Overview

Riad de la Mer is an 18th century Jewish merchant’s house situated in the oldest part of the Medina, known as the kasbah. Recently restored with the addition of modern facilities, it nevertheless retains the rich character of the original house.

This is one of the best located riads in Essaouira, with stunning panoramic views from the terrace which immediately overlooks the sea and port beyond, there is the massive sweep of the entire bay. Just a few paces from the heart of the town, Place Moulay Hassan with all its bustling cafes and restaurants, this is nevertheless a house which offers a great sense of tranquillity and – with its 130 sq. metres per floor - considerable space.

During the day the rooms are sunny, light and airy due to a central light well, but in the evenings one can equally well cosy up to a log fire in either of the two salons. The first two floors are traditionally decorated with many period items – chandeliers, antique beds and textiles – with the very high ceilings also representing an unusual feature. On the third floor, a more modern character prevails: the colour white becomes predominant, as does simplicity of décor, and one becomes aware of sky, seagulls, waves. The views from the terrace, which is not overlooked, are quite simply magnificent .

Summary:

One of the best located riads in Essaouira - convenient for all amenities and enjoying stunning views from the terrace of the sea, port and beach.

This Riad is beautifully situated and very comfortable. Saida, the housekeeper works extremely hard and is a very good cook. Her husband Abdul is very helpful when hes around. There are an awful lot of stairs but the views from the terrace are spectacular although a few comfortable loungers would be a great bonus. As we rented the entire Riad with two families, it was perfect. We had no water for two days which was boring but no fault of the Riads and just very typical of Morocco.

Riad de la Mer is the perfect base for exploring the Medina, the souks and the harbour area of Essaouira. The views of the port from the roof terrace at breakfast were stunning. The Riad itself is a lovely balance of original features and local furnishings. The maid was unobtrusively efficient and the concierge was very helpful with our late arrival and on the one occasion when we needed his help he arrived promptly and solved our problem quickly. If ever we visit Essaouira again we will certainly hope to rebook.

The Riad was definitely good value for money. I have paid much more to stay in hotels that were nowhere near as nice! It exceeded all of our expectations. We looked all over the internet for photos of the rooms and we found when we got there that the photos do not do them justice at all! The rooms look smaller from the phots than they actually are. They are all more than adequately sized and beautifully decorated. One negative point, (if you could even call it that) is that there are lots of steps! They were also quite steep I found. This would not make a difference if just hiring one or two rooms but we hired the whole riad and were on the bottom floor so it was a long way to our friends on the top! Definitely not suitable for the disabled. The descriptions I found were accurate, I defintely got everything I was excepting and more. I would recommend this Riad to anyone. It is superbly located right in the middle of the medina, seconds from the beach, shops, restaurants etc. We were more than adequately looked after during our stay, Saide and Adbul brought us a lovely breakfast every morning and seemed to make our beds without us ever noticing they were there! We hardly saw them during the day so never felt pressured to leave our rooms or anything, yet the beds were always perfectly made when we returned! My only negative comments are about the holiday in general rather than the Riad. There are no bars, and sometimes the shop owners can be a little pressurizing when asking you to come into their shop. But this is no worse than being on a package holiday and being hassled by brits to enter a bar or club! The beach was a little too windy to sunbathe, and although there were things to do, it wouldnt suit someone seeking an action packed holiday. However, there are lots of sights to see, lots of culture, lovely food, very friendly people and the shops are full of amazing, super cheap things so save some weight in your suitcase! A brilliant, brilliant holiday! Would definitely go again.

