Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean Sea (in its eastern basin), some 93 km south of the Italian island of Sicily across the Malta Channel east of Tunisia and north of Libya in Africa. Only the three largest islands Malta Island (Malta), Gozo and Comino (Kemmuna) are inhabited. The smaller islands, such as Filfla, Cominotto and the Islands of St. Paul are uninhabited. Numerous bays along the indented coastline of the islands provide good harbours. The archipelago itself lies on the edge of the African tectonic plate, as it borders with the Eurasian plate. The landscape is characterised by low hills with terraced fields. The highest point is at Ta Dmejrek on Malta Island at 253 meters (830 ft) near Dingli. Although there are some small rivers at times of high rainfall, there are no permanent rivers or lakes on Malta. However, some watercourses are found around the island that have fresh water running all year round.

Sliema (or Tas-Sliema) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta. It is a center for shopping, restaurants and cafe life. Sliema is also a major commercial and residential area and houses several of Maltas most modern hotels. Sliema, which means peace, comfort, was once a quiet fishing village on the peninsula across Marsamxett Harbour from Valletta, but now Sliema and the coastline up to neighbouring St. Julian constitutes Maltas main coastal resort.
In 1855 a new church dedicated to Our Lady Star of the Sea "Stella Maris" was built. Around the new church, the small village grew into a town. By 1878, the population grew to an extent that the religious authorities had the Stella Maris Church declared a Parish in its own right and it was separated from that of Birkirkara.
The town began to develop rapidly in the second half of the 19th century and later it became popular as a summer resort for wealthier Valletta residents. Their elegant villas and town houses lined the quiet, inland streets. Various Victorian buildings graced its three kilometer sea promenade which overlooked rugged rocks, farms and even a small sandy beach. The farm was eventually abandoned and in 1990, was transformed into a coastline garden known as Independence Garden.
The town has a considerable number of streets named after British governors or places, such as Norfolk Street, Prince of Wales Road (which was in fact opened by Prince Albert himself when he visited the island), Windsor Terrace, Graham Street, Milner Street and Fort Cambridge among others.

Fantastic farmhouse. All 5 of our party thought it was excellent. The owners were very friendly and easily contactable. The farmhouse is situated in a lovely area of Malta. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Imgarr farmhouse. I would love to return to Malta one day and will definately look up Imgarr farmhouse again. Many Thanks!

Very nice property. Only thing that did not work was the pool Jacuzzi but I was OK with that and told the owner as such. Somewhat puzzled by the property agent who visited during my stay to make sure that I did not have more people on the property than the 6 allowed. Also indicated that if she had known that I was of Maltese nationality, I would not have been able to rent or I would be given "a different contract". The reason given was that Maltese people tend to invite family and frioends over to stay. I found those comments somewhat dissapointing. This is the only reason I am hesitant to recommend to others. For renters who are not Maltese and /or do not mind surprise visits this is good value for money.

Date of Stay 30 May 2013 Helpful votes:2/2. The pictures and description cannot do justice to this wonderful rural Farmhouse just outside Mgarr. If you are looking for a relaxing rural retreat away from the crowds of the East Coast this place is perfect. It is an ideal base to explore the north and west where most of the good beaches are. The lovely walled town of Mdina is just a 10 minute drive and you can cut across to Mellieha in 20 minutes. We were initially concerned that there was nowhere within walking distance to eat or to get groceries, but we needn’t have worried. In reality, it is a 5 to 10 minute drive into Mgarr where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. And the buses run every 15 minutes into town from just outside the house as well. We were a party of 4 adults and 2 children and found the farmhouse more than big enough for all of us. The huge well equipped kitchen runs into a small living area with sofa and TV but what you don’t see on the pictures is the lovely spacious living room just next door which has another large TV and seats everyone comfortably. Upstairs are two good sized double bedrooms and one large en-suite double with a balcony. There’s also a large roof terrace which is child safe. The outside area is equally as spacious. There is plenty of room around the pool to catch the sun as well as a shady Orange grove and dining area. This is a very private farmhouse with high walls all around so you can feel truly relaxed. France, the owner, was only a phone call away for any queries that we had and both he and his wife couldn’t have been a more welcoming hosts. A lovely place and lovely people. My Response Hi Christian Thanks to the lovely review that you had wrote for our Farmhouse in Imgarr. We are pleased to have you in our farmhouse. Please tell your friends about this farmhouse in Imgarr and hope that we see you in future time. The farmhouse is so close to St Julians, Sliema and Valletta and you can take the bus from in front of the farmhouse. Come and enjoy and relax in this Fantastic Farmhouse. We have more different Villas and Bungalow with private pool. So send us an e-mail on or see my web site Regards Josephine
