace was a beautiful spot for both breakfast and evening meal. It should also be said that the housekeeper, is a fantastic host and was always at hand should you need any assistance. It is very hard to find any fault with this property. As a family, we find it much more convenient to rent a house than stay in a hotel or apartment complex. Casa Laura is without doubt the best property we have stayed in thus far. We are just back from a family holiday at this amazing villa. The views from every single window are even better than described - its secluded and totally private - a perfect get away from it all. My husband is a very fussy cook and the kitchen was equipped with everything he needed. Not just the kitchen, but the whole villa was of a very high standard and everything provided was in an "as new" condition. Neighbours we did meet, and the lady who looks after the villa, were friendly and helpful. The very last bit of road is a bit windy, but managed it absolutely fine in our little hire car. And the views and privacy you are rewarded with are absolutely worth it! The whole experience of booking this villa has been smooth, faultless and completely satisfactory and I would have no hesitation in recommending that you book this villa.
