The original house dates back to the 1400s though much of the original building was re-built in the 18th-century, creating the stunning example of Neoclassical design we see today.
This expansive home can sleep between 16-22 guests across twelve en suite bedrooms. There will be plenty of space for everyone in this U-shaped home, the east-wing in particular has a fantastic 62m2 grand salon where everyone can spend evenings together before retreating to their own bedrooms. The home also has a number of smaller living spaces for when you wish for a little privacy and you will even discover a fantastic air-conditioned games room on the first floor.
The château sits in 8 hectares of private grounds filled with ancient trees, lawns and native plants that blend seamlessly with the surrounding countryside. Whether you wish to sit in the sun and enjoy a good book or dine al-fresco you are sure to want to spend lots of time outdoors in the beautiful gardens. If you are feeling a little more active you can swim in the inviting pool or try your hand at boules and croquet!
Though the home is a rural idyll, you will not be isolated as there are two lovely villages close by. Moirax is under 6km away and is dominated by the 11th century Cluniac Priory which is an incredible protected monument. There are also a number shops and eateries in the village including Auberge Le Prieuré which is a Michelin-starred restaurant in a historic building.
Another nearby village to discover is Laplume which is just 5.5km away and has a few shops and hosts regular farmers markets. You can also enjoy great views from the village or join a number of hiking and cycling routes from here including a botanical walk.
If you would like a wider selection of shops and restaurants then you are perfectly placed for visiting the city of Agen which is a mere 15km away. Agen has had a long and interesting history as it has been settled 11 times since 200BC by different groups before being returned to French control. Lots of the city is easy to explore on foot, so you can wander through the cobbled back streets and spot half-timber framed houses before popping in to some of the local artisan shops. The Musée des Beaux-Arts which is a fine art museum and the enchanting Saint-Caprais cathedral are some of the must-see sights.
