Village house overview - owner's description

We love this house because of its fantastic terrace with great views over the river and the valley including some old watermills. And after carefully renovating the house in 2010 we now have a perfect integration of modern amenities in a historic setting and a balance between comfort and simplicity. Facing outwards from the city center there is no traffic noise –only the river and the birds.
The house (as the village) is build on a steeply sloping cliff - so be prepared for many stairs and steps (not suitable for people with mobility problems).
You enter the house at street level which is also where you find a large newly renovated (2015) bathroom with shower, toilet and floor heating and a dekorative winepress (Cantina). One flight of stairs brings you to the large living room with vaulted ceilings and white walls found throughout the property and original historic tiles on the floor.
A few steps more and you arrive at the residential section with three bedrooms (new double beds) – The third unique ‘parents' bedroom’ with a window directly on the river. On this level is also an additional combined small shower and WC
A final flight of stairs brings you to the kitchen and a fourth small single person bedroom. The kitchen is renovated with gas stove, oven, dishwasher and fridge. It is fully equipped with good quality kitchenware. 6-7 people easily dine in the kitchen.
From the kitchen there is direct access to the east and south facing terrace with flowers and sun exposure until late afternoon . A triangular sail can bring shadow when needed and in season pots with aromatic herbs will add flavor to your meals. Tenants are kindly asked to water the pots daily to the benefit of all.
The main square in the village is a 5 minutes walk up and in July and August often animated with local choirs, music bands and party events most weekends with delicious meals served at long tables. Attractive food shops, including several butchers, three bars, an ironmonger and a cheap family style restaurant, and an ice cream bar attracts crowds. Still relatively few tourists, but many locals that are proud of their village –cultural events organized all summer. Refreshing swimming in river water 400 m2 pool 2 minutes walk away from the house . Strolling around the village brings new discoveries and magic of 1000 years of history.

The village is also the point of departure for several hiking trails to San Giovanni (1h 15), Monte Merlo (2h), Badalucco (6 hours -and take bus back)) and 40 minutes by car to Monte Ceppo (1627m) overlooking the whole area. In neighbouring villages you will find a number of interesting restaurants with local produce and regional dishes. Excursions could include the famous Saturday morning market in Sanremo, Or an afternoon at Bussana Vecchia with art and music, Caves and of course Nice at 1h 10 drive
During winter world class skiing at Limone 2h drive from Ceriana.

We have just had an amazing week at this extraordinary upside down house in Ceriana with a super kitchen and roof terrace on the top floor. It was so lovely to sit on the terrace with the first coffee of the morning and watch the sun rise over the brow of the opposite hill lighting up the valley. The whole village, perched on the side of the valley, in fact, is extraordinary, and to be able to spend time there exploring the architecture, windy lanes and staircases of this Medieval gem has been fantastic. The river pool is a lovely relaxing way to spend a morning and we also enjoyed the circular walk up through the olive groves and back down the track feasting on overhanging blackberries and figs along the way. We had a delicious evening meal one night at the restaurant just below the main town square (Da Mario) although we often went to the beach at Santo Stefano al Mare after siesta when it was a little cooler! The highlight of our stay has to have been the Sausage Festival celebrating Ceriana's delicious sausages. All in all a fantastic family holiday full of amazing experiences making awesome memories. Thank you!

The Sagra della salsiccia cerianesca (20+21/8)was an incredible party - the whole city was out on the street - and we were dancing on the town square two evenings in a row

I has been fantastic to live in your house in 7 days. We had everything we needed, we enjoyed the incredible view from the terace and did a lot of sun bathing. We enjoyed the cosy villaga and the friendly butcher - nice ice creams too.[...] Ceriana looks like a fairy tale town
