Apartment overview - owner's description

Completed in 2007, Apartment Vasco da Gama is a second floor apartment - with lift access - superbly situated on the 5 Star award winning Lagos Marina, and only a ten minute walk to Meia Praia beach. The restaurants and bars on the Marina quayside are a few minutes stroll away and a further two minutes will take you across the bridge into Lagos town centre where there are many more shops, bars and award winning restaurants to choose from. The golf courses at Palmares - voted best in Europe at the 2017 European Travel Awards - and Boavista Golf Resort are within five to ten minutes drive and the courses at Penina to the east and Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort to the west are about 25 minutes drive away. Behind the apartment (but completely out of site) is a huge supermarket, Pingo Doce, which caters for all self-catering needs and includes a deli, bakery, huge selection of fish and meats, fruit and vegetables, a cafe and also has a clothing store too.

Apartment Vasco da Gama is a well furnished two bedroom apartment which is reached by lift. The open plan lounge is furnished with twin sofas, and a dining table to seat six. Both the bedrooms and the living/dining room have sliding doors opening on to a large balcony, which has beautiful views over the Marina. Both bedrooms are twin bedded and the apartment has the added facility of cool and heat air conditioning in both bedrooms and living/dining area. The units have a heating function, making this apartment an ideal winter base too. Satellite / new smart, interactive TV including Sky sports, movies, box sets and all UK HD channels and free WiFi are also provided. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and there is also a separate shower room (refurbished April 2017) with toilet. Both bedrooms have large wardrobes with ample hanging, shelf and drawer space. The kitchen is well equipped with a hob, fridge freezer and microwave. There is also an integral Zannusi washing machine provided too.
Should you require cot facilities, this can be provided locally by the management team.

Complimentary swimming pool access at the nearby Marina Club Suite Hotel (3 minute walk away) is available for up to 4 people with this apartment. A health club is also available at the Marina Club Suite Hotel, payable locally. There is also a free playground for children in the near vicinity.

Out & About
The cosmopolitan town of Lagos, which many believe to be the best on the Algarve, is on your doorstep. There are many beaches to choose from, the largest being the Meia Praia which stretches for 5kms round the coast to Alvor and has watersports to suit all needs; it also has surfing schools too. Praia da Batata is situated beneath the cliffs in front of the Fort in the city; Praia da Dona Ana has spectacular views of the rock formations and beautiful seas and Praia do Camilo is a small and stunning beach and is home to the very famous Restaurante O Camilo.
The Marina dominates the river as it opens into the sea and you can choose activities such as deep sea fishing, dolphin watching trips and yacht hire as well as the superb Grotto trips. Lagos is an historic town with some city walls still standing and there are several museums and churches worth a visit. This is a working Portuguese town with markets, shops and plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. The fabulous west coast beaches, where the surfing is renowned, are only 30 minutes drive away and the Monchique hills and the historic old capital of the Algarve, Silves, is an equal distance to the East. As Apartment Vasco da Gama is so centrally situated, a car is not essential for your holiday enjoyment but to gain an appreciation of just what the Western Algarve can offer, a car is recommended.

Although we had a lovely stay at Logos Marina. I did feel the apartment was not as clean as it should have been. There were only the very basic supplies of towels and tea towels. So unless you went out and bought some those that were supplied were not suitable. Generally the apartment meet our needs except for the bathroom facilities. The shower in the en-suite was not fit for purpose, when you turned it on it went everywhere ... except on the person that wanted a shower. The shower in the other bathroom was completely useless, unless you were a small child. the shower head is fixed to the wall about 3 foot from the floor and it was one of those that you had to hold, Not sure how you can wash yourself !! That's if you can get into the shower cubicle, which is so small even a small child would struggle. So the only thing left to do was to use the bath, which is fine if you are not dis-abled and able to get into a bath. Neither of us could get in the bath.
The patio doors on to the balcony should have a notice somewhere saying that people should not close the doors because they lock and there is no way of opening them. This happened to us, we closed the doors to keep the heat in the apartment and they locked with our phone and any telephone numbers inside !! You can imagine our horror being locked out on the second floor. Thankfully one of the other patio doors was broken and did'nt lock so we managed to get back into the apartment that way.

Dear Keith,
Thank you for your review which I really appreciate as only by receiving feedback, can I aim to improve the service our customers, like you, receive. I am really disappointed that the apartment wasn't as clean as expected and I would really appreciate if you could let me have any specific areas that you were unhappy with. I will take up with our management team all the points you've raised and any further information you forward. With regards to the bathrooms, I am a little unsure as to why you've had any issues. In the en-suite which I've used many times, I've never had an issue with turning on the shower and standing in the bath and taking a shower as normal. Also, in the shower room, the shower head is hand-held and the actual cubicle is a standard size. A friend of mine who is six feet two and weighs a hefty seventeen stones plus, has used it many times without issue. Again, please further any information you may think useful.
Thank you for your comments regarding the patio doors and I will work with our management team to address this issue.
Regarding the towels, you should have received a bath towel and hand towel each and I understand there were enough towels for 4 guests which should be ample for a weeks stay. I bought new towels just last year so they should be of a good standard but again I will check this. The tea towels are replaced every year and there are plenty on site and I would ask that if this is ever an issue for you again, please just ring the management team and they will happily supply more.
I really do appreciate your comments and hopefully, you can let me have some specific examples as requested. May I also take this opportunity to thank you for your custom and hopefully, I can be of service again.
Kind regards, Stuart.

on the plus side:
The location is superb - lovely views, large veranda, and full sun in the morning
Right on top of numerous bars and restaurants
Spotlessly clean and the meet and greet was excellent
on the down side:
Apartment furnishings are basic and functional (but don't expect any luxury or home comforts)
The TV is minute and there is no CD player
The Bathrooms do not have windows

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely apartment which was light, clean and spacious and had everything you need for a family holiday. Fantastic location with beautiful views overlooking the Marina and a supermarket literally around the corner! It's just a few minutes walk to the beautiful sandy beach and a few minutes walk over a bridge into the town centre which has a great atmosphere and loads of really nice restaurants and shops. Plenty of activities available, we did kayaking, surfing and dolphin watching! Owner was also really helpful when booking.

We have stayed at this apartment on a previous visit to Lagos. The only problem we had was that the television had no picture. I bought a new aerial lead from a local shop which solved the problem. Otherwise everything was fine and I would visit again in the future.

Spacious, modern appartment with large balcony and excellent view of the marina. Minor quibbles: we cooked for ourselves every day. There were only two saucepans, and the frying pan had lost most of its non stick coating. Would have been nice to have wifi. But, as I say, minor quibbles. Its a lovely appartment and we had a great holiday.

Apartment and marina surroundings cant be faulted - best holiday apt we have stayed in. Nice pool at the hotel. V Good quality bars and restaurants in easy/flat walking distance. Lagos quite lively, especially at weekend - we were there late July 09. Also, proximity to Pingos supermarket is great. Will definitely return.

This is a beautifully furnished and very spacious apartment in an idyllic location. The huge balcony is wonderful to sit out and look over the marina (while wishing one of the yachts was mine!) The town is a short walk away and filled with many lovely restaurants and bars. Would highly recommend Don Toro Steakhouse!! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and have already booked again for July!

Our apartment is family owned and was completed and furnished in April 2007. It is owned by my brother who runs his own mortgage advice company, my partner who is a Matron in the NHS and myself,, saving people money every day with Utility Warehouse. We bought the apartment - our first in tthe overseas property market - before it was completed and it gives us everything we want; fantastic views of the marina, lots of space and its proximity to great restaurants, the beach and the beautiful old town.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
