We enjoyed an amazing holiday at Villa Costa, so much so that we didnt want to leave at the end of our stay. The apartment and gardens are stunning with spectacular views. The Costa family are excellent hosts, on hand to help whenever needed and they kindly gave us a gift of bananas from their garden which were delicious. We chose not to hire a car and we easily travelled around using local buses, taxis and walking. We highly recommend this fabulous property and we will certainly be going back there again.

The villa is a spacious detached property situated in a residential area of Funchal approx 1mile from the main centre. It is in immaculate condition and the rooms are even larger than they appear on the photos. There is a large terrace to the front with seating areas and fabulous views of the hillside towards Monte.Entrance is via the owners property which is directly below separated by a beautifully attended garden full of a multitude of tropical plants , ornaments and small pond. The house is on the hillside so there are several flights of relatively steep steps to negotiate. The owner and her family are exceptionally helpful and friendly and genuinely want you to have a good holiday. There are flats to 1 side of the property and another set across the road which block views of the harbour but they dont feel intrusive. The main downstairs area is open plan with a dining area , lounge and 2nd seating area with games and free wi-fi.The kitchen is well stocked with utensils,kettle,toaster,fridge/freezer,microwave,proper oven, electric hob, marble worktops and breakfast bar. There is also a washing machine in the rear utility area and a downstairs toilet.Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms (2 double and 1 twin). The larger double has an en-suite bathroom whilst there is also a separate family bathroom. All 3 bedrooms have balconies with great views of the valley looking east. All the floors upstairs are wooden and downstairs are tiled. The beds are made up with sheets and duvets with spare blankets in the wardrobes. At night the area is incredibly quiet with no traffic noise and yet you are only 100 yards from a main road. There is a regular bus service into Funchal and also up to the Madeira Shopping outlet. The bus journey into the centre is approx 10 minutes whilst the walk is about 20 minutes downhill and a bit longer coming back ! Taxi one way is approx 6 euros whilst the bus is 1.35 per journey per person.
If you hire a car (recommended) then there is parking at the front of the property. If you need a taxi then the owner will arrange for it to be waiting for you when you arrive at the airport. There is a very good small mini mart just around the corner along with a bakery/cafe and pizzeria.Madeira Shopping with its wide range of shops, cafes and cinema is about 5 mins by car and 10mins by bus.
We had a lovely time at the villa and it represents excellent value for money when you compare what you have to pay for a hotel room of the equivalent standard. The only drawback is that the property doesnt have any heating. We had a few days of cloud and drizzle to begin with and you really notice how cold it can get inside without any heat source. However if you go in the summer then this shouldnt be an issue.Overall this villa is a great base from which to explore the island with very friendly and helpful owners on hand to help should you need it.

I would highly recommend this property as the Villa is beautiful, relaxing and has everything you could possibly need. On arrival a taxi was arranged for us and we were met with warmth and warmth in the hot sun sense. :-) The villa is beautiful and tastefully decorated and has all the little added touches such as music, books and games should you fancy a night in, also there is information on excursions and things to do. Locally there is a couple of shops and a bar that does the best chicken (however unfortunately we didnt get to taste that) BUT Cafe pizza pizzas yummy. Very easy to go into Funchal ...10 minute bus ride. Madeira is truly beautiful and we had the most relaxing time. The gardens around the villa added character and colour and susanna, naomi, mamma and papa were trully a pleasure to meet. The cake was a truly thoughtful gesture and on leaving I felt like we had blessed with meeting some wonderful people. Would highly recommend this villa and as this was our first holiday together we couldnt have wished for more. xxx

We stayed at this tastefully decorated modern Villa Costa for two weeks in June and were very happy with it. We most definitely would return and hope to do so one day. Susie and Mum (naomi, hope I spelled that right) was most helpful and kept us up to date with any local events that were going on. We must thank you for the fireworks display in Funchal for our Ruby Wedding Aniversarry LOL.
I feel it must be said that there is quite a number of steps up from the street so perhaps elderly or disabled might have a problem.
A beautiful address. If youre staying in Funchal this is the place to be for a big group or family.
Splendid villa and very friendly and helpful welcome.

What an understated advert I must say, spending 2 weeks in this amazing property was better than I could have expected. The house was perfect, exactly like it was in the pictures and completely spotless.
If you’re looking for a 5 star hotel but don’t want to pay the stupid hotel prices (came up at £2500 for me for 2 weeks for 2 people), or you want to have more room and enough breathing space for 3 - 4 couples comfortably then this is the perfect place. I chose to stay in this property over the hotel because I enjoy cooking and I didn’t want to go out for dinner every night.
Ill just bullet point out the best bits
2. Suzy is a great Landlady, we had family over and she didn’t have any complaints and even joined us for a BBQ on Tuesday, when you invite her get her to make her cheesecake :D
3. Bathrooms were amazing, Lovely shower, lovely bathroom, spotlessly clean, no mould at all anywhere (unlike most hotels).
4. Rocky the dog :D, I spent 2 weeks trying to get him to play with me but he’s a little chicken, cute dog though.
5. Huge BBQ available on the terrace for you to use, it was big enough for me to do dinner for 15 people on it.
6. TV has cable and a number of English programs on it (albeit with subtitles, but it’s not England is it)
7. Suzy couldn’t do enough to help us, she called us cabs, recommended where to go, pointed out dinner options and even told us about seasonal events (firework competition)
8. Far enough out of Funchal to be pleasantly quiet but close enough for a 7 euro cab journey.
9. Huge kitchen with a great stove and oven.
10. Washing machine out the back which is very handy, it’s normally pretty hot so clothes will dry quickly.
11. Really, Really close to Madeira Shopping, you can walk it but I recommend the 4 euro cab. It’s pretty much uphill all the way. However you have the superstore there where you can do your weekly shopping and get drinks/breakfast etc etc.
12. You can walk around in your dressing gown and go and get a coffee from your huge kitchen, sit on your huge terrace and drink it whilst sitting in your swing seat checking out the views of funchal… Much better than having to have a shower in a cramped room, getting fully dressed and then waiting in a queue like a lemming at a busy Hotel breakfast room.
I really can’t give this property enough praise, I was so surprised when I got it for the price I did, I expected there to be something wrong but no, nothing at all, it was perfect
