Dar Edouard is inside the ancient Medina, which in 2001 UNESCO declared a World Heritage site. It is a peaceful house, situated down a tranquil alley way, just a short distance from the bustling Bab Marrakech. Restaurants and shops, including a bakery where bread is baked throughout the day, are only minutes away.
A thoughtful renovation has given the house a light and spacious ambiance, and provides comfortable accomodation for six people, spread over two floors. The three bedrooms are furnished with traditionally painted Moroccan furniture, and the floors throughout the house are black and white tiled. A good sized sitting room and dining room are on the second floor and the roof terrace makes a wonderful place to eat, sun bathe and relax.
A wide staircase takes you straight up from the street to the first floor. Bedroom 1 with ensuite bathroom leads off the hallway and from the other end of the hallway, the second bedroom and en suite bathroom are found. On the second floor, the sitting room leads off from the hallway to the left and from the sitting room you enter the third bedroom. This bedroom can be arranged as either a double or a twin room. The dining room and kitchen are at the other end of the hallway plus a bathroom. The staircase continues up to the roof terrace. This area is attractively decorated with local plants and sun loungers, plus table and chairs for dining which makes it a great place to watch the sun go down.
For larger groups there is a two bed room, ground floor apartment with a separate entrance which is also available to rent.
The Medina is traffic free so if you do arrive with a car, you will can park just outside Bab Marrakesh, which costs around around £1.30 a day. It is by no means necessary to have a car to enjoy Essaouira local taxis are inexpensive and if you do wish to go further afield then we are able to arrange either a rented car or a car plus driver for you. If you would like to be met at Marrakech, Agadir or Essaouira airports this can be easily arranged at a competitive price.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay with the family. Sala the house manger was the best, looked after us very well and organised any activity that we wanted to do. I recommend the camel ride, and quad bikes. The property is located in a convenient place. The best thing about the property was that it was located close to a traditional mosque, and one could absorb the splendour of the local peoples steadfastness in the 5 daily prayer of Islam. Latifa the house maid was just a charm. She cooked us very good breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice, and some traditional Moroccan dinners. She was very kind and courteous during our stay and always eager to help with anything. Altogether a very enjoyable holiday made more special by Latifa, Salah, and a well kept Villa in a very charming part of Morocco.
John Gimlette has written in our guest bookThis has been a fabulous stay. The house is great the locality is charming. I can heartily recommend this as a winter holiday (and perhaps summer too?) - and I shall be doing so when I write about it in the Sunday Telegraph travel section. The article will appear in about 4NJ months: see www.telegraph.co.uk (and search Gimlette)Thank you to the Lock family for making this trip work. It’s been thoroughly enjoyable (our 4 year old has loved it too!)
Dar Edouard is a lovely home from home right in the centre of town, yet quiet and peaceful. It has all the character and style of an authentic Moroccan rhiad while providing modern creature comforts in the form of excellent beds, good linen and hot showers.
We soaked up the winter sunshine in the daytime on the roof terrace, sipping delicious orange juice freshly squeezed, and warmed ourselves by the cosy fire in the evenings with a bottle of local wine.
Altogether it was a most relaxing holiday which totally recharged our batteries.
We had a short stay in this extraordinarily beautiful and well planned house the perfect retreat from the crowded liveliness of the medina around it. On first impressions Essaouira is complex, compact and incredibly varied, there is every chance of getting lost but none of being bored!Beatrice Harper and Richard Bernas November 2008
Had a wonderful time, lots of good weather and bargains. Made lots of friends. People here are of good manners and beautiful smiles. Hafida cooked us a lovely tagine dish which we all thoroughly enjoyed and was always hepful. As was my "sideeq" Salah whom we enjoyed being in company with. A perfect holiday with many thanks to all. The Bilimoria family. October 2008
An amazing house. Loved the roof terrace and had a great time wandering round the town. Lovely beach and fantastic weather helped make a great holiday in a very comfortable house.Sophie and Julia February 2008.
About the owner
We are delighted to own Dar Edouard, a house we enjoy escaping to. We feel that it is important to share the house with others and have furnished it not only with our own requirements in mind, but have first and foremost considered what others would want from a holiday home.
