Property- we stayed in the 2-bedroom apt of a 3-storey old house it was peaceful & quiet, perched near a hill top. Woke up to birds chirping and lots of greenery in the area, great view of the Tuscan valley. The rooms were well maintained and clean, spacious lounge & kitchen. Location- excellent base to explore the surrounding small Tuscan towns you need a car for this, very easy to drive to The Mall, Space & all the other outlets. Can also catch a direct bus to Florence at the bottom of the hill. Driving up the hill slope takes some getting use to, but it was quite easy after the first two days. Host- Alberto was a friendly & helpful host. He provided all the maps of the area & did a nice breakfast for a small fee. His homemade jam is good! As he lived on the ground floor apt, he was always available if anything needed doing. This is an excellent place to stay at for exploring the Tuscan area. We were a group of 4 city ladies and we felt safe staying in La Pietra Grezza. Joanne N. • Singapore June 2012

Ida, Marco con Giacomo e Francesca May 2012

Dear Alberto, We very much enjoyed our stay at the La Pietra Grezza . We are glad you were able to accommodate us, despite the cold snap and ice. The Ancient Fireplace apartment was able to accomodate our family of 5. We loved the shutters able to block out the light until we felt like getting up, and not being concerned about the noise our children were making. The washing machine was much appreciated as was the large dining table , and uniform warmth in the apartment. Nancy and John, Of Moncton, NB, Canada And Lyon, France this year February, 13-19 2012

Try Albertos Fig Preserve!” Our stay with Alberto and Donatella at La Pietra Grezza was – in two words – perfectly perfect! We were familiar with much of Italy, having taught two years in Apulia three years prior, yet never made time to seriously explore the Tuscan region. So …. in Sept/Oct we returned, and thanks to the advice of our gracious hosts, the Pagani’s, along with selec ted road maps they provided, we discovered many of the glorious hidden gems the Tuscany area provides. Throw in frequent visits to numerous vineyards, antiquated villages, easy bus access to Florence, and the annual Greve Chianti Classico Festival ….well, PERFECTO!!! La Pietra Grezza is ideally located, quite and serene, a gentle walk into town for thin crusted pizza, fresh picked wild mushrooms and homemade sausage. Our apartment was sunny, more than comfortable, fully equipped, and with marvelous vistas from every room. We couldn’t recommend Le Pietra Grezza more highly. Oh, be sure to try some of Alberto’s fig preserves. Hopefully he’ll have some left. We went through two jars ourselves and wish we had brought some home. Review by Ponds of Gold from FL Aubin Dennis Lee- Seminole,Florida,Usa When Middle of August til End of September 06, six weeks Location La Pietra Grezza is located approximately 20km south-east of Florence and is near the top of a hill from the small village of Cellai. This is a beautiful quiet area surrounded by olive groves vineyards and forests. It has beautiful views of the Valdarno valley, you can see three castles off in the distance. Nearby Amenities The village of Cellai is about 1.5km down the hill. It has a small alimentari where you can purchase bus tickets to Florence (a 40 minute ride) and small grocery items. We would drive into Rignano sull Arno a small town about 10 minutes away to go to the larger COOP. There were many local fairs in the small towns near by on weekends. The House/Apartment La Pietra Grezza has three units. The owner lives on the lower level. On the other side are the two rentals. We were in the lower unit called the Ancient Fireplace. Above us was the Lilac Apartment. We had two bedrooms, bathroom, a modern kitchen, living room, and a dining room with an old large stone fireplace. The furniture was a contemporary/antique mix. All the rooms had framed prints or original oils, a nice Tuscany touch. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Garden We had our own 30+ 30 walled stone patio, with two lounge chairs and a covered eating area. A few feet from the kitchen to the outside table where we ate almost all of our meals, plus read/painted, and shared wine and star gazed. The owner, Alberto, had three large clay containers of hydrangeas and numerous smaller pots with geraniums around the patio. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas The apartment was clean. We had two bedrooms, with a queen bed in one and two twins put together in the other. The furniture was family antiques that had belonged to the landlords grandparents. The beds were fine. There was enough lighting for reading. We also had a sitting room, with a TV also a TV in one of the bedrooms. They only had Italian TV. Bedrooms/Bathrooms The bathroom was large enough with a shower that always had hot water. There were lots of towels. Kitchen We had a fully functional kitchen with everything we needed to cook our meals. Which we did most of the time. We had a dining room with a dining table with six chairs. Also a small table with two chairs in both the living room and kitchen. The dining room had a wonderful old fireplace that worked but we didnt use it because it was two warm while we were there. Problems or Bonuses The two big bonuses were (1) the patio, was a beautiful extension of our apartment. We had no stairs to climb and a close parking space. The second bonus was Alberto, the owner. He was our unofficial guide and translator. He would go over maps with us, make suggestions about places to go and things to see. He went out of his way to help us make phone calls and made our stay a pleasant experience. He picked us up from the train station in Figline and waited while we got groceries before taking us to La Pietra Grezza on our first night. He also drove us to the train stain when we left. Agency and Representatives (and price) We found this apartment on the web and book though the owner. There is another apartment upstairs and the owner lived below us. Just across the driveway was another old caste with 3 short term rentals. Most of the people staying at the five apartment while we were there spoke English as did the landlord. So it was nice. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We really loved our time spent at La Pietra Grezza and would love to come back someday we would recommend it to anyone. Things to do in this area This was a wonderful part of Italy to visit. It was very centrally located. About a 40 minute bus or train ride to Florance. In the center of vine country. A beautiful view everywhere you look. We rented a small old car from our landlord. It got us where we needed to be. We did day trips to Siena, Lucca, Greve and many more wonderful small Italian towns. My husband is an artist and spent most of his time on our beautiful patio painting, while I spent a lot on time visiting Florence. We didnt have any favorite restaurants as I cooked most of our meals although we ate at many wonderful places in the area. There are some wonderful pictures of La Pietra Grezza on their website.

