The harbour is lined with tavernas, bars, and restaurants and is filled with colourful fishing boats. Look for freshly caught seafood or traditional Greek dishes like souvlaki (tender meat cuts) and moussaka.

The Sacred Monastery of Arkadi is about a 30-minute drive from Rethymno if you want to venture further afield.
The holy site is a tranquil haven of golden stone structures and flower-filled courtyards.
You can walk through fields and meadows to the village of Pikris and have lunch there.