This house is really beautifully renovated, with due respect given to the lovely period features and an excellent eye for decoration. The finishes are really a class above those used in most of the other riads Ive seen in Essaouira (and Ive seen a few!) and the owner, Diane, has a really lovely aesthetic sense. Saida and Abdul Rahman, who take care of the house, are wonderful, patient, and helpful people. They took care of us incredibly well while we were there. I cant recommend this place highly enough! On top of all of that, the location is as good as it gets in Essaouira right off the main square, with an amazing view of the port from the terrace. This place is lovely, well cared for, and feels like a home away from home. Ill be back as soon as I can. K.S.
“Completely gorgeous!” After much research I decided to stay at Riad de la Mer and I definitely was not disappointed, when I saw our room I wanted to cry as it was so beautiful, I felt like I was in a photo shoot for Elle Decoration! Diane (the owner) is from the UK, she was quick to respond to our booking enquiry and gave us plenty of useful information about the riad and Essouira in general. We arranged to meet Abdul the caretaker, who took us to the Riad which is near the front of the town down a dark alley/tunnel, I must admit that I felt a bit apprehensive as it was so dark, but once inside there is a colourful tiled court yard with several communal rooms such as a kitchen, salon and large dining room. Looking up to the sky there are 3 floors above you which have a separate beautiful apartment on each floor, filled with gorgeous antiques, and nicknacks such as vintage kaftans on the walls and huge gilt mirrors. Each apartment is completely different. We had asked for the salon on the rooftop, which is like a mini apartment separate from the main one, the stairs are very steep, but the climb is well worth it! Our room was clean and bright in shades of cream and white, there was a cute tiled wet room off the bedroom and separate lounge area with a fireplace (I could imagine that it would be fab to be there in the winter when you could get cosy by the fire) there was a welcolme fridge and kettle in the room. The place was filled with unusual bits and pieces which I loved as it was so homely and very different to anywhere I have stayed before. Saida the maid (and Aduls wife) made us gorgeous breakfasts every morning with freshly squeezed orange juice, lovely coffee and fresh bread with homemade jams etc This place would be perfect for a large group of friends to stay together but at the same time having the privacy of individual apartments. It would be a great place for a party, or for New Year Eve for example, and the communal areas would be perfect to socialise and eat together. In all, It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed! I hope that I get to stay there again some day and at £47 a night for our room an absolute bargain. D.M., Manchester
“just perfect!” We have visited Essouira many times and stayed in many different riads and hotels but this was just perfect. As a party of 8 we really apreciated having space to meet together on the wonderful roof and ground floor, but opportunity for privacy with personal facilities on each of the four other floors. This place has a wonderful atmosphere, it is peaceful, serene, calming and comfortable with enough authenticity to leave us in doubt that we were in an ancient medina, but without too much plush opulence - we could imbibe rich colours, tastes, smells and sights outside the doors of our haven! Clean, fresh, with historic tiles and woodwork, beautifully chosen Essaouiran artifacts and delightful and efficent staff, this is a riad I would recommend to everyone!
“Would love to have stayed longer” This is a gorgeous riad, beautifully decorated and well-positioned. We stayed for 2 nights only and wished we had a week or more. We had the room on the top floor which was really bright and sunny and had its own access to a private roof terrace. The bathroom is located down a short flight of stairs and has low head room - not a problem for us but might be if you are 6 ft. We found it really cute. There are a lot of stairs to climb, something to be aware of if you are unfit. Breakfast on the roof terrace is a must as there are great views of the port and fishing harbour and its lovely to sit in the sun and take in the views. Friends we were travelling with stayed on the first floor which meant that they actually had an apartment to themselves, two bedrooms, a bathroom and use of the kitchen. This would be great for a family.
“An absolute gem, highly recommended!” We travelled as two couples to Essaouira and stayed for 5 nights in this gorgeous riad. From the booking process onwards, everything was smooth sailing - Diane, the riad owner, based in the UK, gave us lots of helpful information and was prompt and pleasant to deal with in booking the riad. She recommended a fab taxi driver, Abdul, who picked us up from the airport and drove us (very carefully, unlike some Moroccan drivers!) to the riad in his very cool and retro 1980s Mercedes sedan with great musical accompaniment, including Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Dire Straits and Tracy Chapman! Maybe not everyones taste, but we loved it! On arrival at the riad, the housekeeper (another Abdul) was there to welcome us and show us around. Both him and his wife, Saida, who prepared our breakfasts and cleaned our rooms each day, were lovely and friendly and tolerated our very poor French with much humour (and sign language!). We had booked the 3rd and 4th floor rooms as two couples and it was a perfect location - the 4th floor has its own private roof terrace and is lovely and light, with views from the bedroom windows over the port and the sea. The room on the 3rd floor has a little outdoor courtyard area with potted plants and a nice big wetroom with plenty of hot water at all times, as well as a sitting area with sofa, chairs, chess and a little table - great for the odd occasion when its raining (which it did on one evening). Sleep quality in the 4th floor, although a lovely comfortable bed, was slightly worse than on the 3rd as you can really hear the mosque at 4am call to prayer, whereas on the 3rd floor (and I expect the lower floors) the sound is shielded somewhat and the other couple in our party on the 3rd floor had 5 nights of undisturbed sleep. Perhaps bring ear plugs if youre a light sleeper! The sound of the mosque is present wherever you stay inside the medina, so its not a problem specific to this riad (and its not really a big deal - its only a few minutes at 4am and anyway is part and parcel of staying in a traditional Muslim town). Downstairs the communal area and ground floor courtyard is decorated in a traditional style. Breakfast served on the terrace in the sunshine each morning was a highlight, although you have to be on your guard for raiding seagulls! The view from the terrace across the town as the sun is setting in the evening is stunning too. The location is great - right by the main square, so easy for orientation, but set back from the bustle in a peaceful location through some archways. The beach is a 5 minute walk. We loved our stay and highly recommend Riad de la Mer and its chilled-out atmosphere. Go there - you wont be disappointed! Room Tip: The room on the top floor is lovely and light, has sea views and its own private terrace - we loved.it..
