About

My wife Kay and I are landlords for students and young professionals around the Leeds area. We discovered south east Crete about 5 years ago and in a moment of madness bought a 4000m2 plot of land which is now the location of Villa Danae. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do (when we get the chance!)

The villa was gorgeous - remote and peaceful! Just what we had hoped for and more. There were only 4 of us, so we had more than enough space and Chrisa from the resort looked after us really well. The pool was well looked after and had plenty of seating places around it to suit every taste (sunbeds, shady places etc) and the view from the villa was beautiful in all directions. A car is a must, but that's to be expected as the villa is out of town. Makry Gialos is a lovely little town with everything you need. I highly recommend the bugazza (cream pies) and tyropita (cheese pies) from Takis and Voula's patisserie. Dragon's Cave is a fabulous taverna - try the meze starter for 2 or 4 - as is Gusto down in the town, right on the sea front. And we had a great couple of days out to Ierapetra and Sitia as well as Eloundas, Spinalonga and Plaka. We didn't spend any time at the beach but it wasn't needed with such a perfect pool. We were sad to leave and hope to return one day.

"Fabulous" It was the most fantastic villa, just the right size for us (10), with 5 double bedrooms (3 en suite). The pool was great, and the outside furniture particularly good. Views tremendous. The beach at Makrygialos is perfect for teenagers with excellent watersports (€20 for jet skiing, compared to the 50 we paid in Malta earlier in the year). Not too crowded – always sun beds available, soft sand, mild surf and sea not too deep or too shallow. Tavernas on the beach serving food and drinks. Our every days were so good no one could be bothered to go on any trips!Brock

“Stunning villa, view, location, people, food ...everything stunning” Priya K - London - July 2011 We stayed for 10 days and felt at home from the minute we arrived & well looked after by Anja. Thanks to Steve & Kay the villa has EVERYTHING you could need!! Cannot fault it! The pictures are beautiful... but the reality is even better! There were 6 people in our party and not once did we feel under each others feet. The area is VERY quiet (which is just what we wanted), a car is much needed if you want to explore, sight see and get away from the more popular beaches (which were still quiet)... its a fair walk to local shops in 34degree heat! When not lounging by the pool we found beautiful quiet coves, explored monasteries & had a lovely dinner at the Dragons Cave restaurant and even had the a local chef come and cook us a meal in our villa. Recommend the trip to Chrisi Island.... the golden beach is AMAZING!

“A wonderful experience I hope to repeat one day!” The villa is welcoming, comfortable, spacious, light, airy, and extremely well appointed and beautifully furnished everywhere. The kitchen and dining/BBQ areas want for nothing. Wall to wall sun for almost two weeks helped. Lovely pool, variety of outside areas, both in and out of the sun and super views. Plenty of useful information, maps, books and DVDs in the villa. The owners seem to have thought of everything. Makrigialos is a delightful little village with a great variety of good restaurants, pastry shop, bars and beaches with shade. The locals made us very welcome. Interesting countryside, bays and beaches. Plenty for everyone to do whether lounging by the pool or wandering through gorges, coastal towns and Cretan villages. Super!!