Review by Judith from Costa Rica When August to November 2007, 3 months Review Pietra Grezza is in a magical setting surrounded by forest, rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards. From its beautiful location high above the Arno Valley, you can see sweeping vistas of the surrounding countryside. Small villages and larger towns are situated throughout the area so restaurants and stores, banks etc are within easy reach by car. Access to the Autostrada is nearby, bus and trains are close so we found that it was very easy to travel everywhere. We realized taking the train to Florence was much easier than driving through the traffic and hunting for parking. It is only approximately a 30 minute trip through beautiful countryside to the main terminal of Santa Maria Novella. The accommodation at Pietra Grezza was charming. We had lovely views over the valley through large open windows which brought cooling breezes through the apartment day and night. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and dishes, all linens and towels were provided. A wonderful historic open fireplace could even be used as a Tuscan grill. We had many wonderful meals on the terrace and spent lazy afternoons reading on lounges surrounded by huge pots of rose-colored hydrangeas. Alberto, owner of Pietra Grezza, was very accommodating and helpful, doing everything possible to make our stay the best possible. His homemade jams are delicious! He keeps the gardens around the villa full of blooming roses, lavender, herbs and fruit trees. We had a wonderful time and certainly plan to return as soon as we are able. I highly recommend this property.

• By: Helen Quinn The apartment was clean and pleasant and comfortable, everything worked as it should. The location is remote from the city bustle and beautiful, but its easy enough to get to Florence in half an hour if you avoid the rush hour traffic. The area around offers multiple touring options if you have a car. Alberto is a helpful and welcoming host. We greatly enjoyed our stay. Melbourne,Australia 30 10 2010 -6 11 2010

Andrew Williams Mature couple United Kingdom, May 2008 Absolutely amazing, inspirational views, every about this place is perfect. Highly recommend.

