Village house overview - owner's description

This charming early 18th century stone-built house is situated next to the church on the edge of the untouched beautiful, fortified medieval hilltop

The house has recently been lovingly restored to a very high standard and is tastefully furnished in the Tuscan style with exposed beams, terracotta tiles and stonework, but with every modern convenience.

The comfortable and stylish sitting room has double french doors which open out onto a well-maintained private garden which enjoys incredible views of the Appenine Alps, the backbone of Italy. There is an upper terrace with garden, furniture and barbecue, where many an al-fresco meal time can be pleasurably spent, sipping local wine and absorbing the magical atmosphere. The private heated swimming pool and terrace are perfectly situated for enjoying the beautiful views, and of course, sunbathing!

This is a very special property, from which you can enjoy the local amenities of the small town whilst still being secluded.

Bedroom 1 now has stunning French windows with views over the mountains and valley.

Bedroom 2 consists of bunk-beds rather than individual twin beds.

Village of Coreglia
There is plenty of free parking outside the village walls. Within the walls you can find coffee bars, ice-cream bar, Post Office, bank, grocer, hairdresser, butcher, chemist, hardware shop. Fresh bread can be purchased from the grocers or mini grocer next to PO, but be early otherwise it has sold out! There is a Pizzeria, and a local restaurant. All restaurant details are in the Villa folder.

From Bristol, United Kingdom Apr 2009

It really was the nicest villa we have yet stayed in. It is very well furnished - comfortable and rustic chic with everything you would need.

The views are really spectacular from every window front and back - especially the back. I was worried that it was north facing but the garden/ pool gets more or less continual sunshine. The pool is not overly warm but by no means cold. Sitting on the terrace for breakfast was a real treat.

The village is really very quiet and unbelieveably picturesque and the locals very friendly. It is right next to a bell tower but you just stop noticing it after the first few rings and then you miss it when you leave!

We stayed for a week and didnt get to explore the local area enough - the scenery is amazing, it felt like being in the Andes. But we did manage to go to Lucca - 40 mins down the mountain (very windy roads) and along the valley which was absolutely beautiful and highly recommended and Florence - 1 hr and 20 by train from Lucca very cheap E10 return each- which we only visited for a day and only took in a handful of the sights - it was beautiful but a bit of a shock with the traffic and hoards of tourists and mostly relaxed for the rest of the time.

The local agent - Nora - speaks excellent english and is very helpful. She cooked a four course meal for us one night and it was gorgeous. A cleaner came halfway through the week which was unexpected and a nice bonus.

The only thing is that it is perfect for a couple or for a family with 2 small children. If the weather is good then 4 adults could sleep relatively comfortably as you would be outdoors mostly but the second bedroom is quite small and has 2 bunkbeds, the kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you need but has only enough room for 1 person really. Other than that it is excellent value.

We enjoyed our stay in lovely mountainy Coreglia Antelminelli. The Casina was nicely presented and we had excellent service from the housekeeper etc.

The main drawback for us was that it was too small to move around the kids room with the cot and the house was full of baby hazards. This probably should be stated in the advert and mentioned before booking.

The Casina would be suited to a couple or to a small family with primary school aged children. With this in mind it would be great if they would leave some kids videos and board games etc. for kids to use in the evenings or rainy/cold days.

The house has a funny layout because of its antiquity so the kitchen is very small and poky but the barbeque was a great plus because the qulity of produce in the village shops was excellent.

The best thing about the Casina was the amazing and unforgettable views from the rear of the house and the pool/garden.

The house was comfortable and very well equipped. The pool was great and warm for our two young children. Good linen and plenty of towels. The website description mentioned "bells" but not that the house was right next to the church so one hears them loud and clear! The village in which the house is situated is right at the top of a hill with an exceptionally narrow road with multiple twists and turns. Personally, we found the village far too remote and isolated and it was a hugh effort to do any excursions. We were never once contacted by any agent/house-keeper. The only time we got to speak to the agent was when the downstairs bathroom was flooding and a pipe has rusted and burst in the pool. All in all a comfortable house but too remote for what we were after (which to be fair, was our own fault). I would only recommend the house if you were happy to stay put and not venture out much.

Coreglia is a medieval hill-top village which is obvious from the description on our web site. It is from here you receive the stunning views which all our guests comment on, and thoroughly enjoy. There are many beautiful walks in the area where you need not drive. The roads are fully made up and not tracks. It is only a 10 minute drive to the bottom of the mountain where you can find the main road. We also offer a Meet and Greet service if required. Karen did not choose this, but our agent is always on call if needed.
