Podere Albereto - Giaggiolo apartment

Overview

This lovely and cosy apartment on the top floor of a converted barn house is an ideal getaway for a couple looking for peace and tranquillity in a beautiful setting of rolling hills and olive groves. The GIAGGIOLO apartment is 45 sqm on the first and top floor of a converted barn on Podere Albereto, a farm estate, dating back to the 18th century. There is a private, external staircase to the front door of the apartment which opens into the spacious living room with a sofa bed which can sleep two, a fully fitted kitchen and a characteristic bedroom with a king-size bed, characteristic wooden beams and brick-latice windows looking out over the Chianti landscape. The bathroom has a shower, wash basin, w.c. and bidet. The apartment also has modern facilities like Tv and Wifi internet connection.
Podere Albereto is an ideal location for a relaxing holiday enjoying the beautiful surrounding under the shade of the pergola, sunbathing on the terrace, taking a swim in the pool or enjoying a home-cooked barbeque accompanied by the Chianti wine given on arrival compliments of the owners.
The communal facilities of the property are only shared with one other apartment (max 5 people) , so there is plenty of space and privacy for all. The property is located just 13 km from Florence in the heart of the Tuscan countryside with breathtaking views of the Florentine hills. The estate of 10 hectares of olive trees, fields and woodland is only 2 km from the village of San Polo in Chianti at 350 m above sea level. Even in the height of summer there is a cool breeze in the evening so air-conditioning isnt necessary.
In San Polo you can find 2 restaurants, two small supermarkets, post office and a bank.
The owners of the property, Fabio and Trinidad, live in the main farm building and are always happy to provide information and assistance about things to do and see in the area and further afield. Olive oil is produced and sold on the estate and you will also be able to admire and purchase the beautifully hand-crafted vases, pottery and paintings created by Trinidad in her workshop at Podere Albereto.
The area around San Polo is famous for its Chianti Gallo Nero red wine, olive oil and the cultivation of a special kind of sword lily or "Iris", known locally as " Giaggiolo", used in the perfume and cosmetic industries, and which gives a lovely lilac/purple hew to the hills in Spring. Tuscany offers an infinte number of historic and cultural attractions. Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance, must be visited for its monuments, cathedral, world famous museums and the Uffizzi gallery. You can get to Florence in under 30 minutes by car from Podere Albereto. Siena, home to the Palio horse-race, is only 30 km away and the local Chianti area abounds with magnificent churches, turreted castles and ancient hamlets. It is also easy to take day trips to Arezzo, San Giminiano, Lucca, Pisa and why not visit the Tyrrhenian coast with its beautiful unspoilt beaches. It goes without saying that one of the main attractions in this region is the food and we can recommend some excellent restaurants in the vicinity where you can try the local delicacies.

Giaggiolo apartment is the upper floor of this property. It is a spacious apartment for two, which is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The villa, and farmhouse of the owner, are well secluded in the hills above San Polo up a long shared driveway with beautiful views across the valley. It is also only a short drive to Florence, while Pisa, Lucca, Siena and Arezzo are a comfortable drive away. There are many reasonable eating places in the villages and towns nearby if you dont want to cook every day. The welcome given to us by Fabio, (who speaks very good English), and Trinidad was superb. A welcoming bottle of Chianti was a nice touch. We went in October, so there was a chill in the air, especially at night, but Fabio ensured that the heating was on in the property so that our stay would be comfortable at no extra cost. If we needed to know anything or had any requests, Fabio was always there to oblige. We had a superb stay in the apartment and would highly recommend it.
