Villa overview - owner's description

Set in the most sought after area of Santa Marija Estate, Villa Blu is located on a tranquil road, incorporates a mixture of clean, crisp lines, minimalist décor, and prestigious materials.

Set in the dreamy village of Mellieha, in the most sought after area of Santa Marija Estate, is Villa Blu – a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Santa Marija Estate is the ideal location for anyone wishing to enjoy his own privacy, while still being close enough to the main town, where the hectic clamor of day to day life is ever present.

Villa Blu is located on a tranquil road, with ample parking space in its spacious driveway and adjoining garage. Upon stepping out onto the driveway, the imposing grandeur of the Villa makes itself present – from the large planters adorned with Malta's endemic cactus plants, to the colossal facade and entryway, which seemingly greets you into another world. The towering main door, adorned with blue touches, wherefore the Villa's name originates, welcomes you into a cool space, from where the Villa's bedrooms emerge on each side.

The first bedroom one notices is a double, artfully decorated in muted tones with subtle hints of colour, with an outdoor space leading into an internal courtyard. Another double bedroom can be found across the hallway, a gargantuan room, tastefully adorned with high-end pieces. This room comes complete with an ensuite bathroom fully bedecked with bath-tub and shower for that extra added comfort. Further along the hall one finds an additional bedroom equipped with two single beds. The fourth and final bedroom sleeps three persons in its three single beds, while two family bathrooms can be found on this floor, both equipped with showers. All bedrooms are fully air-conditioned and 3of them feature an outside area leading onto the main internal yard, perfect for a nightcap or for enjoying a cool evening breeze. The main attraction on this level is surely the indoor pool area, complete with sauna for the ultimate spa experience. Being on the ground floor, this level remains cool even during the warmest times of the day, making this an ideal sleeping quarters for the notoriously hot Maltese summers.

Up the stairs and onto the first floor, you find yourself into the modern, contemporary space which is the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. With floor to ceiling windows all around the space, the outside is brought in for further embellishing the already elegant décor, flooding the area with natural light. The open plan area is decorated using subdued neutral tones, with smart pops of colour to further enhance the contrast, mirroring the vibrancy of the world outside the windows and the calm neutrality of the inside. The contemporary kitchen is fully bedecked with dishwasher, making preparing home cooked meals a breeze. The dining table complements the neutrality of the room, elevated further by its corresponding ceiling lamp – a four pendant affair reminiscent of Maltese fishermen's traditional netting. The living area features comfortable sofas overlooking the terrace outside, and comes equipped with a flat screen TV. A family bathroom with shower can also be found on this floor. An outdoor courtyard runs along the side of the living and dining area, spruced up by a row of potted cactus – a theme which also resounds with the cactus artwork found in the dining area. One also finds another front door in the living area, for easier access from the outside of the Villa.

The terrace is a splendid area, of which the L-shaped swimming pool takes the main stage. The pool is a great refreshing way to stay cool in the summer, while also providing a dazzling visual interest on the terrace. An array of sunbeds is also readily available for the essential top up of one's tan. The terrace is surrounded by greenery, ensuring maximum privacy and seclusion from neighbours and the outside world alike. A convenient BBQ area ideal for al fresco dining is located just off of the pool area, giving you a practical and appealing new way to enjoy your dinners.

Villa Blu is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy a haven of peacefulness and privacy, without relinquishing opulence and comfort.

Mellieha is the Northern-most town in Malta, a former farmer’s village, still abundant in spectacular greenery and undeveloped areas. Unlike other Maltese towns and villages which are joined to their neighbouring localities, Mellieha is still a stand-alone location, divided from its neighbours by acres of open countryside and rocky stretches. This once small village has now grown into a fairly large town, quite popular with tourists, yet not as swarmed as Sliema or Bugibba. One can still find souvenir shops, tour agents and vehicle hire companies in Mellieha, however these touristic additions blend well with the humble surroundings of an intrinsically Maltese village.

Known for its thriving beach of the same name (known as Ghadira to us Maltese), Mellieha is much more than a beach town. Mellieha Bay is indeed the largest beach in Malta, and its long stretches of golden sand make for an ideal choice of beach especially for families with children. On this beach you can find loads of activities to do – from kid-friendly water sports on the bay, to more adventurous activities for adults – and there are sun beds and umbrellas which can be rented out for the day. There are also several restaurants down by the bay area, as well as multiple hotels which make the most of their location. The beach is located down a rather steep hill from the main village; however there is a bus from the beach to the town square for those who’d rather save their energy! The views from the town square are unrivalled; there are unobstructed views of the neighbouring islands of Comino and Gozo, while the sparkling Mediterranean provides an iridescent backdrop. The area is dominated by the Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Mellieha, which dates back to the 17th Century. There is a cave which forms part of the Sanctuary, and one can see votive offerings throughout the Sanctuary’s walls. This village was very popular with pilgrims in medieval times, as they would come as a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady. Nowadays the square around the Sanctuary is one of the best viewpoints in Mellieha, commanding amazing views.

There are buses departing from this square which travel throughout Malta, however it is best to keep in mind that while Malta is considered small by foreign standards, this locality is still quite distant from the central part of the island. Bus trips to Valletta and Sliema may take a bit longer due to the distance; however buses are frequent and operate until around 11pm during the summer months. There are also many restaurants and bars to choose from in the town square, as well as grocery and convenience shops for daily needs.
