Country house overview - owner's description
Brdo is a 200 year old house on the edge of Triglav national park, situated 2 kilometers from the village of Grahovo in the picturesque Baca valley which winds its way into the Julian Alps.
Hisa Brdo sunbathes on a terrace above the Baca Valley surrounded by the natural beauty of this area where the mediterranean meets the Alpine climate, making it an ideal destination for those who love mountain flora.
Hisa Brdo has been renovated to a high standard in order to accommodate modern day living whilst retaining its traditional features and charm.
The location is ideal for discovering Slovenia as we are located half way between the Soca valley and the Bohinj, Bled lakes. Ljubljana, postojana caves, Skocjan caves and Goriska wine region are all within an hours drive and the coast is only a 1.30 minute drive. Brdo has 9 rooms in total: 2 large double bedrooms (triple if required), 1 single bedroom, 2 upstairs bathrooms both fitted with showers (1 is an ensuite), as well as a large chill out area on the landing which can double as another sleeping area if required. Laundry room, 1 downstairs bathroom with bath, sitting room/dining area, another smaller living room which ajoins the kitchen.
The kitchen is in a traditional style, complete with wood burning stove. However, the kitchen also has a separate electric oven and a 5 ring gas hob. There is a microwave, kettle, large fridge/freezer, toasted sandwich maker, food blender etc. The kitchen has a dining table that comfortably seats 5 people but the dining area in the sitting room will seat 8 people. Off the kitchen there is a laundry room with a 8kg capacity washing machine. There is a large clothes line in the back garden for drying clothes and a clothes airer for wet days.
The house has 20 acres of forest and if you are fit and adventurous, you can take a steep walk down from the garden to the Baca River or you can drive there in about 5 minutes. Mountain biking, hiking, trekking and fishing are all possible in the immediate area
.Grahovo was the chosen location for the first full length Slovenian movie. The movie, Na Svoji Zemlji (On our own land), was filmed in 1946, just after the 2nd WW in Grahovo and in the neighboring village of Koritnica.
Grahovo is a small, sleepy, rural village surrounded by mountains and forestry. It is unspoilt as it is slightly off the main tourist track but still allows you to access all the main tourist attractions and activities.
This area is steeped in history from the 1st and 2nd World Wars, there are many local walks where you can explore bunkers and visit monuments. You can visit Slovenia's widest tree in the nearby village of Rut.
As regards to things to do in the Baca and Soca Valleys, well, the list is long....paragliding, fly fishing (Slovenia is world famous for its paragliding and fly fishing) canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, trekking, hiking and hunting to name a few.
Tolmin, located in the Soca Valley, is the closest principal town and is a 16 kilometer drive from Grahovo. There you will find Supermarkets, Adventure Sports Center, cinema etc. A trip to the nation’s capital, Ljubljana, is a 70 kilometer drive away or, if you fancy a day trip to Lake Bohinj, you can drive there in approximately one hour. Alternatively, you can catch the car train from Podbrdo which cuts through the mountains and gets you to Bohinj in 7 minutes. Bled is a further 20 minutes drive from Bohinj.
However you choose to spend your time, you are guaranteed to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, flora and fauna of this beautiful area.

"Brdo" located in the middle off a fantastic destination, high up in the hills looking out over the quiet valley. A bit long but interesting drive (30mins) gets you to the town of Tolmin where you can get all your need. The property is very comfortable in high standards and has a real homely feel, whether standing on the balcony with an early morning coffee or sitting round the table next to the fireplace.
Our kids addor the beautiful outdoor and when we went out for trips they asked to return early "home" so that what we did! And finally, John, the owner, was kind warm and friendly, helpful when needed, Thanks a lot John
