The Algarve with its famous pristine beaches and micro climate offers the best year round holiday opportunities for the discerning holidaymaker. Quaint fishing ports and historic cities and villages compete for the tourists attention. Secure family beaches and the west coasts wild surfing beaches offer a broad variety of scenery and seaside activities.

Over 300 sunny days every year make the Algarve, Europes favourite holiday destination. The Serra De Monchique is the Algarve's best kept secret, founded by the Romans which provides a historic backdrop and its natural spring waters are said to rejuvenate and even lengthen our days!

Talking about Romans, it was the Romans that built the stone terraces in Villa Vida Nova's gardens. They were built to retain the excellent soil for growing vegetables and fruit to feed the Centurians and troops, these days the terraces are still there but it's not the Romans getting fat on all that fruit..................

Villa Vida Nova is available on a weekly basis, Saturday being the Check in/out days.

The Picturesque Town of Monchique

The delightful town of Monchique, which is only 2 minutes drive from the villa, has a pretty central square with street cafes in which to while away the time and people watch. There are beautiful gardens to admire and narrow historic streets to explore. By the way, parking is free everywhere in Monchique including the underground car park! There are several supermarkets for you to stock up on supplies, 3 butchers, numerous cafés and a tea room serving delicious home made food, two banks with cash points, two petrol stations, 2 chemists, wine shop, gift shops and newsagents selling foreign papers. Recently opened is the new Intermarche supermarket mall, with a selection of shops, plenty of parking and ideal to stock up your holiday provisions.

Superb Dining for all Tastes and Budgets

There are many excellent yet inexpensive local restaurants, some of the best are within walking distance of the villa. You will be tempted by the delicious regional fare, chicken piri-piri, black Iberian pork, wild boar with plums, lamb casserole, chicken with cherries, pork and prawn cataplana, stuffed squid, grilled fish, local cured ham and smoked sausage, honey and marzipan sweets just to name a few, all are locally produced. There is an amazing sellection of wines and ports to enhance your dining experience, don't forget to try the local firewater Medronho, and for the ladies, Melosa, served from a glass slipper! (You have to search for the slipper!)

The Serra da Monchique

Monchique is nestled in a valley between the only two mountains in the Algarve, Foia and Picota. The Romans who established Monchique , as mentioned above they built, with precision granite terraces all over the Serra de Monchique, you will see them everywhere. Villa Vida Nova nestles in "Corga das Ervilhas" - Terraces of Peas! Corga is an ancient word not used these days and means "Terraces". Our terraces still produce, oranges, tangerines, lemons, plums, peaches, figs, sharon fruit, grapes, olives, cherries of which our guests are welcome to eat. We have also found, various stone hand tools, a bone needle, a bronze spur, a bronze buckle and slate buttons.

There are level walks, steep walks, walks to the top of Foia and walks to the cafes in town. Bird watching is very popular as we are on a major migratory route. Cork oak forests abound and offer welcome shade from the hot summer sun, and after all that exercise kick off your shoes and cool off in the infinity pool. Wind down with a glass of local wine or ice cold beer or test your culinary skills on the BBQ.

From the villa there are many attractions within a short drive. The peaks and contour roads of Foia and Picota afford 360 degree panoramic views, don't forget your camera! For the more adventurous, take some of the side roads and visit deserted watermills or the ghost village of Barbelote with its stunning cascade. The mountains here are quite spectacular and not to be missed ideal for the biker, hiker or just a casual stroll.

Local Spas and Wellness Centre.

The famous village of Caldas de Monchique with its health spa and wellness center is only 10 minutes drive away here you can take in the famous Monchique spring waters and enjoy being pampered in the health salons at either Hotel Termas de Monchique or Longevity Wellness Centre. In summer in the evening, you can listen to local live music whilst dining in the Caldas de Monchique square at Restaurant 1692.

A Short Drive Away.

There are several golf courses, the nearest just 15 minutes drive away, and the new Autodromo do Algarve, F1 designed race track, features various motorsport events and track days and if you are up to it, a stunning go kart track open to the public. The busier tourist areas of the south coast and the town of Portimao with shopping malls, night life, sardine restaurants, sandy beaches and marina is just 25 minutes away. Take a boat trip from Portimao or Lagos to watch the dolphins in their natural habitat.

Shopping in Nearby Portimao.

Portimao has now surpassed Faro to become the shopping mecca of the Algarve and is just 20 minutes drive from Monchique. Boasting the largest shopping mall on the Algarve, Aqua Portimao is situated just 20 minutes drive from Monchique, on three floors with 117 shops, restaurants and a hypermarket, again parking is free. There is an excellent choice including many big names such as Primark, H & M, Zara, Foot Locker, Mango, Massimo Dutti and much more. It is open daily from 0900 to 2400. Reviewed 23 May 2013 for a stay in July 2012 We enjoy private and quiet surroundings for our holidays and certainly found it at Villa Vida Nova. A fantastic villa where everything fits the description and pictures shown. Magnificent views, beautiful pool and relaxing area outside and the village of Monchique is authentic, relaxed and still has a great supermarket making everything easy.

Reviewed 28 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013 Everything that we had seen on the website prior to booking this holiday villa was a very good representation of what to expect. The property is stunning, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay in the Monchique mountains. The villa is modern and spacious, and we can think of hardly anything that hadnt been thought of. The outside area is also beautiful, and swimming in the infinity pool while taking in the gorgeous scenery, with views down to the Algarve coast is breathtaking. We enjoyed eating at the O Luar restaurant, which is a couple of minutes away by car, or about 10 minutes walk up some very steep hills. Lovely food there. About 5 minutes drive away on the outskirts of Monchique is a very well stocked and modern supermarket, which youll find most things that you could possibly need. We also visited the Ochala tea room in the town, which served lovely carrot cake! Stay here, and you will definitely not be disappointed!