If you want to stay in the country but close to Florence - this is a wonderful place to base your explorations. Up on a hill, above a small village near Rignano - you will find a welcoming host - Alberto - who will provide you with local information in addition to a large comfortable apartment. The apartment Ancient Fireplace is part of what was a hunting lodge, set behind a large house, but dont be fooled. The apartment has been renovated - not in the IKEA style - but in comfortable appropriate furnishings. The terrace (located at the door) is very pleasant place to have your meals and enjoy the view. We loved our week here and wished we could have stayed longer. 72cindy -Ontario, Canada-ottobre 2009

I had the pleasure of staying at the apartment beside Albertos house. Our friends rented one of Albertos apartments, Ancient Fireplace, while they were visiting us so we spent most of our time at his place because it was so much nicer than ours! Not only does it have a fabulous view, the apartment is well equipped with all the modern conveniences you need. The bathrooms and bedrooms are well equipped and comfortable. Alberto is a fabulous host and goes above and beyond to help his guests. I would not hesitate to recommend you stay at Albertos. He accepts people for short and long term stays. Even though we werent staying at Albertos he helped us more in every things. Dont hesitate to go. Kathryne Williams - Canada

For the past seven months Ive been renting the middle apartment, "Antico Camino." Ive only praise for it, and also for Alberto, the owner, who lives in the ground floor apartment of the converted three-storey, 18th C. hunting lodge some 21 km SE of central Florence. Alberto manages to be both extremely helpful and caring of his guests and property, without ever being invasive and nosey. He knows the region well, justifiably loves his home and the Tuscan countryside, and tirelessly keeps the spacious and beautiful grounds in trim. In comparison to the other property for rent on this isolated hilltop, namely, the medieval "castello" across the yard from the hunting lodge, Alberto offers something truly individual and memorable. He and his wife, Donatella, are sincere, very kind people. With a satellite ADSL internet connection in the apartment (and the house as a whole), Ive been able to restrict my journeys to Florence, where Ive been officially based for research. As and when I have gone in, the local bus service has been faultless (there is a regular service throughout the day, ending at 9 pm with the last bus home from Florence, and the journey takes about 40 mins., depending on traffic). Walking down the hill to reach the bus stop, and then back up the hill when returning from Florence, is not for everyone, as the hill is very steep and long (some 1.3 km) but its a beautiful walk! (Of course, if you rent a car, which I did when my wife and young son joined me, this walk is no longer a necessity.) Indeed, the house is not for everyone if you want the luxuries of city living, Albertos apartments are probably not for you. What Alberto offers in "Antico Camino" is unpretentious, unadorned rural living with stunning (truly stunning) views, combined with only certain modern conveniences (ADSL, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge-freezer, cooker and oven, TV, shower, and central heating). More than enough for me and my family. I am extremely sad to be leaving and I can only hope to return, even if only as a short-term holidaymaker. Simon Excellent Simon, Salmiya,Kuwait

• By: Rena O We stayed at La Pietra Grezza during the summer of 2010 for three months. We were very lucky to find this authentic Tuscan house situated on a remote hilltop amidst stunning scenery, but within easy reach of Florence and Arezzo. Alberto, the landlord, is a warm, caring person and seemed to be always there in case we needed him. He renovated this three-storey, 18th century hunting lodge himself and takes great pride in it. And so he ought! It is beautiful inside and out, comfortable and peaceful. The spacious grounds are also beautiful, and thanks to Alberto and his wife, Donatellas, green fingers there is always something blooming. We enjoyed every day there and my 3-year-old son now keeps on asking when well go back home to Italia! This is somewhat surprising, given that he didnt play with a single child throughout those 3 months! We genuinely felt like we we part of the place, something made possible by Albertos unobtrusive care and help. We have made a home and family in Italia and we will be going back as soon as possible! Our friends rented one of Alberto's apartments while they were visiting us so we spent most of our time at his place because it was so much nicer than ours! Not only does it have a fabulous view, the apartment is well equipped with all the modern conveniences you need. The bathrooms and bedrooms are well equipped and comfortable. Alberto is a fabulous host and goes above and beyond to help his guests. I would not hesitate to recommend you stay at Alberto's. He accepts people for short and long term stays. Even though we weren't staying at Alberto's he helped us more than our landlady. Don't hesitate to go.'

Andrew W. Mature couple United Kingdom, May 2008 Absolutely amazing, inspirational views, every about this place is perfect. Highly recommend.

