Country house overview - owner's description

Comfortable characterful peaceful well-equipped 2 bedroom 2 bathroom stone house with new build, garden, veranda, patio, above ground pool among olive groves in the Ostuni countryside, 6km from Ostuni

The house is comfortable and in a peaceful location with almond and fig trees set in 6,000sqm of land amongst olive groves but not far from Ostuni (10 minutes) and Cisternino (15 minutes) pretty, clean town with restaurants specialising in roasted meats. In the house you will find a travel cot, high chair, plastic crockery & cutlery, potty, inset toilet seat for children and grip rails, disabled WC, shower seat, tri-walker, bed stick for people with disabilities. Martina Franca (40 minutes) Baroque architecture, Alberobello (45 minutes) trulli houses, Locorotondo (30 minutes), Ceglie Messapica (19 minutes), Monopoli and Polignano a Mare (1 hour) are pretty seaside towns. Villanova is a small port a short drive from Ostuni. Lecce (45 minutes) the jewel in the crown, a wonderful city. Matera (2 hours) to see the Sassi/cave houses where people lived until the '60s, underground caves at Castellana Grotte (1 hour). There are many lovely beaches and inlet coves along the coast including Blue Flag beaches and a Nature Reserve at Torre Guaceto (40 minutes). There are many towns to visit which have an abundance of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops, Cathedrals and churches.
There is a petrol station with s small shop/cafe just 3km from the house and a very good supermarket on the outskirts of Ostuni just off the Aldo Moro/Emigranti roundabout.
Puglia is a gastronomic area, great food, wine, beer, coffee, ice cream and the local people are friendly and helpful.
Internet/wifi included.

26/3/13 "Beautiful setting for a relaxing holiday, ideal location, wonderful neighbours!" Casa Mandorlina is a cleverly converted building, offering very comfortable accommodation for six people. The location, a few miles from Ostuni, is quiet the house is surrounded by an open area with mature fig trees providing an excellent treat for breakfast, but it is not isolated and the neighbouring family is particularly friendly and helpful. Ostuni and the other small towns in the area are charming with plenty of shops and cafes. The villa owners can provide invaluable suggestions for really good restaurants offering traditional Puglian food. The kitchen area is small but functional and the villa is well-furnished with some lovely creative touches. There are a number of beaches a short drive from the villa. There is a really good pay beach adjacent to a nature reserve which was busy but not overcrowded even in high summer. We visited a number of the local towns and also more touristy areas like Alberobello, but we also really enjoyed sunbathing on the terraced flat roof of the villa, eating lazy lunches sitting on the veranda and we made good use of the small pool. We hope to stay again before too long.

3/12/13 "The perfect base to explore this stunning area" Having holidayed in other parts of Italy before we were keen to discover a new area. Casa Mandorlina proved to be the perfect base for this. Location wise, we felt secluded enough to really relax, surrounded by olive and almond trees (the kids particularly enjoyed collecting figs from a nearby tree), yet were only a short drive to Ostuni - a gem of a city that really comes alive from 9pm. With beautiful architecture, great restaurants and a local market on Saturdays thats not to be missed. We were also well placed to explore the rest of the sites of Puglia and managed to find a good balance between exploring the nearby towns (for us) and the lovely nearby beaches (for the kids!). The villa itself is bristling with character yet well renovated equipped with everything you could think of to make your stay enjoyable. I was initially concerned that the living area would be too small but it was absolutely fine for our family of four. On top of that we spent most of our time on the very generous sized terrace while the kids thoroughly enjoyed the pool which, although was fairly small, was perfect for cooling down. Our days were spent exploring in the mornings and chilling out/cooling down in the afternoons - bliss! The owners, Wendy & Louis, went to great lengths to make our stay comfortable, with masses of great local advice. The welcome pack was very appreciated - as was the cold prosecco in the fridge on our arrival! It was also nice to know Francesco, who looks after the villa and pool, was just a few minutes away if we need anything. All in all a wonderful family holiday and we hope to return soon. One word of advice though: hire a car and make sure you get excess waiver insurance from a third party - roads are narrow! A £16 insurance saved us over £200.

25/1/14 "Peaceful spot, excellent accommodation, good restaurants abound!" Good flight with Ryanair to/from Bari/Brindisi, car hire at airport very convenient. Route supplied from airport to the villa where everything was spotless. Accommodation was excellent, good showers, hot water and cooking facilities. We enjoyed the pool and the surrounding garden. Plenty of places to visit within easy driving distance, and lots of good shopping close by. Definitely on our agenda for a further visit.

Louis and I are Ofsted registered childminders. I also teach Stott Pilates. Louis' family are from a small town outside Vicenza. We have two grown up daughters and two white cats. We love Puglia and spending time at Casa Mandorlina, with friends and family, drinking coffee, Negroamaro, Primitivo, Birra Rossa, eating the local food and exploring the region. Each time we visit we find more beautiful and interesting places to go. We hope you enjoy your stay at our lovely house and your trip to Puglia!
