This unique and outstanding property has been restored to former glory as an old (wealthy) merchant's house- when Olhao was the major centre of fishing in Portugal. It boasts two outdoor terraces (one with garden feature and one with open air jacuzzi) from which you can enjoy fabulous views to the nearby sandbank islands and the still bustling fishing port, as well as amazing views over the old town and it's traditional cube houses. There's even storks nesting on nearby chimneys you can watch feeding their young. Whilst maintaining great character and elegance, this property has the modern conveniences of a new kitchen, two bathrooms, central heating and solar powered hot water as well as satellite TV, stereo and iPod base. Comfort, luxury, sophistication and character for discerning guests. This is really special with the best views and a great atmosphere all around you.
There are 2 bedrooms - first bedroom is En-suite with lovely restored French bed (double) and top quality mattress and then the Sun room on the terrace floor has Laura Ashley day beds - ideal for day dreaming or acts as second bedroom(converts to 2 singles or one double).
There is a guest bathroom next to the Sun room.
The kitchen is equipped with all the mod cons needed .
Solar power provides hot water and heating. There is a jacuzzi on the top terrace for your relaxation and offers great views. Because of stairs and access we do not recommend suitability for younger children.
The first terrace has pretty paved and decked area with outdoor dining. Also it has a small and sweet garden and lovely views to the islands and over the city scape. The second terrace is situated at the top and has 2/3 person bubbling jacuzzi - sun loungers and even better views to the sea and fishing port .
This property is above the house on the ground floor and also has 2 terraces- so there are staircases to negotiate which may prove difficult to less mobile people and possibly younger children.
There are beautiful unspoilt beaches close by - access from Olhao by short passenger ferry ride to 3 different sandbank islands. Other beaches are 10 minutes drive away.
Olhao fishing port and boating marina is just a 3 minutes stroll away and there is a Nature reserve close by (sea birds inc flamingos) which takes 10 minutes walk to get to.
Olhao boasts a great fruit and vegetable and fish market as well as many fresh food restaurants. It is a Portuguese town that retains its character and hasn't been changed by the tourism that has affected the Western Algarve.
Along with the traditional cube buildings from its heyday as the major fishing port, it has some lovely old churches, cobbled streets and easy access to the nearby islands. A nature reserve is on the door step - home to many rare bird species. We love the town with it's characteristic cube buldings and roof top terraces, old quaint churches, bustling market, glorious sea front promenade with it's many restaurants. There's a new municipal Theatre , just round the corner with live performances of Music (Jazz, Fado, Classical), Shows and Dance.
There's easy access to the splendid unspoilt islands and local towns along this part of the Eastern Algarve and great nature to be enjoyed. Highly recommended if you want the sea , sand, sun and character - but without the built-up package tourist bit.

Outside this house in Olhăo, AlgarveThis house is in the town but in a quiet area near the sea. It has a sea view. Car hire is recommended as the house is less than a 15 minute walk to at least a couple of shops, bars and restaurants; however parking is not available.
