The old town of the port city of La Spezia with its lively streets is worth a visit: Palace De Nobili, Castle of St. George. On the first Sunday of August a traditional, exciting rowing competition (Palio del Golfo) between 13 hand-built boats. In the first week of October, the spectacular marine festival ?Festa della Marineria? with historical watercrafts. Every year in August the famous local event "Pitei cantina" is celebrated, where it is possible to taste traditional specialties in the various wine cellars of the town. From Pitelli a hiking trail (11 km) leads to the picturesque village of San Terenzo.