“Hospitable, relaxed atmosphere” If you want to stay in the country but close to Florence - this is a wonderful place to base your explorations.

Recommended. Review by Judith from Costa Rica 2bed/1bath apartment near Cellai, Tuscany Chianti ________________________________________WhenAugust to November 2007, 3 months ReviewPietra Grezza is in a magical setting surrounded by forest, rolling hills, olive groves and vineyards. We had many wonderful meals on the terrace and spent lazy afternoons reading on lounges surrounded by huge pots of rose-colored hydrangeas.Alberto, owner of Pietra Grezza, was very accommodating and helpful, doing everything possible to make our stay the best possible. His homemade jams are delicious! He keeps the gardens around the villa full of blooming roses, lavender, herbs and fruit trees. We had a wonderful time and certainly plan to return as soon as we are able. I highly recommend this property.

Review 1: La Pietra Grezza, Ancient FireplaceRecommended. Review by Ponds of Gold from FL 2bed/1bath apartment near Cellai, Tuscany Chianti ________________________________________WhenMiddle of August till End of September 06, six weeks LocationLa Pietra Grezza is located approximately 20km south-east of Florence and is near the top of a hill from the small village of Cellai. This is a beautiful quiet area surrounded by olive groves vineyards and forests. It has beautiful views of the Valdarno valley, you can see three castles off in the distance.Nearby AmenitiesThe village of Cellai is about 1.5km down the hill. It has a small alimentary where you can purchase bus tickets to Florence (a 40 minute ride) and small grocery items. We would drive into Rignano sull’ Arno a small town about 10 minutes away to go to the larger COOP. There were many local fairs in the small towns near by on weekends. The House/ApartmentLa Pietra Grezza has three units. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.GardenWe had our own 30'+ 30' walled stone patio, with two lounge chairs and a covered eating area. A few feet from the kitchen to the outside table where we ate almost all of our meals, plus read/painted, and shared wine and star gazed. The owner, Alberto, had three large clay containers of hydrangeas and numerous smaller pots with geraniums around the patio.Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was clean. We had two bedrooms, with a queen bed in one and two twins put together in the other. The furniture was family antique's that had belonged to the landlords grandparents. The beds were fine. There was enough lighting for reading. We also had a sitting room, with a TV also a TV in one of the bedrooms. They only had Italian TV.Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bathroom was large enough with a shower that always had hot water. There were lots of towels.KitchenWe had a fully functional kitchen with everything we needed to cook our meals. Which we did most of the time. We had a dining room with a dining table with six chairs. Also a small table with two chairs in both the living room and kitchen. The dining room had a wonderful old fireplace that worked but we didn't use it because it was two warm while we were there.Problems or BonusesThe two big bonuses were Ƒ) the patio, was a beautiful extension of our apartment. He also drove us to the train stain when we left.Agency and Representatives (and price)We found this apartment on the web and book though the owner. There is another apartment upstairs and the owner lived below us. Just across the driveway was another old caste with 3 short term rentals. Most of the people staying at the five apartment while we were there spoke English as did the landlord. So it was nice.Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We really loved our time spent at La Pietra Grezza and would love to come back someday we would recommend it to anyone.Things to do in this areaThis was a wonderful part of Italy to visit. It was very centrally located. About a 40 minute bus or train ride to Florence. In the centre of vine country. A beautiful view everywhere you look.We rented a small old car from our landlord. It got us where we needed to be. We did day trips to Siena, Lucca, Greve and many more wonderful small Italian towns. My husband is an artist and spent most of his time on our beautiful patio painting, while I spent a lot on time visiting Florence. We didn't have any favourite restaurants as I cooked most of our meals although we ate at many wonderful places in the area. There are some wonderful pictures of La Pietra Grezza on their website.

My name is Alberto, I am 70 years old and I manage The Raw Stone Holidays home with my wife Donatella from 14 years. We lives in the ground floor apartment of the converted three-storey, 18th C. hunting lodge. I manage to be both extremely helpful and caring of my guests and property, without ever being invasive and nosey. I knows the region well, justifiably love my home and the Tuscan countryside, and tirelessly keep the spacious and beautiful grounds in trim.
