Yellow Bird, is a one bedroom private villa with pool, superbly located overlooking Oualie Beach. Fantastic views. Lovely garden. Fun and cozy, perfect for couples and honeymooners.
Yellow Bird is a lovely, spacious one bedroom detatched house, overlooking the Caribbean Sea at Oualie Bay, Nevis. The house is slightly elevated, being built into the steep lower slopes of Round Hill. Nestled into a half acre private, mature garden with a private pool, sundecks and balcony, there are magnificent views across the 'Narrows' towards the south east peninsular of St Kitts. Oualie Bay Beach is directly opposite Yellow Bird and access is a mere 4 minute stroll from the garden gate. Oualie Beach is quiet and sheltered with superb swimming. Many of the island's beach activities are located at Oualie including PADI diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and sunfish sailing. The Oualie Bay Beach Hotel has a very good restaurant and small bar, popular on Saturday evenings when it hosts to a traditional Nevisian String Band. Yellow Bird is fun and cosy, very spacious, light and bright. Perfect for couples and honeymooners, with plenty of privacy and seclusion without being too isolated.
Oualie Bay is located on the north eastern coast of Nevis. It has a very sheltered crescent shaped beach, tucked between Hurricane Hill to the east and Tamarind Point to the west. It is a pretty, scenic, hilly area with just one small beach hotel, bar and restaurant. The other properties are private villas, hugging the coast and built into the lush hillside. Oualie Beach, Nevis is directly opposite Turtle Beach, St Kitts and a small jetty at Oualie is anchor to the small charter boats and water taxis that make the crossing between the two islands. There are lots of activities to seek out near the beach but it remains a quiet, unspoilt sunspot. To the east of Oualie Bay is Lovers Beach, which at about a half an hours walk away is an almost deserted, undeveloped stretch of much wilder, Atlantic shoreline. Cades Bay and Pinneys to the south are also beautiful Caribbean side beaches, with a few bars and the largest hotel on the island, The Four Seasons.
Nevis is the smaller of the two island federation of St Kitts and Nevis. The islands are part of the Leeward Island chain and are blessed with a near perfect climate. Rarely exceeding late 80's farenheight and rarely dropping below mid 70's, the islands are constantly cooled by seabreezes and tradewinds.
Rainfall is plentifull, particularly in autumn months, making the islands lush and tropical. The beaches on the north and western coasts are fine white and golden sand and have very good swimming.
The conical peak of Mount Nevis rises to over 6000 feet, with rainforest above the 2000 feet contour.
Originally inhabited first by the Arawaks and then by the Caribs, Nevis's population is now predominantly Afro Caribbean, people whose ancestors settled following Emancipation.
In colonial days, Nevis had many sugar plantations and was home to some of the most beautiful great houses in the region and was known at 'The Queen of the Caribees'.
Many of these houses still survive as luxury Plantation House Hotels, whilst others now lie in graceful ruin, some even reputedly haunted such as Eden Brown. There are also still refinery ruins, dating back hundreds of years such as the strange, quiet machinery works at the New River Estate.
Today, Nevis is still beautiful and remains unspoiled for the most part. It is a very relaxed, friendly island and all visitors are warmly welcomed.

If you book Yellow Bird you will definitely not be disappointed, the place is an experience not to be missed if you want a relaxing unique holiday. Yellow Bird is set back from a lovely safe beach which is only 5 minutes walk away. The bus will stop outside the gate and take you to the town for your grocery shopping. We hired a car for one day just to go round the Island, I recommend you travel round on a Sunday to see the people of Nevis dressed in the lovely Sunday best going to Church. If you want a holiday with loads of nightlife forget Nevis, there is always Spain, but this is unique. Visit the Plantation Houses for a coffee or rum punch. We loved our holiday and wished we had stayed longer
Perfect! Will stay at Yellow Bird again!

We are thrilled with our experience at Yellow Bird. It is ideally located, beautifully maintained and has stunning views! Its better than the pictures posted. Everything about Yellow Bird was just lovely. The yard has beautiful tropical plants/flowering plants that attract a variety of birds including humming birds. There were a few mornings that we saw monkeys in the yard. A fun experience!
The home is spacious and airy, with a large bathroom, beautiful large shower and ample closet space. The owner had some staple items (eggs, bread, milk, juice, sugar) in the refridgerator and its easy to get to the market and pick up additional items. Since the house is set away from the road, we felt very safe and didnt hear street noise. The house has its own pool (very clean) and decks with a variety of views. We spent a day at the house by the pool relaxing...its that relaxing and welcoming of a place.
Oualie Bay/Beach are just a short walk across the street as is the cafe/bar at the Oulaie Beach Hotel. Other dinner options are within a walk or quick cab ride.
We loved being there and will certainly plan on renting Yellow Bird again on our next trip to Nevis.

We chose Yellow Bird for a quiet, undisturbed week to recharge batteries. Being seasoned travellers, we were prepared for mild disappointment, as internet sites can often paint a rosier picture than the reality. In fact, if anything, Yellow Bird is better than the internet shows. For a start, it is very spacious, much more so than expected. Every aspect of the house is excellent (thanks for the comprehensive welcome pack, by the way) but the trump card is the total privacy, making complete relaxation easy to achieve. The other brilliant thing is that, despite the secluded positioning, everything you could require is within walking distance. We didn’t miss not having a car at all, because the beach, excellent eating places and even a shop are easy to reach (if you can tear yourself away from the private pool). If you want to go further afield, the buses are frequent and very cheap. The beach is literally one minute’s walk away, and it felt like having a private beach, as there was never anyone else there. The welcome from the lovely Tracy and Rita was impeccable, and you felt that they’d help you out instantly if any issue cropped up (which is unlikely). Unreservedly recommended.

Not only was Nevis such a beautiful island but your villa was fantastic and absolutely ideal in every respect. We had a fantastic two weeks there ' 'Back for a couple of days we already miss those great and peaceful days at Yellow Bird. It is such a lovely, homely and very tasteful place' 'Your home there is just that - a home - we were very comfortable and enjoyed the privacy of our own place' 'Just wanted to drop you a quick thank you for arranging the car rental, providing information, etc. on our recent rental of Yellow Bird. We loved the week we spent in Nevis and at Yellow Bird'
Yellow Bird has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. There are 5 sets of double part glazed and part louvred timber doors, leading to an east facing deck and lower pool deck, a west facing deck, and the north facing deck which looks across the Narrows to St Kitts.
The pool is 15' x 15' and is 5' at it's deepest point.
A pretty antique Dutch bed can be erected in an
alcove within the living area to provide sleeping accommodation for a third adult or child.
About the owner
We are Gina and Nick and we live in Richmond upon Thames, just outside of London. We have been in the Fine Arts and Publishing business all our working lives and ran a galleries in Richmond and Bath for 32 years.
We bought Yellow Bird in 1999, after a few holidays on Nevis. We loved the Oualie Bay area, but didn't want, or see the need to dig up more land to build a house . YB was for sale, albeit a bit neglected and dated, but in a wonderful position overlooking the sea and with a mature garden. So we just set about doing a bit of remodeling, turning it from a slightly cramped 2 bedroom house into a much more spacious 1 bedroom property. We added the decks, balcony and pool and then had to say sorry to the garden which had got a bit trampled in places, so stuck lots more plants in! The garden is now a wonderful haven for birds and other wildlife.
Yellow Bird has been renting out since 2000 and seems to be very popular with many returning guests each year.
