Plus Villa Rentals

Villa 6 is billed thus 'If you are searching for peace and solitude, you will find your tranquility here.' It couldn't have been more wrong. We arrived to find the next door property has ongoing and lengthy rebuilding work taking place. This starts at 7AM and involves a lot of drilling, tile cutting using a grinder, rendering and painting the outside plus general construction noise as new extensions are being built. On top of that we were overlooked by the men working there which made us feel like fish in a bowl. Photos have been left on our review on Google.

At the time of booking and until after we complained to the local agent who are Plus Villa Rentals the listing mentioned construction work opposite taking place in February, it has since been revised to mention the current work next door (we have saved copies of the original webpage). The original construction work was nothing to do with next door (it was a pool being dug in a villa opposite) so the rental company and booking sites chose to hide this information from anyone booking. Even in our Whatsapp messages from PVR prior to our arrival no one told us about the building work and given public parking is outside the villa it's impossible not to notice it. After visiting their office in Protaras we were given a small part refund as way of compensation but it didn't make up for the disturbance which on most days had us vacate after breakfast until 4PM when the builders left for the day. The only quiet day during our stay was Sunday when they didn't work. As if all this wasn't bad enough everything outside had been coated in a layer of dust from the tile cutting and now spots of render and whitewash. Had we known all these details at the time of booking we would never booked this place.

On to the villa, the location is good overlooking the sea, it's roomy and the bedrooms are comfortable and cool with minimal AC required. Downstairs open plan living area looks out on to a covered patio area with most of that side being sliding doors. It would have been nice to enjoy this facility but the noise and dirt prevented it for most of our stay. The kitchen is fitted with the appliances required for a stay but everything else seems to be a random collection of bits, no full set of pans, a variety of crockery but seemingly never enough for a villa that sleeps seven, even the table only seats six. Watch the kettle, it's an automatic one that doesn't switch off, burned fingers on our first day. We couldn't find a hairdryer either which is unusual for a villa of this standard.

This is also the first villa we've stayed in where there has been no spare consumables like bin liners or even loo roll so an early trip to the supermarket will be required. We had a quick look at the television, there's a streaming box that gives a selection of local and international channels but don't expect premium channels like some places offer.

The pool is a nice size but there's no shallow end, it's a uniform 1.45M deep for its length, actually it's generally lower than that because it leaks so we had to top it up a few times during our stay, the pool cleaners confirmed the leak is in part of the filtration system. The pool steps are very rickety and feel like they could give way at any moment. The outside furniture is tired and the sun beds are dirty with what looks like mildew. Given how this place is marketed the small wooden table and benches really aren't up to the job. Everything around the patio and pool areas need power washing and the fabrics replacing.

We had planned on staying on for an extra couple of days but we cancelled and checked into a local hotel for the remainder of the holiday to get away from the noise and the dirt. We left feeling like we'd been cheated out of what should have been a relaxing holiday, the small amount of money offered as compensation added up to one day of the rental which ironically was the same length of time we got to enjoy the place. If you are booked into this villa for 2021 expect more of the same because the construction work is a long way from being finished.

This villa does have the potential to be a quiet retreat with a lovely view but unless the 2022 pricing is more realistic and the adjacent building work is completed we won't be coming back to find out, it wasn't good value for money this year and next year is ridiculously over priced for what's on offer. We've been coming to Cyprus for over 10 years and this is by far the worst experience we've had all thanks to the local agent.
