Cottage overview - owner's description

A Charming detached cottage set in a small medieval village of just three cottages, surrounded by wooded hills & olives groves. A fantastic Pool with stunning views

"A perfect family holiday" The property can trace its history back to the 16th century.. Over the years, the properties became abandoned and it was 10 years ago that "Il Borgo" was given a new lease of life retaining as much old charm as possible whilst providing three great vacation homes perfect for your family vacation in Tuscany. The property is cared for and enjoyed by many family and friends wanting a great time here.

The charming Cottage "Cande" offers great value and is Ideal for 2-4 guests. There are two bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen/diner, bathroom and private terraces all set in a lovely olive grove with some stunning views. The large crystal swimming pool which has been idyllically positioned for the splendid views is the perfect place to cool down on a warm summers day - or, perhaps to sip some great local wine and enjoy the remarkable sunsets. The decor is traditional Tuscan which together with simple comfortable furnishings provides a truly Tuscan experience.

Free Wifi and welcome fruit

If you have watched Jamie Oliver's Italian cooking using an outside oven, you might like to try it here! - There is an ancient stone oven for pizza or barbeque along with a BBQ "pit" for the perfect Tuscan feast. Everywhere you go in Tuscany, you will find great - and inexpensive - wines to enjoy. You might even like to have a tour of some of the famous vineyards of Tuscany.

The cottage is just perfect for both spring and summer. Although the houses have central heating, each has a large open fireplace welcoming early and late season visitors. The cottages can be rented individually or for a larger group of say, 10 + guests when a large communal sitting room is also available to make a great family or group holiday.

Castiglion Fiorentino is about 7kms. which is midway between the historic towns of Arezzo and Cortona. Lake Trasimeno with its pretty beaches is within easy driving distance.

From here you can relax, unwind and enjoy the lovely scenery - or, there are day excursions to Cortona, Arezzo, Montepulcinao, Pienza, Assisi and more. Wine is a famous Tuscan export and you can use some of your time here to explore the many vineyards or go on a wine tour (In English, Danish, German, French) and enjoy some of the superior wines Tuscany has to offer. Other activities in the area are cooking classes, truffle hunting and numerous festivals throughout the year.

The road to the cottage is a white road, and takes about 7-10 mins from the main road

. We found this wonderful little house by chance while on a touring holiday in September. The owners were very helpful in accommodating us for a last minute booking & prepared the house in a matter of hours ready for arrival - even staying up until after 11pm to greet us at the property. It turned out to be a wonderful find, nestled among olive groves on a hillside not far from Castiglion Fiorentino & with great views across the valley from the private pool. This was the first time we had stayed in this part of Tuscany & although it was an all too brief stay of only 5 days we had plenty to keep us occupied. Blessed with beautiful weather while we were there it was very tempting to spend all our time relaxing by the pool. But we had come here to explore & so tore ourselves away to visit some of the charming nearby villages with their historic buildings & cobbled streets not to mention great places to buy the local produce, cheeses & meats. A sort of foodies heaven it turned out be. The property is situated along a private road & about 2Km from a local shop, bar, & what turned out to be a wonderful local Pizza restaurant offering excellent food & good value for money. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here & were very sorry to have to leave after our all too brief encounter.

Our first vacation to Italy. Having read Under the Tuscan Sun long ago - we have always planned to visit this region. Having spent some time in Cortona, we wanted have time to relax and enjoy the Tuscan scenery - and a pool! We rented two of cottages here , They were comfortable and clean and had the added benefit of two patios - one for the morning sun and one for the afternoon and evenings when we are outside enjoying the sunsets. The cottages are set in real country setting, olives and other vegetation are in abundance and the views are really wonderful. The highlight though was the pool which, for the most part we had to ourselves and this, plus incredibly warm weather made it a great combination! A car is necessary and, the road is a little long for the first time, but we soon got used to it.

We really enjoyed our short stay here. The friendliness and kindness started well before we arrived, lots of information and helping us feel relaxed about our first trip to Europe. The renovated village has been restored very well while still maintaining the old world charm of a rustic farmhouse. Inside the village there are three units. I think there are two two-bedroom units, and three-bedroom unit. The owners are very friendly and the basket of bread, olive oil and wine were a nice touch. There is a private terrace area for each unit and the pool is, of course, shared. The time of year we travelled didn't allow us to use the pool but it looked very inviting! The olive groves and garden areas around the village make a very tranquil setting. The furniture was in good shape and comfortable. Very clean with enough pots, pans and dishes for us to live here comfortably for the week, The main bedroom was good size with a double bed and the smaller single bedroom was perfect. Bathroom was small but again more than adequate for our needs. The kitchen area is fine for 3 people. There is a stove, refrigerator, sink, coffee maker toaster etc. All the basics you need are there - The larger cottage has a much larger kitchen and dining area. We were invited by our "neighbours” for a glass of wine and to take a look around. Of course, the general location provided some marvellous views of the distant town and the surrounding countryside. A very tranquil setting.

A really nice time here. Our family (from Holland) met some other families and found the atmosphere very enjoyable. The views are very beutuful and the surrounding area full of countryside. Besides enjoying our time by the pool and in the lovely cottage, we made a point of exploring the many towns around us. Cortona, Pienza, Siena, a day trip to Florence by Train and much more. The golf course in Foina is small (9 holes), but a good afternoon to relax . The little (friendly) shop at the base of the hill has many things - including fresh bread and a good line of cheese, meats and some local wines. The larger supermarkets in the town of castiglion was perfect for our big shopping. A very happy holiday and a place to come back to.

Tuscany is a favourite place for us. This was our fourth visit to the area and our first to the val Di Chio - a hidden picturesque valley with amazing views. The cottage (Luna) had all the essentials for our 2 week stay, the beds were comfortable and the simple furnishings ideal for family vacations. Clean bathroom and kitchen with all the things you expect. Outside is where it all happens. The views are incredible and sitting by the large pool, occasionally looking out to the valley below and to the distant hill towns was a delight. A chance to relax and enjoy our time as a family. Many walks, and exploration for the children. Many things around the area, during our weeks, the Palio in castiglion was held. 6 horses and jockeys racing for the pride of thei town "gate" was fantastic along with the medieval parades, flag throwing and displays. the towns of arezzo and Cortona offering many experiences (and shopping), Montepulciano and Pienza were also memorable days out. The added feel good factor of helpful owners giving their inside knowledge of where to go, what to see etc gave us a head start when planning our days out.

This was our third visit to Il Borgo which we think of as our home in Tuscany. It was nice too to find a few improvements around the property - wi-fi, thermal pool shower, new gazebo with better views of the valley and additional landscaping. The place is rustic but has all we need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The rooms are pretty and the outside BBQ and pizza ovens are a great find. The pool is lovely and the perfect place to sip some local wine and watch the sunset. After the sunset, we were entertained by hundreds of fireflies - magic lanterns - which apparently are around for only two or three weeks The hosts are marvelous and spend enough time to sort out our plans for the two weeks and up date us on the local festivals - The Palio was on during our stay here. This is the smaller version of the famous Palio of Siena, only here you get to "see" the race, the parades and the celebrations in the lovely town of Castiglion Fiorentino. Our cottage is La Luna, slightly larger than the others (although our first visit we had Il Sole which was very cosy and perfect for the three of us). It has a lovely terrace with amazing views of the valley and a view of the pool through the olive trees. The road remains a little bumpy in parts, but it does not take much to get used to it and, when you arrive, the views are really breathtaking. We speak about this place to all our friends and family - and recommend it. We shall be back for our 4th visit next year
