Country house to rent in Kamnik, Slovenia
Country house overview - owner's description
A mountain retreat in the Kamnik Alps of Slovenia. Ideal for holidays at any time of the year whether for a month or a few days.
The house is located in the Kamnik Alps at around 3000 feet above sea level in a peaceful location with a stunning view over the valley below. It has three bedrooms, the master bedroom has its own south facing balcony, bedroom two has a double bed and bedroom three has a comfortable single bed but with a pull out mattress to allow two people to occupy the room. A folding bed is also provided and is stored in the hallway next to the shower room on the ground floor.
Other rooms are a bathroom with shower, a second shower room,a modern fitted kitchen, a living dining room (with an enormous south facing balcony suitable for sunbathing and alfresco living) and a utility drying room.
The house enjoys central heating and satellite television. In winter the house is extremely cosy with a log burning stove, in summer it is remarkably cool. The house is set in over an acre of garden which is visited frequently by deer and other small animals. The house is comfortable and cosy but not super luxurious and this is reflected in the price which even at the peak of the season is around £65(€85) per night for a three bedroomed house!
Stay at Studenca
Studenca is a small hamlet about 6 kilometres from the Slovenian City of Kamnik (actually although its called a city it is smaller than most towns in Britain). Kamnik is a preserved medieval settlement with three castles and a traffic free paved shopping street. It is about 9km from Slovenias main airport and about 18 kilometres from the capital Ljubljana itself. Kamnik is served by a railway which runs every hour Monday to Friday into Ljubljana's main station. It has all the facilities you would expect including shops, supermarkets, an open air swimming pool (summer) and even an arts centre. You can enjoy a pleasant drink at many of the pavement cafes (such as the world famous Cafe Veronica) looking up at the mountains all around.
How to get there
Flights to Ljubljana (Brnik) leave Stansted daily and Luton 4 days a week. In summer there are also flights from Manchester twice a week. There are also flights from London Stansted to Trieste (Italy) every day. Cheapest flights are with easyjet, wizzair or ryanair and if you book sufficiently far in advance you can obtain a return flight from as little as £105 including taxes. You can hire a car at the airport but it is cheaper to pre-book on line with all the main companies.
The journey by road is about 1,000 miles from the channel ports or terminal. The cheapest and quickest way is via eurotunnel then via road through Northern France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. The only tolls payable by way of a vignette purchased at a petrol station are in Austria and Slovenia.
By rail to Ljubljana go via Eurostar from London St. Pancras to Paris Nord, Paris Gare de l'Est to Munich (day time train only) and Munich to Ljubljana (four trains daily).
Travel via Venice is difficult as the Italian Railways (FS) have stopped all cross border trains between Italy and Slovenia but Slovenian Railways run 2 trains to and from Villa Opicine just over the Italian border on the outskirts of Trieste. Loved it here! Whatever you need you will find it in this house it is so well equipped. Need a needle, an umbrella, slippers, Dvds, bar-b-que fuel, extra towels or spare bulbs - its all there. Look youll find it somewhere. Its obviously a well loved home and wrapped its arms round you. Must be wonderful to be snuggled up there in the snow! (Thanks for the much appreciated bottle of wine on arrival too)
A fabulous spot to stay with breathtaking views and complete peace. We were so glad we booked this one.
There has to be a special mention here for the owners, Lorraine and John. They were so very helpful over the phone when we had a car problem, helping us to sort it out with the neighbouring farmer was no trouble to them. Without them our week could have been ruined. Thank you both for being so kind.
Would we go again - most definitely ... well be back. How could we resist?
Good to know: Difficult to drive car to the house, but you can leave car very close, on main street.
Very nice chalet with large balcony.
Incredible house with stunning views, no shortage of any mod-cons, bed linen or indeed anything. Our boys appreciated the many movies in the collection and watched quite a few during our syay. Seeing a deer in the garden was such a thrill for us all. The location was perfrect. The long winding road trip to and from the house was well worth it. We enjoyed great privacy, peace and quiet throughout our stay. Kamink was so convenient as was travelling to Lakes Bled and Bohin and even reaching Bovec was all dooable same day. Were sure to return!
A lovely house in an idyllic location with views over wooded hills and mountains. Perfect for car trips throughout Slovenia - rafting, caves, coast, mountains - as well as wonderful walks locally. We particularly appreciated the friendly welcome on arrival and having use of washing machine, TV, DVDs, range of books, local guides and maps: the house feels like a real home from home.
My family and I had a great time in this apartment. The caretaker and other people in the apartments are very friendly and helpful. The apartment is fantastic and very spacious! The pool area and the gardens are kept immaculate. It was also very quiet at all times of the day. We will definetly return. We also liked the location, a great town, not too big and commercialised.
