Village house overview - owner's description

The house is on 2 floors with bedrooms both upstairs and down, along with a bathroom on each floor. All the traditional features have been retained in the main house, these include exposed stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings giving a cosy homely feel to the property. There are wood burners installed making the property usable all year round.

The "winery" part of the house has been fully restored to become an integrated part of the house, it benefits from a double sofa bed. It is used as a games room but can double up as an additonal bedroom if required. The winery is equiped with a pool table, table football and an air hockey table and has a wood burner installed so it can be enjoyed even on the coolest evenings in winter.

The property benfits from Wi Fi connection which is available to guests.

The garden has a swimming pool for sole use of the guests and the large rear garden is totally private and secluded making it an ideal place to relax and soak up the sun, read a book, swim or just enjoy a barbeque and a glass of wine on the covered terrace.

The village itself is typically Portuguese and has all the basic amenities within easy walking distance - bars, mini market, and even has a bread van and fresh fish van calling daily to sell their wares.

Despite being slightly inland the house is only 10 minutes from Caldas da Rainha and Obidos and the many beautiful beaches are only 15-20mins away.

The Silver Coast is truly a Portuguese gem, being relatively undiscovered by tourists. The people are extremely friendly, although sometimes they do not speak any English making communication quite entertaining for both parties.

The Silver Coast is really quite green with the temperatures ranging from a pleasant 14 degrees in the winter to a glorious 40 degrees in the summer.

Dining out is very cheap and you can expect to get a meal for 2 including starters, wine and coffee for around €25. Porco Preto (black pig), Stone Steak, Alentejo Pork and Fresh Fish are all well worth trying.

Obidos is a only 10 min away and is a medieval castle, walled city, they host many festivals here during the year including the chocolate festival in March. You can watch the Portuguese making woven pottery baskets/dishes and take a horse and carriage ride to see the sites or walk the full length of the embattlement walls.

Budha Eden is well worth a visit, it costs a couple of euro entry, the sight of the 30+ foot tall Buddha's and the lines of larger than life warriers flanking the lake are spectacular. There are many pathways to walk throughout the park and each one turns up numerous statues along the route, denoting both budhist, indian and chinese dynasties.

Caldas da Rainha is the closest city and provides shopping, museums, parks, bars and restaurants.

If beaches are more your scene then Foz can provide tranquil waters for safe swimming in Obidos lagoon along with rolling waves of the atlantic ocean for the more adventurous. Other beautiful beaches can be found at Salir de Porto and Sao Martinho da Porto, all within 20 - 30 minutes drive.

Peniche is a large port which boasts lots of fantastic fish restaurants, it also has a waterpark and you can also get a boat trip to the beautiful island of Berlengo.

If go karting is your thing, there are tracks at both Bombarrell & Leira and Caldas da Rainha now has it's own indoor track..

A water park can also be found near the beach resort of Nazare.

Caldas da Rainha has a train station and coach station so if you fancy exploring Lisbon or Porto but don't want the hastle of the drive or parking in the capital citiy you can let public transport make life easy.

Lisbon Zoo is well worth a visit, the animals are well cared for and kept in well maintained, suitably adapted enclosures. You can easily spend a full day there and the Dolphin and Sea Lion show are a must.

Great place with good space and excellent layout, quiet and private. Communication with the owners was prompt useful and informative. We really enjoyed our time in this very comfortable property. Plenty to do and see providing you're willing to travel a little. Obidos was a particular highlight along with an excellent sea food lunch in Peniche. Our teenager enjoyed karting in Bombarell and we all spent a lot of time relaxing and reading around the pool. In summary an excellent stay. Thank you!

I got the opportunity to stay in this lovely home when it was reccomended to me by a friend of a friend. Myself and three other girls decided to stay for a week in September 2011. We immediately felt at home especially after a neighbour came round with a large selec tion of fruit for us!! The private garden to the rear of the house is the perfect place to sunbathe during in the day and relax on a night. During our stay we visited a number of beautiful beaches and towns and found the nightlife in Cal das de Rhaina to be only a short taxi ride away!! Overall the four of us highly enjoyed our stay and would definitely reccomend to a friend.

Jane and Mick, Just to let you know that we had a great time in your home. It was perfect! A little too perfect in fact, as we had trouble leaving the house every day - we generally found ourselves still reading books in the garden by the early afternoon! We had no problems finding the house from the directions you provided, although we did mess up at the toll booth on the way and were fined for not picking up a ticket! We will definately mention to any family or friends who are looking to book a holiday. Thank you, Carly