Reviewed 2 weeks ago for a stay in October 2013 The villa is well maintained with beautiful views, it is a fantastic location nestled in the Monchique mountains which is close to ammenities but far enough away from the tourist areas to enjoy the real Portugal.

We thought your villa was very good, in a very quiet location overseeing the valley down to the coast. The pool and BBQ area was private and secluded, with plenty of space to eat outside. The kitchen was fully equipped with all you would need for a full dinner, and we enjoyed access to home TV channels on the few nights it rained. It was not far up to the local restaurant, which we enjoyed a few nights, although we did drive after walking the first night. We went out of season and caught a few misty damp days, but we found the drive to the coast was easy from the villa. You definitely need a car here, but the plus is the peace quiet and tranquility. We have stayed in many villas throughout Europe and this is by far one of the finest. The villa itself is finished to a very high standard, and is very comfortable. The attention to detail throughout the villa has been very thoughtfully done. It is set in a very peaceful and private location with plenty of outdoor space where you can sit down and enjoy a meal and take in the wonderful views and atmosphere. We loved staying here and travelling throughout Monchique and the Algarve and will be returning soon.AN UK

Our friends recommended Villa Vida Nova to us, so we booked. It was the best decision we could have made and the best holiday we have had in a long time. We have stayed in Villas that are sparsely furnished and equipped, not this one, the beds and linen are top class, the kitchen has more than enough of everything, we also used the BBQ most days, the infinity pool is awesome, the natural spring complete with fish, intriguing. We stayed in 2012 and have reserved again in 2013. AS UK

Absolutely fantastic Algarve Villa. Of all the Algarve villas to rent I think we chose very well. The house is everything the website says it is and more. We have stayed in other holiday rental homes or villas in Portugal for more than 20 years and this is by far the best. The location and views are superb, this is the "Real Portugal". The house is truly luxurious and very well equipped, we are back again this year. DS UK

We did a search for a villa to rent in Portugal and found this one! Of all the private villas in Portugal this has to be the best. We have rented through many different agencies over the years in various locations but never felt really satisfied, there was always something wrong or something that could be improved. Then we discovered the Villa Vida Nova website, we had never booked directly before always with an agent. We were impressed and booked, everything went smoothly. Nigel held our weeks while we searched for flights, that was easy, then we arranged holiday insurance through one of his suggestions. When we arrived at the villa everything was ready and what a surprise, the villa turned out to be much more than expected. The quality of everything was far better than we have ever had before through an agency. The town of Monchique is gorgeous, its how we imagined Portugal to be but had never found it and the local restaurants are superb. We have recommended this villa to all of our friends and we will book again for the same time next year. There are no ratings on Villas, I would definitely give this a 5 star. GB UK

Looking to rent a high-quality yet affordable holiday villa in a quieter part of the Algarve, we stumbled across the website for Villa Vida Nova. Instantly captivated by the lovely photographs and descriptions of the extensive facilities and rural location, we made e-mail contact with the owners (Nigel & Bev) and were pleased to receive prompt, friendly and useful feedback, helping lay to rest any concerns we had about booking “blind”. Whilst the website photos are certainly appealing, they fail fully to capture the reality and we had a wonderful week’s holiday at Villa Vida Nova, which proved to be so comfortable, well-equipped and superbly located that it guaranteed a deeply relaxing and peaceful break. We loved the space, both inside and out, and the luxury touches: the fabulous pool and shady terrace, fully-equipped kitchen, air conditioning throughout, free wi-fi and satellite TV. The position is certainly rural, but not remote, and within just a few minutes’ drive of the pleasant town of Monchique and its well-stocked supermarkets (especially a new Intermarche store on the edge of town). The IC4/A22 toll motorway is but another 20 minutes’ drive through lovely countryside, providing rapid access to great coastal locations to the east or west, including Alvor, Lagos and Praia da Luz. We enjoyed the holiday so much that we booked for the following year shortly after returning home we are now looking forward to our third successive visit this coming summer! NT UK

We stayed at Villa Vida Nova for 2 weeks during July 2012 and had a fantastic time. My husband and I plus our 3 boys age 13, 15 and 17 just fell in love with the house, the outdoor area, the magnificent view, the beautiful and authentic village of Monchique and not least the peace and quiet. We arrived on a Saturday and by Sunday afternoon, we felt like we had had a week off from work already. Monchique has a great supermarket, so we prepared a lot of meals using the bbq area and it was so stress less. A few weeks after our return, we booked 3 weeks for the Summer 2013 and we just can’t wait to come back. BD Denmark

Originally I am from the UK and my wife from Canada. We have lived in the UK, Africa and Portugal for many years but now live in BC Canada and spend our winters at the villa in Portugal, best of both worlds! Having been in the Hospitality Business for many years we decided to put these skills to use in the renting of our Villa and for the past 5 years have seen almost 100% Occupancy Rates, Thank you to all our Clients! We were in the business of building villas for expat's and so we chose to build this one using our years of experience and putting our dreams into action. We chose this location because of the spectacular views and that the area is unspoiled by tourism, yet we are just a short drive to the best beaches, golf courses, shopping, airport and some of the most inspiring scenery in Portugal.
