Villa overview - owner's description
Town house villa, located close to seaside town of Tavira, with large shared swimming pool and sea-view terrace. Near numerous excellent beaches, bars and restaurants.
Our property lies just on the edge of the beautiful seaside town of Tavira, about a 15/20 minute downhill walk away.
The property sits within the beautiful and exclusive "Quinta do Perogil" estate, which is a unique small development of Large Villas. The house sits facing the 20m swimming pool which serves the other houses around it.
Our property also has a very large L shaped terrace from which you can have full views of the pool and gardens, but also have panoramic views over the sea. Down the other side of the terrace you also have superb views over open countryside and the mountains in the distance.
The house lies on three floors with a bedroom and bathroom on each floor. Each of the bathrooms has an excellent power shower and 900mm shower base. The middle floor bathroom as well as having a shower also has a full size bath. All 3 bathrooms have toilets/bidets.
The quality of the internal fixtures and fittings is excellent and much higher than those you would expect to see in other rental properties. This is because we also like to use the property ourselves for our main holidays.

The house and grounds are very safe and child friendly.
One of the main reasons why we bought this house was the fact that you can sit either outside the lounge or on the terrace and have full views of the pool and surrounding grounds. For those of you that have children, like most parents we like the idea of relaxing either on the terrace or outside the lounge and being able to keep an eye on the younger ones.
The grounds are mainly grassed areas which surround the very large pool which has a shallow end and is much larger that most communal pools.
The house has 3 double bedrooms with two of these having a double bed and the other one has two single beds. The house also benefits from having 3 full shower rooms. They all have excellent power showers and the middle bathroom also has a full sized bath.
The house has three floors and each floor has a bedroom and a shower room on it. The top floor bedroom has commanding views from 2 windows.
The house lies approx 15 minutes walk from the centre of Tavira and even though a car is not essential for our property having one would give guests much more freedom to explore the mainly delightful towns and seaside and fishing villages.
Spain is only about 25 minutes by car and you can even visit Seville in a little over the hour.
There are four excellent 18 hole golf courses within a few minutes of our house, and in our property we leave instructions on each course including prices and discounts etc.
However, a major plus point for the area is the construction of a new Jack Nicklaus golf course at Monte Rei which is just down the road from us. This course should be open to play in the autumn of 2007 and will bring even more golfers to the area.
Tavira and surrounding area
Tavira is often called one of the most picturesque towns on the Algarve, and it’s not hard to see why. The town is large enough to have everything you want and small enough to retain lots of charm. It is a short 15 minute walk all downhill, but therefore on the way back is all uphill!! You may need a car or the taxi home is a set fee of € 3,90.
You can explore Tavira in lots of ways, you can either hop aboard the miniature roadtrain and have a trip around town or jump into a horse drawn carriage and take a leisurely ride around. You can also take a guided walking tour of the Town. However you can walk from one side of town to the other in about 15/20 minutes, so everyone can take their own time and method.
At the centre of Tavira and on a small hill rising above the town is the castle and the landmark clock tower of Igreja da Santa Maria do Castelo. The leisure walk up to the castle is lovely and you will pass lots of quaint shops and buildings (you may even decide to sample the local beverages in one of the excellent bars that you will pass) and once at the top you will have commanding views over town and the sea.
Once in town you can choose to sit at one of the many pavement cafes and bars (my wife has a certain passion for the patisseries) and watch the world go by.
Tavira has lots of excellent restaurants and we can recommend lots either in town or in the nearby places. By and large the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. But what really makes these restaurants are that they are generally small and owner run and so you get a very warm welcome and superb service and food. Fresh seafood is in abundance and the choice is helped by most restaurants displaying today’s catch in chilled display cabinets. Meat eaters will not be forgotten however and the steaks and lamb dishes are also very good.
You can not however come to Tavira and not go on the beach, it is SUPERB. It is also very wide and miles long with lots of beach bars and activities. You can either sun bathe with lots of people around or you can walk further down the beaches to quieter areas.
If you have a car you have the freedom to visit lots of other beaches and really lovely villages and towns, some of which are Cabanas, Santa Luzia, Villa Real, Olhao, Castro Marim, Fuzeta and lots more.

We had a very pleasant stay in September 2016. The house is well equipped with just about everything needed to make it a 'home from home'
The check in was the only hiccup as there was no one at the house when we arrived, despite having advised of our early arrival because of our flight times. Once the cleaner arrived we managed to leave our cases, but had to kill time for a couple of hours which meant a walk into town to pass the time - not ideal as we'd been on the go since 4.30am and it was 33C. We called the agent a couple of times to find out about leaving the keys on departure, and also to try and get an extra set (not possible)
The terrace is a lovely feature, and we spent a lot of time there. The pool area was never busy, and is only a few steps from the house.
The area is very quiet and ideal for those looking for a very laid back holiday.
The walk into town did take slightly longer than we expected, and we never managed it in less than half an hour. We always took a taxi back from town and this usually cost 5Euros.
Tavira is a lovely area to visit, and this house makes an ideal base.
The house sits within a lovely complex which is occupied by a mix of residents and those on holiday. The house met all our needs and had everything we needed - although we didn't spend a large amount of time inside.
Given the number of houses on the complex it was never busy despite being the height of the summer holidays.
The complex gives great views of the surrounding areas sitting at the top of the hill outside of Tavira and despite us not having a car we were able to walk into town each evening for the many restaurants and also in the mornings to either catch the boat to the island beach or for breakfast.
The owner was very good in responding to any queries from the initial contact when booking the house through to last minute questions just before we arrived.
This was our first time visiting Portugal and we had one our best holidays - overall a great house in a great setting and Tavira is such a wonderful town. We will definitely look to come back soon.
Overall we were happy with our choice for our holiday. The welcome pack of food and drink in the house which is included in the price is great and does see you through until you can go shopping. A little more direction from the agent regarding how to turn on the gas for hot water would have been good as it took us a couple of days to figure it out. The walk into town isn't really a safe walk when you have young children with you or older legs so a car would really be necessary. Tavira itself is beautiful and we would recommend it. The complex where the house is located is lovely with a great pool and the house has everything in it to make it home from home.
We had a really great time and thoroughly enjoyed just lazing on the balcony.
We had a very nice stay and found the villa very homely. The welcome pack of food and wine was gratefully appreciated. The gardens and pool area was well maintained and never got too busy. I enjoyed cooling down sitting on the steps into the pool. A larger sun shade on the balcony would be of greater benefit to enable shade from the sun when dining out. The walk into Tavira for us took 25 minutes and we got a taxi back for 5 to 6 euros. In August the restaurants in Tavira got very busy, getting there early in peak season would be a recommendation. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Our Townhouse/Villa has had a luxury re-fit in June 2006 to include all new soft leather setees, beds, luxury bedding and all new linen, lamps, pictures, extra large 900mm showers and all new soft furnishings. Guests can look out from the large L shaped balcony over the pool at the front and also have views of Tavira and the sea. But also at the other side of the balcony guests have superb views over the countryside and mountains in the distance. The Pool is normally very quite and the barbaque is a fantastic addition to the Villa. See the extra pictures!
