Villa Mataki is part of the Ideales resort, this is a small complex of about 6-8 villas (I think). Within 5 minutes walking distance is a restaurant and probably about a 10 -15 minute walking distance are other restaurants and a small shop. I would say a car is essential in order to be able to get to and from the villa for supermarkets shops and sight seeing. The villa is exactly as described - one tiny point is that the upstairs bedroom is sort of a mezzanine floor and there is no door at the top of the stair case - therefore if people are in the lounge/kitchen area it can be heard upstairs. This is a small issue and it didn't really effect us. The pool was cleaned daily, the villa cleaned twice a week with new towels and lined provided. Communication with Lila was excellent - practically immediate responses to emails. Would definitely recommend.

There were more villas between our villa and the sea than the property pics and information suggested. The villa next door was also in closer proximity than the pictures suggested (we had very quiet neighbours, fortunately). The pool was adequate but could have been bigger and deeper. This were the only negatives. Otherwise I would have rated the property Excellent. However, the property was spacious, well appointed, in a quiet location with beautiful views and the local cleaning and maintenance staff were very attentive. Despite the usual Mediterranean chest beating to be found on Kefalonian roads, it is sadly necessary to have a car if you stay at Ideales Resort. There are nice beaches nearby and even in peak season we found Lourdas beach was not crowded. Kaminia is the best beach within a 35 minute drive, although Kaminia Kantina "cafe" is definitely not recommended. There is a much better taverna further down the Kaminia beach track. Kefalonia does not have a wealth of things to do away from the beach. The two cave trips are 15-20 minutes max. The Argosotoli Archaelogy museum is 25 mins max. We hired a motor boat from Lourdas but there was not much to see in terms of coves or wrecks and we were advised to stay within Lurdas bay as the sea is choppy outside (true, we tried!). There are a few other diversions but basically in summer you come here for the beaches. The taverna menues are mostly identical (tapas, kebabs, mousaka, burgers, spaghetti dishes, grilled and unfilleted fish) although generally of reasonable quality (the one below Ideales is good and so is Deep Blue Sea in Lourdas). Robolo wine is reasonable when chilled. Beware several tavernas and petrol stations do not take credit cards and do not tell you this until AFTER you have eaten, taken petrol. Cash is king, here.
