Apartment overview - owner's description

A small but cosy holiday accommodation, located in the middle of a small subtropical paradise, above the lively village of Porto da Cruz, where one finds a beautiful sea promenade . In a renovated villa you find this low floor apartment studio with direct access to a well kept garden with swimming pool. From several terraces one enjoys a great panoramic sea view, in a meeting of the blue ocean with the blue skies. Property is rightfully known as the Eagles Nest.

This sunny studio with a small kitchenette and with a nice decoration offers a cosy atmosphere. With 30 m² of living area, it consists of a combined living/sleeping room with kitchenette, satellite TV, shower room, 2 terraces, BBQ, sea view and swimming pool (9x4.5m). The studio apartment is well divided and can still accommodate a third person (child). Inserted in a plot of 700 m².

The Village of Porto da Cruz
Porto da Cruz is one of the parishes belonging to the Machico council. Its name came from a cross (Cruz) that was placed by the explorers on the bay once used as port (Porto). The attractions of this small parish are hidden and youll have to take a closer look to find them. One of them is the old sugar cane factory, which is still operating, as it was when it started with the sugar production in 1927. It boasts a 26 meter tall tower and when its working you might even see steam coming out!

Not to be missed is also the place known as Penha dÁguia, an imposing rock that separates Porto da Cruz from Faial. Getting up there might be a challenge, as the road is very steep, but the songs of the birds will help you on the way up and once you get there youll be sure it was definitely worth

Porto da Cruz is also famous for its wine. Known as vinho seco americano (dry red wine made of a type of grape called americana), this local product is the theme for a celebration usually happening in September (Festa do Vinho). In Porto da Cruz there are another two wonderful religious celebrations, with great beauty. The first occurs on days 15 and 16 of August, and the second, at the following weekend (Saturday and Sunday). They are celebrations that visitors should not miss!!!

The Porto da Cruz village, has a Public natural swimming pool (sea water), a black sand beach, mini markets, restaurants equipped with several different kitchens, bars, transport services, health services, able to provide to the visitor, the satisfaction of emerging daily needs.

Thank you to Duarte for advertising this amazing studio, the views are incredible and because of the different weather it seems you get a different view each time you look out, especially from the pool where you will never forget that view. The pool is lovely although it took me a while to get in and once in it certainly cooled you down. The studio has limited cooking facilities with a toaster and 2 ring hob so be prepared to eat out, the restaurants are very good but you do have to travel out to a supermarket for supplies, but saying that the bus journey is well worth it just for the views. Duarte was very helpful and explained where to find everything and was always at the end of the phone.
Please just be aware there are hills and 135 steps to get here, but well worth it as you will see.

Couple from Coulsdon, United Kingdom Sep 2016

This was our first time in Madeira so the first time at the property . After a busy time work wise we both needed a restful holiday , we wern't disappointed. Duarte ( the owner) met us on arrival to help us in and show us where everything was , stating if there were any queries to ring him . Then bid us farewell to enjoy our break .He called in midway to give us some clean sheets as we were there for 2 weeks . We spent the first 3-4 days just enjoying the stunning view and frequent dips in the pool.Porto da Cruz was away from the touristy areas of Funchal which we liked. We didn't hire a Car as we wanted to mainly take it easy relaxing without going every where . When we felt the urge to wander we caught the local bus into Machio where there is a sandy beach and some good shops and 2 excellent well stocked Supermarkets. It was nice to mix with the local people who were very friendly and helpful. Also had a trip to Funchal the capital on the bus great to see all the sights without driving We couldn't fault the villa or its facilities it was great to just sit in the Garden and read ,admiring the Sea view. The beds were very comfortable and it was so peaceful . Look out for the Fish man who comes round every day at about 11 -12 am in a white van with the loudspeaker you can here him coming some distance away . We did eat out a lot at the many excellent Seafront restaurants there but also Barbequed fresh fish in the garden and enjoyed it (with a beer ! ) as the sun set. Duarte was on hand (at the end of a phone ) if we needed him but without being intrusive. We would certainly would recommend the villa, its facilities and the location , and hope to return again next year. Derek Clare from Surrey

Couple from Nelson, United Kingdom May 2016

This was our second stay at Casa de Aguia, the first time was April 2014, this time was late May 2016. The apartment / studio is very clean and tidy, it is a quiet spot, which suits our requirement. When the weather is good we stay by the pool, otherwise we jump on a bus and head to Funchal.
We will be booking again for next year.

A real paradise for couples, who want to bee on their own, minding their own business, taking care of themselves, enjoying the peace and the scenery. Near to many beautiful Levadas to wander along. Can bee hard to manage your stay without a car.

Some constructive criticism (staying at the premises 7.2.-3.3.14):
- the cocking facilities, with only two small electric plates, are not of very high standard (especially if staying for more than a week). A well equipped micro owen could compensate for the poor electric hubs (or a BBQ)
- only one power plug competing for toaster, coffee and/or water maker,
- during rainy days/nights, the room ibecome extremely humid especially in the morning, why you need to dry your clothes at daytime in the sun (that luckily shines almost every day, at least at some point)

This information have also been given directly the owner.

My husband and I have just returned from Madeira and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday. My main concern and the reason I marked the booking down was the poor communication with the owner. We had read wonderful reviews on your website about the friendliness and attentiveness of the owner and his wife but unfortunately they never made contact with us at all during our stay, which was very disappointing. We were met by the owners son who gave us the keys and showed us to the villa saying that his father would be in touch over the weekend. The villa was very clean and good value for money, but we were unable to locate the switches for the outside lights. It became dark at 6.30pm and we had terrible problems finding our way out of the villa and returning, in fact it was quite dangerous. We tried to contact the owner several times by using the phone number he had given us but it was unobtainable - so we had to preserve with the lack of outside lighting.
Having used your villas before we were disappointed to find that the owner had left no information or literature on the area or the villa [ for example what to do with rubbish!! ] It was a great pity that there wasnt a DVD player as it was dark early and restaurants in the village closed relatively early. English TV channels were very limited. Saying all this we would possibly recommend this villa if suggestions were implemented.

We stayed in Casa de Aguia from Tuesday July 30th until Friday August 9th 2013. As soon as the property was booked we asked some questions to the owner and he replied immediately the same day. This gave us a confortable feeling booking this property.
The instructions we received to get to the house were very clear and we met Duarte, the owner, in front of the church of Porto da Cruz. The view from the appartment is priceless. Porto da Cruz is quite authentic. Tourists are everywhere on the Island, but if you want to experience the island away from the mass tourism of Funchal this is your option. We had a rental car for the whole lenght of our vacation and this is a must if you want to get around easily.
The appartment itself is basic, but clean. The mattresses of the beds are a bit hard though. The private pool was very enjoyable with the most stunning views possible.
If you stay here, you should not miss eating the Fragateira, fish stew, at A Pipa, the best snackbar/resto in the village. And do not forget to ask to make a Poncha at your table.
I would highly recommend this property to people that want to visit Madeira and do more than just sunbathing. If I would come back one day, I will stay here again.
