Villa overview - owner's description

Casa Dos Avos is a quaint, traditional villa which has been recently renovated to create a lovely base for a summer holiday for couples or small families.

Casa Dos Avos is a quaint, traditional villa which has been recently completely renovated to create a lovely villa for a summer holiday for couples or small families. Set back from the road between Vale De Parra and Galé Beach, the villa is within walking distance a couple of supermarkets and a choice of restaurants and a bar, plus it's only a short drive to some great restaurants in Guia, and a little further to Albufeira. There are several beaches to choose from closeby, the nearest is Galé Beach which is 1.5km away from the villa.

Casa Dos Avos has been very carefully and tastefully restored to create a bright, colourful villa with a lovely lawned garden and private pool, in the heart of the Vale Da Parra region of Albufeira, with easy access to local restaurants and the beach.

A gate leads from a quiet street with plenty of parking into the garden at the front of this bungalow-stlye villa. All the accommodation is on one level, and the entrance at the side of the house leads from a dining terrace and barbecue area into the kitchen which has brand new modern appliances including a dishwasher and large fridge freezer. Light and bright decor combine with lots of natural light to make the kitchen the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, whilst also allowing easy access to the barbecue, garden and pool.

The open-plan lounge-dining room has cool, tiled floors, and more bright, colourful decor, there's plenty of comfortable seating, a flatscreen TV and DVD player, and a dining table and leather chairs. There is also complimentary Wi-Fi internet access.

There are two bedrooms - a double and a twin - and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms are bright and airy with lots of light coming through double windows. The double bedroom has an en-suite shower bathroom, and the twin bedroom has access to the house bathroom which has a bath and an over-bath shower.

Outside, all the garden is to the front of the house, and is accessed from the main door out of the kitchen. The garden is split by a low-level wall and fence, to one side steps lead down to the pool terrace and sun beds, and to the other is a large lawn dotted with plants and palm trees. The exterior dining area is sheltered and offers some shade from the sun, whilst looking over the garden and pool.

Casa dos Avos translates to "House of Grandparents"... Grannie's House. The sterotypical image and smell of "grannie's house" that leaps to mind is pretty much what you get staying here. The decor is very tired and dated, the kitchen becomes an oven whenever the cooker or oven is in use because the cook hood doesn't work. The only knife that's sharp enough to cut anything is the bread knife which we had to purchase (and left behind) despite being promised by Carmo (the agent) that she would get someone to sort this. The internet is flaky at best and the owner, who speaks no English at all, visits every day to drown everything in the garden under the guise of watering the plants - no thought of privacy, how about sod off and come back when we're out or asleep. The next house up the road seems to be some kind of mechanics workshop, lots of engine revving and hammering. Not the relaxing break we were hoping for. Wouldn't recommend or stay there again.

Hello Scott,

Firstly we would like to say thank you for sending in your review on Villarenters/Clickstay on your return from the Casa Dos Avos.

We truly appreciate your comments and it is only be receiving feedback like this that we can look into the issues, and resolve them. We recognise that it is imperative that we ensure all the little things are right. We always make sure that each point is discussed with our resort manager and our resort representative, Carmo. All points are also talked over with the villa owner.

I’m not sure why the check-in/check-out, cleanliness, area, and communication with Carmo who visited you, only got one star from you, as all these things are great, I’ve been myself here several times and have had family stay too, who love the area and the fact that the keys are at the house on arrival. If you want to email me any comments with regards to these we would of course look into these.

I am sorry that you feel that the advert accuracy wasn’t good. As we state, this is a quaint, traditional Portuguese villa that has been restored to be brighter and more colourful. It isn’t a modern new house. Each year the owner is trying to better the house, which is a great thing, this winter it is having new tiled floors throughout - they always strive to make sure it is as good as possible, they are great owners. The flowers and trees are always beautiful and this is why the owner waters them in July and August, or they would dry out and die, and not look attractive. We have spoken with him and if anyone requests privacy or for him to do this every two days, at a certain time given by clients, this is no problem at all.

I just spoke to Carmo, the Cooker Hood is working she checks switches/lights on arrival days. The appliances were all bought new in the renovation 2 years ago, and all the books of how to use the appliances are in the kitchen drawer. Carmo thinks perhaps the wall switch or hood switch could have been knocked by the cleaners but again this could have been rectified by her immediately if she’d known. Again with the internet – we have 2 dongles in resort for people to rent, if the internet was terrible perhaps she could have brought one round for you.

There was a full set of knives in April, so whether clients have thrown them away or damaged them we are not sure. When Carmo came to see you and found out this she explained to the owner and they took a brand new set of knives round.. she just spoke to them to find out what happened and they took it to the other house that they own, a little confusion. She was surprised to hear this and thought this had been rectified as she didn’t hear anything else from you. We are sorry about this, and Carmo says she cannot apologise enough for the error and the new full set of knives will be taken round to the Avos today. If you had text her to let her know that you hadn’t got this she would have been able to resolve this immediately.

She is really upset to hear that you didn’t have a relaxing holiday. She said to you if you need anything else at all just to text or call her, so when she didn’t hear anything from you for the whole fortnight she assumed you were having a lovely time. If she had known about any of your comments, the gardener, cooker hood, knives, internet, she would have been able to rectify them immediately.

I am sorry for the experience that you had and that it didn’t meet your expectations. This is not a usual review for us at all, and we want to restore your confidence in us.

If you would like to call or e-mail me when you are thinking of your next holiday to any of our more modern houses I will happily do a special discount for you, in the hope of restoring confidence.

Yours sincerely,

Lynne
