Village house overview - owner's description

The self-catering accommodation comprises two floors of our refurbished stone house dating from around 1860. The house provides the ideal getaway for families and groups relaxing and exploring northern Tuscany. We have two en suite double bedrooms with the floor below containing open plan kitchen through to dining & combined small lounge area. The house is beautifully furnished throughout and retains many original features that include cotto floor tiles, chestnut beams, log burning stove and many sourced antique items.

The garden and plunge pool are for the private use of our guests and are not shared. We also have a pergola providing a shady space to eat, and a barbecue area. The local shepherd often grazes his sheep and goats close to the boundaries of the garden, a real taste of traditional Tuscan life.

The property is located in a mountainous region of Tuscany. During the high season, the village has parking restrictions. Parking is in a secure area some 50 meters from the house and should not pose any issues.
The owners live below the rental space and will be on call should you need any assistance.

Take in the wonderful views, there’s a relaxing patio area with pergola and plunge-pool where you can enjoy al fresco dining and a glass or two of the local vino.

We have done our best to retain the rustic charm of the property. We have been passionate about collecting antiques for years and have bought many of our possessions with us to Tuscany. We have enjoyed sourcing items from Portobello Road antique market in the UK and more locally in Lucca and Abruzzo antique markets.

I guess the property steers away from the standard rental in terms of décor. If you enjoy spending time in a holiday home with a twist we are sure you’ll love our house.

“Fantastic stay” Reviewed August 16, 2014 A very typical and nice house, very cosy and well renovated by the owners who are, by the way, very nice hosts, very attentive to their guests comfort and in the same time very discreet.?Youll find here the right place to rest (swimming pool plays its role, of course) and to visit the whole region. The area is as well on a small hill, so its colder at night, and consequently more comfortable than in the valley during Summer time. The house is located in a small village with a large proportion of visitors coming from all countries. You can also have an organic dinner at owners friends home with very typical Tuscany food.?Highly recommended!

“A real gem in the heart of the Tuscan countryside” Reviewed August 4, 2014 Review by Carrera-Leigh Dix - guest but not the booker.?I stayed at The Contented Tuscan for a fortnight with my husband and his parents and didnt want to leave!?With unrivaled views of the surrounding area, this hillside cottage is a real hidden gem. It was the perfect size for four guests, with two spacious and well decorated double bedrooms and immaculate en-suites. The outside area is private and cosy but with a real sense of space due to its position on the edge of the village.?We didnt have the best of weather throughout our stay, but the close proximity of Bagni di Lucca and bigger towns and cities meant that there was always something to do if things got a bit overcast. There was no shortage of places to eat and a BBQ in the garden for quieter nights in.?Denise and Steve were very accommodating and attentive, making our stay that bit special. The village itself is picturesque and the people very friendly.

“Bliss on a hill” Reviewed June 5, 2014 There is no denying that Tuscany is stunning, but combined with a beautiful rental property in a hill top village, with amazing views and you have all the ingredients for a perfect break....especially the small pool and terrace. We thought the property was akin to a boutique hotel and Steve and Denise were so helpful in making our stay truly memorable. After discovering Tuscany and this property, well be back!

“A Tuscan Treasure ..........” Reviewed July 9, 2014 Where to start! As a family travelling with a five month old baby, we have just experienced the most amazing holiday staying at The Contented Tuscan. We flew into Florence and after a journey through spectacular countryside arrived at the house to be met by our lovely hosts, Steve and Denise. The house and pool are absolutely beautiful. So much attention to detail has been paid to the furnishings and home comforts, we didnt want for anything! Steve and Denise have obviously put much thought into making this property feel like home from home for their guests. We hired cars for the duration so were able to travel with ease throughout the area including Florence, Pisa and the beach resort of Viareggio. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and really were the contented Tuscans for a week. We will definitely return. Thank you so much for making it such a memorable week staying in your beautiful home.

“The Tuscan Dream!” Reviewed September 17, 2014 What a real treasure! My husband and I along with our fiends have just returned from an amazing week at The Contented Tuscan. The property is located in the hills a few miles out of the small town of Bagni Di Lucca in the hamlet of Guzzanno. The owners Steve and Denise were wonderful hosts, they were very warm, welcoming and approachable. They greeted us with lovely welcome drinks. They live on the bottom floor of the large property, which is completely independent from the main house. You would never know they were there as they are very discrete although they are always on standby should you need anything. The house is absolutely stunning inside and out, spotlessly clean and beautifully and lovingly restored. It is tastefully decorated in a traditional Tuscan farmhouse style. It looks like it could feature in an interior magazine. The owners’ attention to detail did not go unnoticed, they have put a lot of thought and time into creating a very comfortable space where your every need is catered for. The bath robes and slippers in the bathrooms was a lovely touch. The property also has wifi/internet access. The terrace and pool area was very beautiful and relaxing with the perfect, picturesque views across the valley. The property is ideally located for a bit of sightseeing. During our stay we visited Florence, the beach resort of Viareggio and the nearby town of Lucca. If you don’t fancy the driving, definitely use Marco the taxi man. Denise and Steve recommend him and we were so very happy they did. A fantastic, kind man who went above and beyond, he was also like our very own tour guide. He brought us to fantastic restaurants in the hills where we got to try amazing traditional Tuscan food. A bit of a drive out of Bagni Di Lucca and we would never have found these great places ourselves if not for Marco (Buca Do Baldabo – so good we returned a second time, and Villa Aurora). We also ate at Del Sonno in Bagni Di Lucca, also very good. Marco also brought us to see The Devils Bridge by night, a must see! I could go on and on about out highlights, I definitely recommend this location, a real home from home. Thank you again Denise and Steve….oh and Marco (our taxi man friend).

“A perfect combination of relaxation, awesome natural beauty and Renaissance culture.” Reviewed August 10, 2014 NEW We had a very enjoyable stay at The Contented Tuscan at the end of July. The house is lovely - very tastefully and sensitively decorated - and the terrace and pool provide a perfect place for relaxing in the sun and enjoying the view across the valley. Steve and Denise are wonderful hosts, discrete yet helpful and very approachable. We stayed for two weeks, combining our visit with an overnight trip to Florence during the first week and another overnight trip to Siena the second - both cities are beautiful and within a comfortable driving distance. Even if you dont venture very far, the local area is extremely beautiful, with some very pretty hillside villages and breath-taking countryside. The lovely town of Lucca is also just a stones throw away. Thanks to Steve and Denise for helping to make our stay so good.

“Fantastic” Reviewed July 14, 2014 The situation of the property, the view, the attention to detail inside and out should impress even the most discerning traveller. We really had to drag ourselves away from the gorgeous terrace to visit Florence (by train) and Lucca (twice, we loved it so much). A real home from home experience made even better by our lovely and very discreet hosts who should be proud of what they have created. The fireflies after dark completed an experience that other holidays will have to live up to. Well done and thank you both very much.
