Beautiful sunny and spacious roof-top apartment in the heart of the medina. Large lounge/dining area. The private roof terrace has a small conservatory and overlooks the medina and ocean. With Wi-fi.
Moroccan Sunset is a spacious self-contained roof-top apartment recently renovated to very high standards in a Moroccan style. It is situated in the heart of the traffic-free UNESCO-protected medina. The apartment consists of a double bedroom, twin bedroom and large open-plan dining and lounge area. It has a large PRIVATE roof terrace with panoramic views of the medina, sea and (distant) Atlas Mountains. We can also arrange taxi transfers, private guided tours of the Medina, private cookery lessons and even private yoga lessons (on the terrace!). Salah can also advise about camel and horse riding and quadbiking.
Salah (our English speaking manager) will always be available to assist you and Fatima (our house keeper) will cook traditional Moroccan food and serve you in the apartment if requested at very reasonable rates . Also breakfast on the terrace. NEW ADDITION: The apartment has Wi-fi.
We also have a similar 2nd floor flat which can be combined with the 3rd floor by means of a common entrance if larger parties require it.
On the west coast of Morocco lies the Unesco World Heritage protected medina (walled town) of Essaouira. With its all-year temperate climate, traffic-free streets, beautiful beach, wonderful restaurants (both Moroccan and European) and coffee shops, it is a safe, tranquil and beautiful holiday resort for ALL the family.
It’s great for sunbathing, surfing, and water-sports, as well as camel and horse riding, quad-biking, and trips to the desert or mountains.
It is absolutely useless if you’re looking for loud night-clubs and all-night bars!
We are a music performance family with 2 teen-aged sons and we stayed 3 weeks in the winter of 2014. We absolutely loved the apartment. Weve rented apartments/dars in Essaouira on 3 separate occasions.
What we particularly loved about this apartment was the location…right in the medina yet close to the food markets the stunning view from the roof terrace the solarium on the terrace which made the terrace usable on the chilly and windy winter days great internet connection (we were working while staying there) and the sunlight and ventilation, which are rare in the medina.
The decor was charming, and it was really nice having a stereo the kitchen was pretty well equipped, though we did suggest to Laury, the owner, to provide a teapot and cafetera (stove top espresso pot).
Laury is extremely agreeable and great to work with…quickly answering any questions we had. The manager quickly replaced the gas bottle (for hot water and cooking) when it ran out other smaller requests took a bit more time (though, honestly, we have found this to be not uncommon in Morocco).
The less desirable aspects of the rental were the very, very firm mattress on the double bed. I have suggested to Laury to replace that mattress. And better pressure for the hot water in the shower would be good.
You can see some photos and a video of the terrace on our Facebook page at tarabraqs.
All in all…highly recommended yes, we would go back.
Thanks for the positive review. I recently went across to check on your constructive comments - The double bed is firm (as I like it) so now I have equipped ALL beds with Duvet sets which can be used on the matress if desired. Also the water pressure in the Medina is poor to terrible, especially if you have an apartment on the top floor - so I have built in a water pump to ensure constant good water pressure. Hope to see you again. Laury.

The first time to Essaouira for our family and hopefully not the last. Salah was friendly and helpful. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The people in the medina were friendly. The best restuarant (although we only went there on the last night!) was Miyami - just by the apartment. Both Essaouira and the apartment are highly recommended. Thank you.

The apartment was nice and clean and in the heart of the medina with wonderful all-round views from the terrace. Especially liked looking down at the spice market and the main street at dusk. The small conservatory on the terrace was great for breakfasts and for sheltering in when it was windy. The manager Salah spoke good English and was really friendly and helpful. Best restaurant was Miyame (just by the apartment) but also enjoyed Sayeed’s place on the main market street, (don’t know the name – you’ll have to ask Salah). Sayeed also spoke English -you’re meant to buy your own food from the market and take it for him to cook – but he’ll buy it for you if you ask – it’s for the locals more than the tourists and is really cheap. You can rent sun-loungers half way along the beach for 25dirham a day. Don’t get ripped off by the hotels (100dirhams). We all had a great time. Highly recommended. Hopefully will return soon.

It was a spacious apartment and easily accommodated 4 people. Beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished. We really enjoyed having access to the sun terrace and towards the end of the week when the wind reached gale force, made full use of the little conservatory. The location of the apartment was great and we loved walking around the medina. There are some brilliant places to eat, one just outside the apartment. Once we laid hands on it (not there to start with) Laurys map, recommendations and other info about the place were invaluable. 15 mins walk to the beach was fine.
Slight minuses: Salah was helpful, though not always there, and the tv didnt work properly. Overall, we had a really good time. Thank you.

We rented both the 2nd and 3rd floor flats for the Gnaoua festival. It was great as there were a lot of us and we had plenty of space and could all use the roof terrace. Received maps and info from the owner before we left and he arranged airport transfers - made life much easier (and cheaper). The festival was brill and we were in the thick of it. Essa was heaving. Thankfully we stayed on a few extra days afterwards to enjoy Essa when it was more peaceful. The flat was WOW. Breakfast in the terrace sunlounge was great as it was a bit windy some days. Thanks for a wonderful time.

We spent 10 wonderful days in Essaouira on our honeymoon. Laury (owner) contacted us when we booked and sent us a packet of useful information and answered all our questions. He also arranged airport transfers. All very reassuring. Salah met us on our arrival and took us to the flat. GREAT! Terrace overlooks the spice and grain markets. We just sat up there with a drink and watched the world go by. Sometimes quite windy! Had a private tour with Abdul and a cooking lesson with Fatimah. Went quad biking and horse riding along the beach. All highly recommended - Fatimah doesnt speak English - so a little French is useful. Salah was always there when needed - friendly and helpful (plus good English!). We shall return - Inshallah (God-willing).
