If you want a break away from a hectic lifestyle, this is the place to stay. We found Stables Cottage barn conversion to be very well equipped, spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable, a real home away from home. Abbeycwmhir is a quiet village and is described as a “remote historic village hidden away in the Cambrian mountains, virtually undiscovered by the modern world”. Pretty well sums it up. The satellite Wifi seems to be a bit weather dependent, but we found it more reliable than we experienced in Dublin. The ruins of the 13th century Abbeycwmhir Abbey, the 19th century neo-Byzantine St. Mary’s Church and the spectacular Abbeycwmhir Hall are all easy walking distance from the Stables. This is the first time we’ve stayed in a self-catering cottage as we invariably book BnB’s and hotels when holidaying. After our stay here, this practice may well change.
A word of caution for overseas visitors, roads into Abbeycwmhir are narrow, so keep well to the left and be prepared to stop to allow cars to squeeze by. I’m a cautious driver and managed to cope with the challenge. If I can, anyone can.