“Lovely riad” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012 A charming and and attractively decorated riad just a few yards from Moulay Hassan. The first and second floor each have private terrace overlooking the central ground floor patio area. The third floor has a small outside area which leads to the rooftop terrace. Then there is where we stayed which is the top floor room overlooking the terrace, small but lovely and light with a wooden staircase which takes you onto your own little rooftop area. The view from this room was wonderful and justified our choice. the bathroom is very interesting and pleasant (but maybe not quite so much if you are tall). The property manager Abdul met us in the square and guided us to the riad. His wife Saida provided us with a lovely breakfast of pastries, croissants, preserves, fresh orange juice and tea or coffee. This riad has has the atmosphere of a private house rather than a hotel and is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the life of Essaouira.
“Wonderful European-flavor riad!” After a so-so experience for 2 nights in Essaouira, we moved on short notice to the Riad de la Mer for our last night. Dianes prompt email communication made for an easy reservation. Abdul met us there and made sure that our stay was comfortable. We had the second floor apartment, a wonderful set of wooden-door and shuttered rooms overlooking the open terrace below, 2 bedrooms, bath and kitchen (website photos are accurate). One bedroom was HUGE with wonderful decorations: fireplace, clothing on walls, a small table, and a nice antique mirror. The second was smaller but still not tiny. It was cold in January, but one room had a nice heater that we moved around to share. The bath was adorable with plenty of hot water loved its open door to the walkway. Breakfast and views on the rooftop was perfect in every way. Downstairs there is common area that includes a wonderful dining room, again intriguingly decorated and a small salon. Remaining walls and stairwells of the riad are also beautifully touched with Moroccan clothing, a very nice touch. The Riad de la Mer is very moderately priced and has a nice European flavor to it. It is not 5-star posh, but it was very comfortable and the service was excellent! I wish wed spent all our 3 night there! I recommend it highly! Stayed January 2012, travelled with family
“a lovely quiet riad” I have been to Essouira many times and stayed in various hotels, this time we stayed at Riad de la Mer for 9 nights and loved it. Abdul and his wife are charming and so friendly, a pleasure to get to know! They keep the place spotlessly clean. The location is quiet with a great atmosphere and close to the heart of the old city. Highly recommended!! J.G.
“Quiet and serene” 28 December 2011 This riad was clean and easy to find, made all the more easy by Abdul and his wife Saida. Diane made it easy to booko the riad through paypal. There was one other guest staying and we were able to communicate with Siada that we would like dinner. The whole riad smelled savory and delightful. She is an excellent cook and we were served in the dining room by lamp light and soaked up every last dro p of the amazing tagine that was cooked for us. Abdul lead the way to and from the supratours bus. It couldnt have been easier Room Tip: From top to bottom all the rooms were beautifully decorated and quiet
“fantastic riad” 24 November 2011 From the moment we walked in the door of this riad with the kind Abdul we felt peace coming over us. The rooms are spacy clean and very comfortable. You can feel and see that the owner has a great taste for details and the personal touch made us feel very at home away from home. Saida cooked us a wonderful tahina with chicken lemon and olives. We all agreed that this was our best meal we had in Marocco. Every morning we had a wonderfull breakfast on the roof terrace with a view over the port and the Atlantic. We had one regret and that is that we left too soon to go back to Marrakech where we found the people very annoying. What a difference with the calm and peaceful Essouira. Thanks again and we will deffinately come back to stay in the Riad. kim loraine and wim
“Lovely Riad, stunning views.” Reviewed 29 October 2011 Stayed here after Marrakech and felt instantly relaxed. Abdul the manager kindly met us at the coach station which is swarming with chariot (trolley) pushers and riad hawkers very keen for your business!! We stayed on the fourth floor which is lovely and light and airy. The views out to sea and the little islands are stunning, even more so from your own terrace above the room which feels like you have the best view in town. The Riad is very nicely done, is a great location for everything and is very well run by Abdul and Saida. Breakfast is very nice served on another terrace with equally fab views. Couple of drawbacks are the nearby mosque which has morning prayers at 5 am and seem to last about 15 minutes! Also the stairs are quite steep and narrow to the top if youre not too fit. Essaouria itself is very nice - although its a tourist destination its still very Moroccan and tourists in the minority. Lots of lovely crafts including a lovely Thuyya wood craft shop tucked away in the ramparts and a fab restaurant Des Alizes just a minute from the riad. Would love to stay here again.
“This is something else!” Having stayed in the riot that is Marrakesh for three days,we travelled on to Essaouira and found calm. The Riad de la Mer is centrally situated and we were met by Abdul the manager. It is about 10 minutes from the coach station of Supratours. The Riad is beautiful inside and very quiet. We had booked to be on the top floor and had the bonus of a roof terrace with panoramic views of the town - and what views, especially towards the sea and the islands. The rooms were clean and we really relaxed from all the stress caused by Marrakesh. It is also very reasonably priced. Room Tip: Insist on the top room the views are amazing!! R.S., October 2011

