General area guide
The word Tuscany conjures images of olive groves and vineyards, fine food and wine, romantic farmhouses lined with cypress trees and of course the sun set over Florence. Tourists are drawn every year by these beautiful images they see in glossy magazines, travel guides and through film and television. Many visitors can be forgiven for thinking that Chianti, Siena and Florence encompasses all Tuscany has to offer, however this is not so, and although these areas are enchanting there is much more to discover. Lunigiana offers a truly unspoilt corner of Tuscany and an inspired destination for the Italian traveller. The most Northern tip which borders the colourful Gulf of the Poets. The nearby Versilia coast overflows with sea side charm and is within easy reach the impressive city of Lucca, rich with Italian architecture and culture. In order to really understand Tuscany it is essential to experience its many contrasts and only then will you discover its true spirit.
Lunigiana is an area rich in history and tradition and set amidst magnificent scenery. The generous hospitality and relaxed pace to life make this a perfect destination for those wishing to escape the rush of modern life. The nearby Gulf of the Poets has attracted many writers, artists and film makers over the years. The quiet cosmopolitan coastline still retains its authenticity and charm. Excellent transport links provide easy accessibility to many of the centres of both Tuscany and Liguria.
If you have a passion for Italy and a desire to explore the less beaten tracks, then Lunigiana will not fail to impress. The only way to appreciate all that the region has to offer is to see it with your own eyes. We are sure that after your visit this will be a place you find difficult to forget.

La Gemelle is a beautiful self catering villa situated within stunning surroundings, its peaceful and well maintained - especially the pool. If you are looking for somewhere stunning to get away from it all and just relax quietly by the pool then this is the place for you. We found it accessible for groceries, quaint Italian village life, but also not too far from a beach (40 mins) and other facilities such as larger towns for shopping, and/or the autostrada for easy access to Florence & Pisa for example. This property exceeded our expectations, and the family who own the property are very warm and hospitable. We would certainly return, and if this is your first time you will not be disappointed.

We had a slight problem finding the property, but once we did we were very pleasantly surprised. The great views of the surrounding mountains particularly impressed us. The two properties are situated at either end of the garden and are nicely apart from each other being seperated by the lovely pool, so taking friends or grown up children is no problem. The owners - Aldo and Maria-Pia together with their son Matteo were excellent hosts and extremely friendly and helpful. They love it when you speak Italian to them and they inturn try their hand at English - Matteo being a good translater.
