Apartment overview - owner's description

This apartment is right in front of the sea and you can walk down to the beach in a minute. It is located at Dona Ana beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve - and only a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk from downtown Lagos.

Ideal for families and groups of friends
The apartment has a large patio right in front of the sea which is perfect for ball games. The patio is enclosed by low walls and has a large lockable gate, making it particularly safe for young children to play in. There is also a rose garden towards the side of the patio and a cactus garden in the back. The large outdoor area is perfect also for grilling food and inviting friends over to dinner with a stunning view of the sea.

The surrounding area
The apartment is part of a larger beachfront property which has been in our family for the past 50+ years, having originally started as a small fishermans cottage. We currently also rent the upstairs apartment which is a one-bedroom place with a secluded terrace and spectacular view of the sea. Both apartments have separate entrances and parking areas.

The area surrounding the property is generally pretty quiet and there are two neighborhood stores functioning year-round, as well as a small coffee shop open during the summer months. The entire property faces the sea and to one side has a tourist condo and on the other side the cliffs that go all the way to Ponta da Piedade (please check the map provided for info on the surrounding area) - however, the upstairs apartment and terrace is completely secluded from the nearby tourist condo.

PLEASE READ -- IMPORTANT INFORMATION
to book with CasaTrigoso, you must agree to the following:

  1. Please be aware that our property is a quirky old beach house and sometimes has quirky old beach house problems (sometimes the gas bottles need to be changed, the fuse may trip, and random things may break). We are a tiny mother-daughter business and we do our very best to quickly solve any issues that may arise, but prospective guests should be fully aware that our apartments are not newly built, do not have fancy stainless steel kitchens or the latest décor. If you would like a new apartment, there are plenty of wonderful options in and around Lagos that you will likely enjoy more than staying with us. If, however, you enjoy cozy old houses with stunning ocean views and plenty of character (and possibly a resident spider or two) then do consider booking with us — we will welcome you with open arms.

  2. Check-in/out: check-in is from 16:00 onwards and check-out is before 11:00. CasaTrigoso operates with self check-ins, this means that guests will let themselves in upon arrival. A few weeks before arrival, we will send guests a welcome pack containing travel directions, check-in details as well as a link for guests to submit the legally required identification information (see below). 

  3. Smoking is NOT allowed inside any of the apartments, please only smoke outdoors. 

  4. Cleaning fee: for stays under 4 nights we charge a flat-rate cleaning fee of EUR 100. We only charge a cleaning fee for these shorter stays, any stay 4 nights or above will incur no extra fees whatsoever.

  5. Key service: each booking will include ONLY ONE set of keys. When not at the apartment, please keep the keys inside the lockbox. Each time a member of staff is called out to the apartment because of lost keys / keys left inside the apartment, there will be a €30 service fee. Lost keys will incur an additional €15 charge.

  6. Additional guests: we charge EUR 20 per person per night for parties of more than six people in the garden apartment, four people in the veranda and patio apartments, and two people in the terrace apartment. 

  7. Bedding and towels: these will be provided for the number of people in your party. If you stay with us for over a week, someone will stop by on day 7 or 8 with some new linens for you and will ask for your old ones to wash. We will almost always remember to do this, but if not, please just get in touch and we'll fix it.

  8. Toilet paper, coal for the grill, etc.: we will provide enough for the first few days, but guests are responsible for purchasing their own.

  9. European Union identification law: we require that all non-Portuguese guests (including minors traveling with family) provide us with the following information: nationality, date of birth, place of birth, document type (passport, ID), document number, document country of issue, country of residence.

  10. Travel insurance: we strongly urge all guests to purchase appropriate travel insurance to cover cancellations, or to book with a credit card that includes travel insurance. Because we can offer no guarantee that cancelled bookings will be refunded in whole or in part, it is important that guests have adequate insurance.

