Villa Costa is a large, modern, open plan villa, with all the facilities you could want. The bedroom are large and have ample wardrobe space ad extra blankets if required. It is located up a hill in the suburbs of Funchal which means necessitates a lengthy, walk, bus or taxi ride into the centre. We walked down but used taxis to get back. The hills are very steep in places and certainly give your calves a workout, (definitely not for the less mobile). The location would not suit everyone as it is quite far from the main tourist areas and restaurants, but we liked that we were away from the hustle and bustle and it was very quiet at night. We didn't need alarm clocks as the owner's cockerel began calling at 6:45 each morning, but you soon get used to it. Speaking of the owners, they really couldn't have been more helpful. They booked taxis for us to meet us at the airport and take us back on our return, and even took us, in their own car, to the Madeira Shoppong centre. We were there for the flower festival in April and she gave us advice on when and where to go for the best views, which was very helpful. All in all, a very nice place to stay and Madeira is a very nice place to visit. i would recommend that you do the island tours as there are so many beautiful things to see. We did the West tour, the East tour, (by jeep) and the Nun's Valley tour - a bit full on, but that's just us.

We enjoyed an amazing holiday at Villa Costa, so much so that we didnt want to leave at the end of our stay. The apartment and gardens are stunning with spectacular views. The Costa family are excellent hosts, on hand to help whenever needed and they kindly gave us a gift of bananas from their garden which were delicious. We chose not to hire a car and we easily travelled around using local buses, taxis and walking. We highly recommend this fabulous property and we will certainly be going back there again.

The villa is a spacious detached property situated in a residential area of Funchal approx 1mile from the main centre. It is in immaculate condition and the rooms are even larger than they appear on the photos. There is a large terrace to the front with seating areas and fabulous views of the hillside towards Monte.Entrance is via the owners property which is directly below separated by a beautifully attended garden full of a multitude of tropical plants , ornaments and small pond. The house is on the hillside so there are several flights of relatively steep steps to negotiate. The owner and her family are exceptionally helpful and friendly and genuinely want you to have a good holiday. There are flats to 1 side of the property and another set across the road which block views of the harbour but they dont feel intrusive. The main downstairs area is open plan with a dining area , lounge and 2nd seating area with games and free wi-fi.The kitchen is well stocked with utensils,kettle,toaster,fridge/freezer,microwave,proper oven, electric hob, marble worktops and breakfast bar. There is also a washing machine in the rear utility area and a downstairs toilet.Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms (2 double and 1 twin). The larger double has an en-suite bathroom whilst there is also a separate family bathroom. All 3 bedrooms have balconies with great views of the valley looking east. All the floors upstairs are wooden and downstairs are tiled. The beds are made up with sheets and duvets with spare blankets in the wardrobes. At night the area is incredibly quiet with no traffic noise and yet you are only 100 yards from a main road. There is a regular bus service into Funchal and also up to the Madeira Shopping outlet. The bus journey into the centre is approx 10 minutes whilst the walk is about 20 minutes downhill and a bit longer coming back ! Taxi one way is approx 6 euros whilst the bus is 1.35 per journey per person. If you hire a car (recommended) then there is parking at the front of the property. If you need a taxi then the owner will arrange for it to be waiting for you when you arrive at the airport. There is a very good small mini mart just around the corner along with a bakery/cafe and pizzeria.Madeira Shopping with its wide range of shops, cafes and cinema is about 5 mins by car and 10mins by bus. We had a lovely time at the villa and it represents excellent value for money when you compare what you have to pay for a hotel room of the equivalent standard. The only drawback is that the property doesnt have any heating. We had a few days of cloud and drizzle to begin with and you really notice how cold it can get inside without any heat source. However if you go in the summer then this shouldnt be an issue.Overall this villa is a great base from which to explore the island with very friendly and helpful owners on hand to help should you need it.

We stayed at this tastefully decorated modern Villa Costa for two weeks in June and were very happy with it. We most definitely would return and hope to do so one day. Susie and Mum (naomi, hope I spelled that right) was most helpful and kept us up to date with any local events that were going on. We must thank you for the fireworks display in Funchal for our Ruby Wedding Aniversarry LOL. I feel it must be said that there is quite a number of steps up from the street so perhaps elderly or disabled might have a problem.