“Atmospheric, spacious and brilliantly located” We are a family of five on our first visit to Morocco and we spent a total of fifteen nights in the Riad during Ramadan. De la Mer is very well located, being just off the main square. It is spacious, clean and has some lovely little touches. There are some superb views over the port and the beds are very comfortable - a must after a days horse riding! The housekeeper and his wife, Abdul and Saida, were discreet and incredibly helpful. You should be aware that there are stairs to negotiate - those with dodgy knees ought to nab the bedrooms on the lower floors. The Riad does, as others have said, have a magical quality. Our party ranged from an eight year old, to teenagers and through to adults. We all loved the Riad and Essaouira and are certainly considering returning before too long. K.L. September 2011

My second trip to Essouira, stayed at Riad de la Mer for a couple nights, and loved it so much I have booked the entire Riad for a week for summer 2012. Fantastic all the way down the line: Diane the owner is wonderful, responsive and accommodating. The hosts of Abdul and his wife are charming and so friendly, a pleasure to get to know! The location is great, close to the heart of the old city yet once you close the front door you are transported to a another world. the house has all the old world, unique charm that I was looking for. Beautiful antiques populate the house but do not clutter, very tasteful and artful. Amazing tile work everywhere. beautiful light permeating every room, airy and quiet. All is exceptionally clean, sheets dried in the hot sun which made me love to get into bed, wonderful smell. Every room is unique, be sure to check the well documented website to see what works best for you. I chose to room in the sky, all the way at the top which has its own private terrace - I loved it. Highly highly recommend! D.O., July 2011

