Rafailovici is an easy-going, purpose-built resort on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast. It was founded around the all-star beach – one of the jewels of the Med – and has a backdrop of tree-covered mountains. The whole place is pretty compact, so you’re never far from the beach or the restaurant-lined prom. Plus, Budva is a stone’s throw away.
A belle of a beach
Back in 1935, Rafailovici Beach took the crown in Europe’s most beautiful beach contest, and it still draws admiring looks from locals and tourists today. The 3-kilometre stretch of sand and pebbles is backed by a long prom. Follow it all the way to Sveti Stefan and you’ll reach a tiny island of pastel-hued houses. It’s connected to the mainland by strip of pink sand.

While Rafailovici can lay claim to plenty of natural beauty, it’s not short on exciting stuff for the kids, either. The town recently added a water park to its name, and it’s got a small park where kids can kick a football around.

The town of Budva is just across the bay from Rafailovici You can walk there – it takes about 20 minutes – or arrive in style by boat. This 15th-century town is a warren of narrow streets filled with shops, galleries and trendy boutiques. To get standout views of the whole town, climb to the top of Budva Citadel.
