Cottage overview - owner's description

Kate's is a traditional Irish cottage refurbished to a high standard. Set in open countryside only 3 miles from Lismore Town. Large private garden with stream & mountain views. Excellent touring base.

Kate’s is our wonderful home in Ireland which we are keen to share with people who expect the highest standards in a house that is situated in a most relaxing and beautiful location.
Over recent times, Kates has been extended and refurbished to provide a very comfortable and relaxing home. The kitchen, dining and sitting rooms form the original 150 year old cottage. Beautiful oak furniture and Lloyd Loom seating with beamed ceilings and wooden flooring.

The kitchen has every convenience - dishwasher, full height fridge freezer, washing machine & tumble dryer, electric hob, microwave, toaster, Le Creuset cookware and all the cutlery, plates & glassware for 4 guests and so much more.

The recently built architect designed Garden Room has wide french windows looking down the garden and offers spectacular mountain views. Furnished to a high standard with comfortable leather chairs & oak side tables. The television gives both local and UK channels. There is a CD and DVD player together with a good assortment of films available. There is fitted a log burning stove and a start up pack is provided. The room opens out onto a large paved area with a new Neptune range of garden table & comfortable cushioned chairs - perfect for alfresco dining.

A recent bathroom refurbishment provides full length bath with power shower and quality fittings. A Neptune vanity unit fitted with a marble top and above an illuminated wall cabinet provide ample storage space. All bedlinen, towels and bathrobes are provided for our guests.

Free WY-FY connection is provided.

The main bedroom has a king size bed with double wardrobe and dressing table. The second bedroom has twin beds with a double wardrobe.

Set in a large private garden (third of an acre) with a delightful stream which attracts plenty of wildlife. The whole property is surrounded by fields and offers wonderful views of the Knockmealdown mountains. A guest shed houses a selection of garden games incl. croquet and boules. Private parking for 2 cars on the gravel front area.

The Locality:
Kate’s is situated only 3 miles from the historic town of Lismore, the Irish home of the Dukes of Devonshire. The delightful Lismore Castle Gardens are open for viewing in the summer. Literary and music festivals are held in the town throughout the year. There are a variety of places to eat and drink from traditional Irish pubs, such as Foleys on the Mall and Eamonns Bar with its delightful walled garden. The Summerhouse Café offers own daily baked cakes and light meals. For special occasions, nearby Ballyvolane and Richmond House provide elegant dining in a country house setting. The award winning Tannery Restaurant in Dungarvan and Aherne’s Seafood Bar/Restaurant in Youghal offer great local dishes. Try the seafood chowder – delicious!

For garden lovers, Kate's Cottage is at the centre of the Waterford Garden Trail - so many gardens open in the area including Mount Congreve, Tourin House, Cappoquin and the famous Lismore Castle gardens. Many of these are at their best in the spring when the Camillas and rhododendrums are in full bloom.

Salmon and trout fishing are available on the Blackwater River only 10 minutes away.
Lismore Golf Club is a delightful 9 hole course. Nearby Fermoy and Dungarvan offer challenging 18 holes.

There are several signed walks in and around Lismore. Horse riding is available 20 minutes from the cottage.

Long golden sandy beaches at the historic town of Youghal are only 20 minutes away along the scenic Blackwater Valley Drive from the cottage. For serious shoppers, Cork City is only one hour away – a visit to the famous English Market is a must! Ballymaloe Cookery School and Gardens are 40 minutes away with the Shanagarry Pottery close by making this a delightful trip. An excellent base for touring southern Ireland.

Kate's Cottage provides a relaxing place to stay in the Waterford / Cork area. The garden room is spacious and comfortable. Fantastic power shower. We were slightly disappointed with the cleanliness of some of the rooms.
Lismore is a lovely, quiet town with some good places to eat. Make sure you visit Lismore Castle Gardens.

Kates Cottage was a wonderful, peaceful place to come back to each night after exploring all day! It was very well organized, with everything you could possibly need. We had a couple of questions before arriving and the owners were very accommodating and got right back to us! Kates Cottage was one of the high points of our 3 week stay in Ireland.

The cottage was good equipped and had more as enough space for a family of 4. The location is secluded and quiet and it gives a nice view of the landscape. Large and quiet garden and terrace, large, light and friendly garden-room. A perfect place for relaxing and a good starting point for different activities in the surroundings. Perfect holidays, thank you very much!