"“Room at the top in a beautiful little riad!” We stayed in this lovely, little riad mid February and from the moment we contacted the owner to make the booking, all the arrangements from payment to being greeted by Abdul the house manager on arrival, went like a dream. We had reserved the room at the top which was accessed by a spiral staircase, good for walking off the delicious breakfast and Moroccan cuisine we sampled while in Essaouira. The room was decorated tastefully in fresh pastel colours and had its own roof top terrace which was reached by climbing a wooden ladder. Be prepared for the quirky bathroom space which added to our experience. I think some other rooms are en-suite. Great value for money as the panoramic views of the port and out over the town were breathtaking. We were able to appreciate this vista each morning as we took breakfast on a lower rooftop terrace. This was served to us by Abduls wife who was meticulous in ensuring we had everything we needed. Other well travelled guests we spoke to who stayed in our riad seemed very happy with their accommodation too. The rooms were spotlessly clean as were the main areas. The entrance to the riad is down an alley just off the main square. Abdul met us and seemed to genuinely want us to enjoy our stay. All in all top class room for the price and we would not hesitate to stay again if visiting Essaouira. February 2011

Essaouira was my favourite place in Morocco and this riad was part of the reason. It was super relaxing and so so pretty. We had the room with private terrace, it had its own bathroom which was really lovely but very funny - the ceiling height is about 5ft and my boyfriend is 63" but it all added to the charm. Diane was really lovely and very helpful leading up to our trip and answered all my questions promptly and with really good information. The who place was spotless, the breakfast was amazing (the juice in particular) and all the staff were really nice. If I went back to Morocco, this would be the only place Id bother visiting - it was a haven! October 2010

This is the most wonderful Riad we have stayed in. Having been to Morocco 5 or six times, we have stayed in a number of places, but Riad De La Mer was by far the best for looks, location, and hospitality. The place is beautifully decorated throughout- the bedrooms are large, sumptuous and very comfortable, the main bathroom is just stunning, and the roof terrace is a lovely place to relax and sit and watch the sun set. The place is also immaculately well kept by Saida, who also cooks a lovely breakfast for you every day. The location is perfect- a two minute walk to the main square, the souks, the harbour or the beach. We stayed for two weeks, the first spent with family for Christmas, and the second with friends for new year. Our friends brought their two year old with no problems, and he was happily entertained both in the Riad, and with all the local sites and beach. Booking was simple, and Diane the owner was exceptionally helpful with all our queries (emails from 10 different people) and with organizing our travel arrangements to and from Essaouira. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Riad de la mer- we are planning a return trip as soon as possible. December 2010