This is a very unique property for Portugal in that it is right above the beach, with easy access via stairs. You have a great ocean view. It is located between a large apartment building and the beach parking lot so it is not secluded, but it is remarkably private. If you've ever been on vacation and looked longingly at the happy looking people in the house right next to the beach, this house is that place.

This is a very late review! We stayed at the end of summer and absolutely loved the apartment, which is exactly as described. Very clean, slightly bohemian and charming. The location could not be better, it is right above the beach. Rosa was a fantastic host, very swift communications and even managed to pull strings and book a table for us at the fabulous clifftop restaurant (out towards the lighthouse) which was booked solid until after we left! So, a great trip and we would definitely return to Rosa's apartment.

We had a great stay at this lovely location. Greatest view ever to the famous beach "praia dona ana". The apartment was cosy and we found everything we need. Perfect!! Even toys for our kids and beach equipment!
The only little thing we would mention: the nice man who took care of the garden (which is positive of course!) came into the patio every day unanounced, walking around the house, a little more privacy would have been great ;-))
We would really recommend this place and will come back!

Fabulous location just seconds from the beach. Villa was clean and very well kept. Very comfortable. Maria was excellent as she explained where the finer dining and other shopping locations were situated. Scenery amazing. So much to see and do, after 2 weeks of holidays at the villa we did not want to leave! We will be returning.

The house is really nice and good. The courtyard gives you more space to play, park the car, have dinner and expand yourself. The furniture is basic and not very beautiful (is the only part of the house that could be improved, althought for the price is reasonable), but was enough for our needs. The house was very clean and confortable. The owners live next door and are very nice. And I almost forgot: the best part of the house is the location. Is right next to the best and most beautiful beach in Algarve. Is so close that you can go to the beach barefoot. This is huge.

So, overall, I will recommend this house and come back if I have the chance.

We did not have a hard time finding the apartment once we arrived in Lagos. From the apartment it is only a short drive to the parking garage just outside of downtown Lagos. You can walk downtown from the apartment, but if you have a car the parking is inexpensive, well lit and has an attendant. We made good use of the apartment's gated parking area. We really appreciated the beach located directly in front of the apartment. It does get busy on the beach but you can always find space. We didn't need to visit the big beach on the other side of Lagos. Nearby you can also access other areas of the shoreline which have some stunning views. From the apartment it is only a 30 minute drive or so to Sagres, which has even more amazing views. The apartment itself was quite large and the 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom combination was perfect for 4 people. Although we didn't do laundry or cook at the apartment, all of the appliances seemed rather new. I can't imagine finding a better apartment located right in front of the beach. We basically had our own private resort. Thanks for the great stay!

Maria has a lovely space and she is both welcoming and charming. she met us and xplained the house, and there was even a caretaker on site in case of emergencies. all the elements were in order and the house is very cute. indeed it is directly above a beach and very near to many shops etc. however. i think it is very important to know that this house sits directly in the shadow of a giant condo / resort. this element may or may not be a concern for you?

Great Location, Nice apartmentCommunications with owner, directions, service on location were all great. The location is really fine, right above the beach and with a small coffee shop about 50 meters away. The house was very clean and the kitchen is well stocked with utensils, appliances, pots & pans, coffee maker, tea kettle, etc. Beds are very comfortable. Two bathrooms very convenient. A crib is provided for the many families that come here with small children. The sofas in the living room and on the porch could easily serve as single beds. There is a clothes washer and a dishwasher. The staff at the house are very courteous and helpful, we appreciated their assistance very much. A really good seafood restaurant a short distance away. There is a TV also, but we never used it. We were just two people, but this is a very good spot for families.

An unexpected picturesque beach front apartmentA delightful property, literally a stone's throw from the beach, and so much more authentic that the nearby apartment blocks. Lovely seafood restaurant nearby, and owner was very helpful- actually gave us the larger apartment to give us more room.I would recommend this place without reservation.

While the bottom apartment with the patio is great for families, the top apartment is ideal for couples.