“A perfect hideaway in the heart of the town.” If you like understated elegance and comfort in a wonderful location then Riad de la mer is made for you. The location is one of the best in town with views over the sea and skala and within a couple of minutes walk of some of the best cafes and restaurants in Essaouira. The house is run by the excellent Abdul who helped us with all aspects of our stay in Morocco and his lovely wife Saida served us a delicious continental breakfast each morning and kept the whole house spotless. We rented the whole riad for a group of friends which makes the house incredibly good value. I have visited Morocco on several occasions and paid a great deal more for a great deal less in Boutique riads around the country. If you want a stylish break with some friends, book now! S.B. December 2010
The riad, generally, and our rooms in particular were as charming I can imagine - lovely colors, thoughtful decorative choices. It soothed visually in a way that is perfect for the weary traveler. The location is superb - within the medina, very near the sea. From the roof terrace you look out onto the ocean. A delightful breakfast is served each morning on the terrace and when we were there we easily and happily fell into absorbing and relaxed conversation with our fellow travelers having their breakfasts on the terrace. Could not have asked for a better place to stay - I've been scheming about how to get myself back across the Atlantic for a longer stay here.P.F. New York, 1st July
Delightful”London12 Oct 2009 | Trip type: CouplesSpent 4 days and three nights in Essaouira at the Riad de la Mer and it couldn't have been better. Decided on this one on the back of its excellent TripAdvisor rating and even then we were pleasantly surprised. To start with, the owner sent out plenty of directions and a good solid map of the town with some restaurant/bar recommendations etc. and details of Abdul who works at the Riad with his wife, both very welcoming individuals! Abdul meets you at the Riad and his wife prepares a delicious breakfast that is served on the terrace every morning - from where you can see the fishing port and the beach and out to sea. In the Riad, we had the first floor apartment which has a vast bath in a vast bathroom and two double rooms (one with an extra bed) that are also large and very comfortable. The location too could not have been better - close to the square with the bars and restaurants and souks and also close to the cute fishing port where you park your car if you drive there. If I was going back to Essaouira I would go straight back here.
Easy city Essaouira - easy and great last stay in Riad de la Mer”CTJ Karlsruhe25 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Couples Essaouira was our last "station" on our roundtour of marocco and luckily we stayed these 4 days in the riad de la mer. With the description Diane provided us with the riad was easy to find, the riad itself is located directly in the center...meaning quite close to the sea and the main place of the city. I did not know that for the 65€ we payed for a double inc breakfast we rented the whole floor! The Riad itself is beautiful and having breakfast prepared by teh helpful saida (terrific pancakes and great breakfast) is a wonderful great start into an easy day in easy essaouira.Rooms were clean, unique and the fact that we had the riad for 3 days (no other guests) on our own leaves us a great impression of this wonderul riad. If this is your price range dont search anymore, go for this riad!
Great LocationNew Zealand7 Nov 2009We chose Riad De La Mer on the strength of the reviews on Trip Advisor and found it to be everything we could have hoped for. The location was superb, we loved the decor and really appreciated having the whole floor and use of the kitchen, (not that we ate in as there was such choice in resturants), but it was great to be able to have a cup of tea ect if we felt like it.We were especially impressed with the caring Saida who made up a herbal remedy and prepared special breakfast for my husband when he had a stomach upset. All in all, great value for money, highly recommended
A Moroccan Gem”Having just returned from a wonderful holiday in Essaouira, we were so pleased to have found such great accommodation. The location was absolutely perfect with shops and restaurants so accessible, and of course being in the Medina itself we felt very much part of genuine Moroccan life. The house has panoramic views of the Port and beach from the roof terrace and is furnished beautifully in an authentic and luxurious Moroccan style, which even extends to high quality linen and towels. We just loved the friendliness of the people and best of all was the welcome from the delightful Abdul and Saida the managers of the house, such warm lovely people, and so helpful for instance we suffered a mishap when my spectacles suddenly disintegrated-a disaster! However Abdul took the specs, disappeared into the Medina, and reappeared later with specs mended, and refused to take any payment. I was so grateful. All in all, a great holiday in a place we can thoroughly recommend. Excellent value, can’t wait to return.E. Derbyshire, Cheshire..
“This was one of our best holidays ever, and that was due to this amazing riad”6 Mar 2010 The riad is in a perfect location, as Essaouira has everything - Location on the Atlantic coast, fantastic restaurants, interesting medina and shops, as well as good walking along the beach. After a busy day exploring, the riad was a haven of peace and quiet, with incredible views over the rocky coastline and out to the ocean. The service was outstanding. We had breakfast each morning on the roof terrace, provided by Saida, who was so attentive and kind. Six of us rented the entire riad, and we had boundless space for privacy as well as spending time together. Her husband, Ahmed, met us after our long journey from Scotland, and quickly settled us in.
We've just got back from a great week in Essaouira, and I thought I'd dro p you a line to let you know how much we loved staying in your beautiful house. You have done an amazing job with the renovation, and it has such a beautiful peaceful feel to it. The situation in the town couldn't be better, and everyone was so friendly and helpful: Abdul in particular was an absolute star!I will certainly be recommending Riad Des Palmiers to my friends, and I would be very happy to write an internet review if you would like to suggest the best site for you.I will also send you some of our pictures once I've downloaded them. Once again, thanks for a fantastic holiday
Your beautiful Riad was perfect to house all our guests and you are right when you say you could not get more central!. It took our guests' breath away when they first arrived. Superb We were fortunate enough to be there during the music festival and enjoyed the music every evening along with virtually unbroken sunshine during the days. Abdul and Saida were excellent hosts and looked after us well, Saida cooked us a fantastic meal one evening although we could probably have fed most of the town with what she cooked! - News of fat brits travels far! I will not hesitate to recommend your Riad to any of our friends and colleagues who may be venturing out to Morocco. A big thank you. My best memory? - getting on a camel, a mixture of fun and pure fear! J.H. August 2008
"Charming central riad with amazing views".We stayed here during the busy October half term and loved it. Very stylish rooms - all white furnishings with big open fireplaces - very hippychick so Villa Maroc eat your heart out!Abdul and Saida were very friendly and helpful - from meeting us at the taxi stand to helping my husband find a traditional Couscousier in the market to babysitting to serving delicious breakfasts on the roof terrace. The views are amazing, the beds comfortable and the location superb - you are literally 30 seconds from the main square but it feels very tranquil. We didn't use the kitchen as there are so many good restaurants nearby ( check out Elizir!) but it was adequately equipped to make meals. I would love to come back in the winter to experience the big fires in the rooms.Great for kids too (although stairs are a bit steep up to terrace so competent walkers only).Liked — Views, trendy rooms and locationG.P., London
"A perfect getaway".We had the most amazing week's holiday at Riad de la Mer.The house is stunning, and just as described on the website. Essaouira is wonderful, and a whole lot less hectic than cities like Marrakech. Abdul and Saida were the perfect charming hosts, and made us feel welcome and at home, whilst giving us all the space and privacy we needed to enjoy our break.Breakfasts and sunsets on the roof terrace were idyllic, and at the end of our stay we really didn't want to leave! We will be saving our pennies, and encouraging our friends to do likewise, with the intention of returning as soon as possible, as a group, including kids, to rent the whole house.Liked — Authentic Morrocan house, like home from home, great views from roof terrace.Q.T. "Kingdom of Heaven"We booked this Riad to spend a week windsurfing in the windy city and to experience a little of Maroccan life and it did not disappoint. The house was beautiful and exactly as it looks in the photos. Abdul and Saida were charming and supplied a plentiful breakfast each morning or freshly squeezed juice, pastries and jams, coffee and tea, delicious and eaten on the roof with a stunning view of the town, sea and the port. Essouira itself was a real adventure visiting the fortified walls where the Knigdom of Heaven movie was filmed, haggling in the souks and eating really cheaply in the lovely restaurants around the town. Windsurfing was great and the taxi back home from the other end of the beach approx 50p a bargin when your legs just won't work anymore! A great holiday. Liked — It was in the heart of the old town and very prettyJ., Wolverhampton, July 2008
We were very happy that we chose to experience our first time in Essaouira in this charming riad, probably one of the most central & best located riads in Essaouira.Breakfasts on the terrace overlooking the ocean were memorable, the best croissants I have had in years! the best plunger coffee I have been served in an hotel or B&B!Lovely interiors, gorgeous bathroom and good staff,What more could a guest want?Esther, Melbourne, December 2008
We stayed at this beautiful riad and enjoyed the tranquility of Essaouira for a couple of days after experiencing the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. The situation is perfect in a quiet location just off a square with plenty of restaurants, and very close to the beach and harbour. All of the medina is a short walk away including a wide variety of shops and markets. We stayed in the second floor apartment which has two bedrooms, the main one is huge and the smaller one a reasonable size. There is also a kitchen where Saida will prepare breakfast for you and which has good facilities should you wish to cook your own meals. However the local restaurants and the fish stalls around the harbour were so good that we ate lunch and dinner out each day.The concierges Abdul and Saida were perfect hosts, Abdul met us at the bus terminal and arranged transport for our luggage, and Saida served an excellent breakfast on the roof terrace with great views of the fishing boats and out to sea. We hope to return to Essaouira for a longer holiday and would certainly stay at Riad de la Mer again, I would recommend it to anyone visiting this lovely resort.David, Winchester, March 2009
